Half Hearted

Mia is still living in the past. She fell in love with the perfect guy and she knew he was the one. Until she found he'd been cheating on her with Victoria Paxon, the local slut on the corner of my street. Now that Brenden broke her heart and took half of it with him, Mia's not sure if she will ever fall in love again. But one day a new boy moves in across the street. His name is Adam Madison, and he quickly falls for his new neighbor. But he knows that her past had scarred her, he just wasn't sure what happened. Adam will have to find a crack in her wall she's built to see what's inside, but he might not be too satisfied with what he finds. Half of a heart doesn't love as a whole heart does.

2. The Window

Adam's POV~

I walked into the big house that was now mine and set down the boxes I had in my arms. I sighed and ran my hand through my hair.

"Honey! Open the door!" my mother called. I turned around to see her standing with boxes in her arms piled up over her head. I opened the door and took the boxes from her.

"Mom you know I could have gotten those."

"Yeah, I know. I just want to help as much as I can. I need to go in a few minutes. Are you sure you can handle all of them?"

I laughed and pulled her into my arms. "Don't worry about it mom. If I can't, I'm sure I can ask around the neighborhood."

She sighed. "Are you okay with this?"

   "Mom I told you-"

"No, I don't mean with the boxes . . . I mean with the divorce."

I pulled away from her hug and looked into her hurt eyes. My dad had abused her. When I found out about it I insisted she divorce him. "Don't worry about me. I'm worried about you. Are you okay with it?"

She looked down at the ground. "I don't know . . . I guess I just miss us being a family, you know? It wasn't just us."

"It's okay mom, we don't need him anymore. You'll always have me."

Mia's POV~

That was a month ago and I still haven't moved on. I sat in my room looking at Brenden's Facebook. His profile picture is him and Victoria kissing with club lights surrounding them. God, she's such a slut. I sighed and set down my laptop.

I slowly got up and looked out the window. Across the street there was a new family moving in. Just then walked out an extremely muscular guy with is shirt off. His cargo shorts were set low on his hips, showing his plad boxers. He walked over to the back of the moving van, and hopped up to the back. When he came back out, he had 5 boxes, stacked on top of each other. He just hopped off the back and carried them to the door like they were nothing. I think I'm going to like this Neighbor Boy.

I quickly ran downstairs and grabbed the popcorn in the microwave.

"Hey! That's mine!" my annoying brother, Kevin, yelled.

"I don't care!" I shouted, running up the stairs again. Kevin followed, but when I got to my door, I slammed it shut and locked it. Then there was a thump on my door.

   "OW!" he yelled. "MOM!"

I pulled out the chair from my desk and sat in it by my window. I opened the bag of popcorn and watched as the new boy got boxes from the truck and brought them into the house.

Finally, Neighbor Boy had finished and closed the back of the truck. He picked up a bottle of water and brought it to his lips, flexing his biceps as he chugged it down. I sighed, he was so gorgeous.

THUNK! Something hit the window. I screamed then turned around to see Kevin standing in my door with my favorite shoes in his hand, behind his head, aimed to throw.

"KEVIN! Give me my shoes!" I yelled as I stood up from my chair. "And how did you get in here anyways!?"

"It's called a KEY, stupid!" he yelled, as he threw my other shoe at me. I ducked and it hit the window again.

"I'm going to KILL YOU!" I yelled, lunging towards him. He ran out of the room to his room and slammed the door.

I plumped back down in my chair and looked out the window. But as I looked back down at Neighbor Boy and found him staring at my window. I gasped and dropped down to the floor. Oh my god! He saw me staring at him!

I slowly got back up from the floor and peeked out the window again. Neighbor Boy had now put his shirt back on and was staring at my window again. I slowly stood up and blew a piece of hair that was hanging in my face. Neighbor Boy laughed and slowly lifted his hand, and moved it back and forth quickly, smiling with his perfectly white teeth. I smiled awkwardly and waved back.

Neighbor Boy then pointed to himself then pointed towards my door. I smiled and nodded, giving him an awkward thumbs up. He smiled and started walking towards my front door. I turned around and quietly screamed. I grabbed my brush and put my hair back up into a messy bun with a thick head band. I quickly changed my sweatshirt brushed off my yoga pants putting on black ugg boots. I took a deep breath and went downstairs.

   I hope I looked okay.
