Half Hearted

Mia is still living in the past. She fell in love with the perfect guy and she knew he was the one. Until she found he'd been cheating on her with Victoria Paxon, the local slut on the corner of my street. Now that Brenden broke her heart and took half of it with him, Mia's not sure if she will ever fall in love again. But one day a new boy moves in across the street. His name is Adam Madison, and he quickly falls for his new neighbor. But he knows that her past had scarred her, he just wasn't sure what happened. Adam will have to find a crack in her wall she's built to see what's inside, but he might not be too satisfied with what he finds. Half of a heart doesn't love as a whole heart does.

17. The Surprise

Adam's POV~

We ate breakfast and left the beach house to go home. Sitting in the car, it was quiet. I turned on the radio.

"They say she's in the class A Team, stuck in her daydream."

"I love this song!" Mia exclaimed. "But lately, her face seems, slowly sinking wasting. Crumbling like pastries. And they scream, the worst things in life come free to us-"

"You never told me you could sing," I interupted.

She just laughed. "And you never told me you were into retro," she said pulling off my dice hanging from my mirror.

"I got those a long time ago from my aunt. She didn't know what to get me so she got the first thing she found."

"Ah," she said, putting them around her neck. "Suits you." I laughed. Mia started singing again. "She flys to the motherland, and sells love to another man."

"It's too cold outside, for angels to fly!" I joined in singing horrible. Mia laughed and laughed.

Finally, we pulled into her driveway. She got out the door, offering me a kiss, and waved goodbye as I backed out of the driveway and pulled into mine . . . across the street. I laughed as we both walked up to our front doors.

Unlocking the door, I walked through the door and threw my keys on the table. "I'm home!" I yelled as I walked into the kitchen. "Mo-" There, standing there with a knife in his hand, pressed to my mother's throat, was my father. "Dad . . ." I whispered, stopping in my tracks.

My mom's face was puffy from crying and she had a black eye. Her hair was a mess and I could see random bruises on her arms and neck. "Adam," my mom whispered, trying not to cry. "Don't."

"SHUT UP!" my dad yelled, back handing my mom. "I don't want to hear another word from you!"

"Dad," I said in a even voice. "What are you doing?"

"Revenge son. Revenge," he said through clenched teeth.

"Dad, you don't have to do this-"

"YES I DO! You don't know what it's like to be in jail, son. It's horrible," he said.

   "It might be but-"

   Ding Dong.

"Who the hell is that!?" he whispered, outraged but trying not to be too loud. "Come on!" He shoved my mom forward and pointed the knife at me. My mom started crying. "Shut up!" he whispered, shoving her down, causing her to hit her head on the table. She lay on the floor, bleeding.

"Shut up! Answer the door," he said pointing his knife at the door now. I nodded my head and moved to the door. He walked up right behind me and held the knife behind my back. I quietly opened the door.
