Half Hearted

Mia is still living in the past. She fell in love with the perfect guy and she knew he was the one. Until she found he'd been cheating on her with Victoria Paxon, the local slut on the corner of my street. Now that Brenden broke her heart and took half of it with him, Mia's not sure if she will ever fall in love again. But one day a new boy moves in across the street. His name is Adam Madison, and he quickly falls for his new neighbor. But he knows that her past had scarred her, he just wasn't sure what happened. Adam will have to find a crack in her wall she's built to see what's inside, but he might not be too satisfied with what he finds. Half of a heart doesn't love as a whole heart does.

10. The Good Guy

Adam's POV~

Beep . . . Beep. The microwave beeped. I opened the door and pulled out the popcorn I'd put in. Tonight, I finally had nothing to do and I wasn't going to waist it. Sportscenter was on and I wasn't planning doing anything else.

I sat down in my favorite chair and finally relaxed for the first time this week. Ding. The doorbell. Great.

I looked at the time. 11:26. Who could be bothering me at this time? Ugh. I got up out of my chair only to realize I didn't have a shirt on. Then I realized, I didn't care. This person was bothering me when I was supposed to be doing nothing.

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding! Oh my god. I finally got to the door and opened it. There standing on my porch was Mia. She was soaking wet and muddy. Her dress and her shoes in her hand were both ruined. Her face was red and puffy, her eyes bloodshot and mascara running down her cheeks. Her hair was muddy and looked like a mess.

"Mia?" I asked unsure. "What happened?" She just stood there looking at me. Suddenly she dropped her shoes, wrapped her arms around me and slammed her lips to mine. She pushed me in the house and leaned me against the wall.

I finally took control and spun around, pinning her against the wall. She started breathing faster and pressed her body against mine, intertwined her fingers in my hair.

Then I remembered her face when I opened the door. Pain and confusion covered it. Brenden. Brenden broke her heart again and she was getting back at him with me. This wasn't real. I couldn't do this. I finally pulled away.

Breathing hard, I sat on the stairs. "Adam?" Mia asked, surprised.

"What did he do to you Mia?" I said looking up with my elbows resting on my knees. Mia just stood there, tears running down her cheeks. I sighed. "Come on," I said, standing up and holing out my hand for her to take. "Let's get you cleaned up."

We walked up the stairs to my bedroom and she took a shower. Before I knew it she peeked her head out the door and smiled, embarrassed. "I don't have anything to wear," she said, giggling.

"Well that's a problem, isn't it?" I smiled. Getting up off my bed, I walked over to my drawer and pulled out a t-shirt and some boxers. I walked over to the bathroom door and handed them to her.

She just took them but didn't close the door. She smiled up at me, tears filling the brims of her eyes. "Thank you, Adam," she said, smiling sadly, then closed the door. I just smiled and layed down on my bed again. I knew this day would come, I just didn't think it would be this bad. I knew I'd be here to help, always.
