5. Chapter 4:Hunger

The inky blackness of the sky was startling. In a small room a cluster of zombies shuffled about. They had been stuck in there since the beginning. Going hungry they ate the remains of another zombie. It had died of starvation and the others quickly learned it staved off the hunger. Tasted disgusting though. Their stomachs started acting strange. Rumbling and continuous amounts of black bile dribbled down their chins. Sometimes their stomachs exploded. This was happening right now. The insides burst out. Gore stained walls and ceiling. His intestines slid to the floor. A dark shape crawled out of the hole then scuttled across the floor. The zombies sniffed the mess left behind then suddenly rose backs straight. Smelling the air they faced the door. It was metal with many small dents from when the zombies had battered against it. Now open they saw the darkness outside illuminated by a electronic torch. This was held by a man in a white lab coat. He quickly ran as if knowing this would happen. The zombies hobbled out the door except for the zombie whose stomach had exploded. He was stuffing his guts back inside oblivious to the goings on outside. The rest saw with what little vision they had left a large cluster of small makeshift houses and high walls surrounding the place. A large building was in the distance. The strange man was opening the back door of a house. Walking through he left open the door. The zombies gazed hungrily at the opening then ambled towards it.

Meanwhile inside a man woke up. He was shivering despite heavily sweating from a dream. Realising the door was open he got up, pulled his pants and boots on then felt under his bed for the axe he kept in case of a emergency. People always broke into other houses for food. It was a big problem and if the thief was caught he was zombie bait. In the next room someone had broken in for food. However instead of someone it was a group of zombies and the food was him! Without losing his nerve he called to his wife to wake up then swung his axe. A shower of blood, brains and other gore mixed together on the floor. The shout had attracted attention. A zombie dived for his leg but missed and hit the ground hard. Unfazed it grabbed his boot. Chomping down on tough leather is hard however and when your teeth are in the final stages of decomposition they are very brittle. As a result it's teeth shattered. The axe thudded in it's head. A third zombie attacked. Knocking it down with the handle he faced the remaining 2. Combined they were too strong and quickly pulled him into a corner. His wife grabbed his hand. He spoke 3 words. "I love you". Then the zombies brought him down to the floor.

The zombie that the man knocked away with the handle pounced on the wife. Poised to bite it stopped. Then in a raspy guttaral voice exclaimed "Must not feed!" It reapeated this before a glass smashed against it's head. All civilised thoughts were gone replaced by hunger. Hunger that hurt, hunger that must be fed. The previous prey was gone but a fresh kill lay in the corner. It crawled over then tore at the body. Lifting out chunks of flesh it began to feed greedily. Blood gushed in rivers and long ropey intestines adorned the floor. Nothing was wasted and in the young hours of dawn some tattered clothes and a solitary boot were found.
