Half Hearted

Mia is still living in the past. She fell in love with the perfect guy and she knew he was the one. Until she found he'd been cheating on her with Victoria Paxon, the local slut on the corner of my street. Now that Brenden broke her heart and took half of it with him, Mia's not sure if she will ever fall in love again. But one day a new boy moves in across the street. His name is Adam Madison, and he quickly falls for his new neighbor. But he knows that her past had scarred her, he just wasn't sure what happened. Adam will have to find a crack in her wall she's built to see what's inside, but he might not be too satisfied with what he finds. Half of a heart doesn't love as a whole heart does.

6. The Jerk

Mia's POV~

I lay in bed, thinking about what Adam said to me. It reminded me how stupid I am for still loving Brenden. How can I be so stupid? There's a guy I pretty much just met and he's already in love with me. And I turned him down because I'm too stupid to move on!

There was a knock on the door. In walked my mother. She had a sad, serious expression on her face, looking me right in the eyes. "Brenden's here."

Both hurt and hope rushed through me, along with a little confusion. I looked down at my hands, tears threatening to fall, "What did he say he wanted?"

"He just wants to talk. I didn't let him in the house, there's no way I'm letting that irrisponible, dirt bag into my house, ever again," my mother said. I tell my mother everything, so of coarse she knew about him cheating.

I looked up. "What should I do?"

She sighed, walking over to the side of the bed and sitting by me. "I know it will hurt, but . . . I think you need to make things right with him. Tell him what he did was wrong, and it will take a long time for you to forgive him, but tell him you still want to be friends."

I smiled and hugged my mom. What would I do without her? "Thank you mom. I love you."

I finally walked down the stairs and opened the front door to see Brenden leaning against the wall. I slowly walked out and closed the door behind me, confronting Brenden for the first time in a month, face to face. "What do you want from me Brenden?" I asked keeping my head down.

"Mia," he said, his voice making me shiver. "I miss you."

I looked up, anger and disbelief in burning in my eyes. "No you don't. You probably broke up with Victoria and came crawling back to me because, with your fragile little ego, you can't stand not having a girlfriend."

Brenden just smiled. "I deserved that one," he said nodding his head. He had never once taken his eyes off of me. "Yes, I did break up with Victoria, but you know why?" He slowly took a step forward, reaching for my hand. Once he had it in his grasp, he slowly moved his fingers in circles across my palm. Everywhere his skin wasn't touching mine, burned. "Because of you, Mia."

I quickly pulled my hand away, looking down to the floor again. "You're lying."

Brenden quietly chuckled. "You're so sexy when you're mad," he said, his eyes burning holes through me.

"You're an asshole," I said, shaking my head.

Brenden chuckled again and took another step forward, pressing me against the wall. I could feel the brick against my burning skin. "Thank you," Brenden whispered. I could feel his breath on my neck. "Mia, I love you."

"You never loved me," I said, pushing my body farther from his. I wanted to disappear, sink through the wall and run. But I couldn't move. "If you loved me, you wouldn't have left me for Victoria."

"That was a mistake. A huge mistake," he said, pulling back far enough so he could see my face. "My parents were getting a divorce and I needed to forget. I knew I couldn't go to you because you refused to do it with me. So I found someone I knew that would. That was stupid of me and I can't be more sorry."

I refused to look at him. He was right, I did refuse to have sex with him. I wasn't ready, and I'm still not. "What you did was horrible, and it will take a very long time for me to forgive you."

He just nodded slowly. Then he moved his lips to touch the sensitive spot on my neck. I started shaking, he made me so uncomfortable. He smiled against my skin. "I make you nervous, don't I?" I swollowed and nodded slowly, trying to stop myself from shivering. He continued to move his lips up my neck to my chin. He stopped himself and moved his lips to my ear. "I'm going to kiss you," he whispered and before I could protest he touched his lips to mine.

"Um . . . excuse me," said a fimiliar voice. "Who are you?"
