Half Hearted

Mia is still living in the past. She fell in love with the perfect guy and she knew he was the one. Until she found he'd been cheating on her with Victoria Paxon, the local slut on the corner of my street. Now that Brenden broke her heart and took half of it with him, Mia's not sure if she will ever fall in love again. But one day a new boy moves in across the street. His name is Adam Madison, and he quickly falls for his new neighbor. But he knows that her past had scarred her, he just wasn't sure what happened. Adam will have to find a crack in her wall she's built to see what's inside, but he might not be too satisfied with what he finds. Half of a heart doesn't love as a whole heart does.

20. The Hospital

Mia's POV~

We sat in the hospital's waiting room. We'd been there for 3 hours. I held Adam for 3 hours. Finally the doctor came.

   "Mr. Madison?" the doctor asked.

   "Yes," he whispered quietly.

The doctor sighed. "We tried our hardest," he started. "But due to the amount of blood lost . . . we couldn't save her. We're very sorry." The doctor walked to Adam's side and patted his back, wanting to comfort him but not sure how to. "We'll need to talk to you later but take as much time as you need . . ." He patted his back again and slowly turned to go.

"Adam . . ." I whispered. Adam just sat in his chair, a tear falling and slowly making it's way down his cheek. I sat next to him and he burried his head in my shoulder. I kissed his forehead and softly rubbed his back, a tear falling down my cheek as well.

The next few hours were a living hell. Adam got to say goodbye to his mom, talked to the doctors and was sent home to pack his stuff. I still didn't know what the doctors had said to him. I didn't know what was happening and it was killing me. I sat in my living room and hugged my old stuffed animal I used to sleep with every night. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. I slowly got up and wrapped a blanket over my shoulders, walking to the door. I opened it to see a broken Adam. He gave me a look that said 'bad news.' I nodded and let him in.

"I'm going to New York," he said, closing the door and leaning against it. I looked at him. More tears. Adam sighed and pulled me into his arms. "I know," he said. His touch was so comforting. I never wanted to leave the protection of his arms. It kept me from knowing the real pain of the world.

"We can't do long distance," I whispered. "It'll tear us apart." Adam just nodded. "Adam . . . Just know . . . my heart will always belong to you."

"And mine will be yours," he said before lifting my chin and kissing me. This kiss was not like our first kiss, not like the one at the house, but so real and so perfect, it was painful. Only because we knew it might be our last.
