Half Hearted

Mia is still living in the past. She fell in love with the perfect guy and she knew he was the one. Until she found he'd been cheating on her with Victoria Paxon, the local slut on the corner of my street. Now that Brenden broke her heart and took half of it with him, Mia's not sure if she will ever fall in love again. But one day a new boy moves in across the street. His name is Adam Madison, and he quickly falls for his new neighbor. But he knows that her past had scarred her, he just wasn't sure what happened. Adam will have to find a crack in her wall she's built to see what's inside, but he might not be too satisfied with what he finds. Half of a heart doesn't love as a whole heart does.

9. The Other Half

 Mia's POV~

I put in my hoop earings and applied my lip gloss, my last touches. Suddenly, two strong arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me close.

"Hey, sexy," said a fimiliar voice.

"Brenden . . ." I whined. "You were supposed to wait downstairs."

"You knew I wouldn't." He quickly spun me around and picked me up into his arms, bridal style. He touched his lips to mine as we twirled in circle. He carried me down the stairs and set me down in front of the door, opening it, gesturing for me to walk through.

"There's my girl!" exclaimed my dad, pulling me into a hug. "And Brenden! You clean up nice."

"Thank's Jack, you don't look to bad yourself!" My dad and Brenden had always been on a first name basis. They were like father and son, but more like brothers, despite the age difference. Of coarse we didn't tell him about the Victoria thing, it would break his heart.

"I've got a surprise for yeah," my dad said, opening the door of his car to pull out an iphone.

"Awe, Jack, you shouldn't have," Brenden said nodding his head with a smile.

"Just a little something for my favorite daughters boyfriend. You'd said you needed a new phone, so . . ." He held it out to Brenden and he took it without any hesitation, stuffing it into his inside jacket pocket. They were always getting gifts for each other but my dad always loved to spoil Brenden with expensive things, like cars and iphones, while Brenden just got him tickets to a basketball game or something little.

We got in the car and drove to the hotel. The staff opened the huge double doors to reveal a huge ball room, filled with people and food. People were just carrying on conversations about the houses or other unimportant matters.

I floated from group to group, trying to interest anyone in buying a house. I had gotten very good at this over the years. After I'd "sold" about 12 houses, I needed a restroom break.

I walked out the door, down a long hallway and turned into the ladies room. When I was finished I walked out the swinging door to see Brenden. Brenden. Brenden with a girl. Brenden with a pretty girl. Brenden with a pretty girl's lips pressed to his. I had seen this way to many times. I took a deep breath and formally walked over there.

"Brenden!" I exclaimed, planting clearly fake smile on my face. Brenden's eyes popped open, guilt, spreading like wild fire across his face. He pushed the girl away, trying to make her disappear. The girl just runted and stompped off.

"Is it my turn yet?" I said slowly walking over to him. I got close enough to him so I could smell his fear. "Brenden's been a bad boy," I suductivly whispered. I reached for his coat, slipping it off of his shoulders, down near his elbows. I bit his collar with my teeth and lightly pulled on it, hooking my finger in his belt loop. He was visibly shaking. I could see he was fighting not so rip me open. I laughed at his stupidity and reached down to get into his coat. I slipped out his iphone and held it in front of his face. "Thank you," I said, pulling away and slapping him accross the face. "Be sure to tell your next girlfriend, your "ex" girlfriend says good luck."

And with that, I slowly walked towards the door. Just like the phone, I'd taken something back from him that was not rightfully his. The other half of my heart. Yes, it may be broken, maybe even shattered, but now I have all of the pieces to put it back together.

When I get outside the hotel doors it finally hits me. The pain, the hurt, the betrayal. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't go home because my mom was there. I couldn't go very far anyways because I didn't have a car.

All of the memories of the pain rushes back to me and the tears begin to flow, the panic, the confusion. It's all too much. So, I just do what I did the first time. I take off my shoes and run. I run and run and run. I don't care if my legs go numb, I keep running. Finally, it starts raining. Perfect.

Then I know. I know where to go. It's perfect. It's payback. It's meant to be, I finally realize. I just couldn't see it because my doors where closed and the only other person in the room with me was a jerk.

I ran and ran until I got to the front door. I rang the door bell, probably a million times before he answered.

~~~ Uh, oh! Who could it be? You'll have to wait for the next chapter to find out, although I'm guessing you probably already know. Sorry it took so long to write, just too lazy to write the chapter again. We'll see if it publishes this time;)
