Half Hearted

Mia is still living in the past. She fell in love with the perfect guy and she knew he was the one. Until she found he'd been cheating on her with Victoria Paxon, the local slut on the corner of my street. Now that Brenden broke her heart and took half of it with him, Mia's not sure if she will ever fall in love again. But one day a new boy moves in across the street. His name is Adam Madison, and he quickly falls for his new neighbor. But he knows that her past had scarred her, he just wasn't sure what happened. Adam will have to find a crack in her wall she's built to see what's inside, but he might not be too satisfied with what he finds. Half of a heart doesn't love as a whole heart does.

4. The Park

Adam's POV~

She walked down the stairs and smiled at me. Wow, she was gorgeous, even in athletic shorts. God, she made them sexy.

"So, I never did catch your name," I said, as she took my hand that was offered for her.

"Mia, Mia Love," she said with a smile.

"Ah, Love? What an interesting last name." I opened her front door and gestured for her to walk in front of me.

"Yeah, I guess," she giggled. "So, now that I told you my name, you must give me yours."

   "I must?"

"Oh, yes," she giggled, nodding her head. "It's in the stranger's handbook."

   "Oh, the stranger's handbook?"

"Yeah! You've never heard of it?"

   "Never."

"Well then it states that when a name is given, you must give yours in return."

"I think you're just making this up off the top of your head."

"No! Who would do such a thing?"

   "I think you would."

"Well fine. But you still have to tell me your name."

I thought about this for a while, tapping my chin with my finger. "Hmm . . . I don't know. You could be some spy from Russia sent to capture me for your evil plan."

"Oh yeah! I must have forgotten my Russian accent at home!"

I laughed and shook my head. "Well then I guess I trust you. But . . . I want to play a game. Do you?"

"I want to know your name."

"We'll get to that, I promise. But first . . ." I quickly grabbed her hand and started running to the park.

"Where are we going!" she laughed while almost tripping over a root.

   "You'll see!"

Mia's POV~

We finally stopped running when we got to the old playground in the park. It had a broken down fence around it and 'CAUTION' tape surrounding it. I remember coming here as a kid and playing here for hours.

   "What are we doing here?"

"I saw this place when we drove by. Thought I'd come check it out."

"I thought we were playing a game."

   "We are."

   "Okay . . . what game?"

He sighed. "Alright . . ." He slowly looked around the playground like he was searching for something. "Ah! There it is!" He walked over to the big tick-tack-toe game. It had brown triangles with three sides looped onto a pole. One side had and 'x' the other and 'o' and the other side was blank.

   "Tick-tack-toe? This is your game?"

"With a twist," he said as he sat on the bench in front of it.

   "Okay, what's the twist?"

"Every game won, the winner gets to ask the loser a question and they have to answer it truthfully."

"Oh, sounds fun!" I said, sitting next to him.

"Ladies first," he said after turning all of the triangles to their blank sides.

"I'm gonna win . . ." I sang quietly as I flipped the middle triangle to 'x.' He then flipped the upper right triangle to 'o.' I continued by flipping the top left triangle, then he flipped the bottom right corner. I then flipped the middle left one to 'x.' Neighbor Boy just smiled. I then slowly flipped the middle right to and 'o.' Three in a row. I didn't even see that. Wow, I must be really bad.

"When was your first kiss?" he asked.

"Oh, good question. 3rd grade on the playground. I had a boyfriend. His name was James and we would play together all the time. So, one day we were playing on the slide and when I came down to the bottom, James was standing there. And when I finally stopped, he just planted one on me, like out of no where. Then he ran off to tell his friends and I ran off to tell mine."

He laughed. "Wow, seems like a nice kid."

"Yeah . . . I guess you could say that. Okay, next game!"

We switched all of the triangles back to blank and started to play. I lost 5 times after that, with 5 questions.

   ~ "What's your favorite color?"

   "Favorite food?"

"When was the last time you actually had fun?"

   "Favorite movie?"

"Are you a good dancer?" ~

"Ugh! I give up! I'm horrible at this game!"

"Either that or I'm really good."

"I think I'm just really bad."

"Are you saying that I'm bad?" he said, getting up.

"No, but I'm not saying that you're good." I got up too and playfully shoved him. "So, tell me your name."

He smiled. Only if you say I'm the best tick-tack-toe player alive."

I thought about this a second. "Alright, you are the most amazing, fantastic, best ever in the whole world, awesome tick-tack-toe player alive."

He laughed and look both of my hands in his. He pulled me closer, so his face was only inches from mine. "Adam, Adam Madison."
