Half Hearted

Mia is still living in the past. She fell in love with the perfect guy and she knew he was the one. Until she found he'd been cheating on her with Victoria Paxon, the local slut on the corner of my street. Now that Brenden broke her heart and took half of it with him, Mia's not sure if she will ever fall in love again. But one day a new boy moves in across the street. His name is Adam Madison, and he quickly falls for his new neighbor. But he knows that her past had scarred her, he just wasn't sure what happened. Adam will have to find a crack in her wall she's built to see what's inside, but he might not be too satisfied with what he finds. Half of a heart doesn't love as a whole heart does.

18. The Front Door

Mia's POV~

"Mia," Adam whispered, fear flashing on his face, only to be replaced with anger.

"What the hell do you want?" the man standing next to him.

"Um," I struggled. This man did not seem friendly. I had no idea who he was and he was standing awfully close to Adam. "I just wanted to return these," I said, holding up the dice I'd taken from his car. I forgot I'd hung them around my neck. The man just held out his hand, retrieving the dice.

"Alright now. You can be on your way now," the man said nervously, his pacience nonexsistent. He began to close the door before I stopped it with my forearm.

"I'm sorry for intruding but may I ask who you are?" I asked. I was worried. This man could  be trying to kill Adam. And where was his mother? I thought she was to be home today.

"Well, ain't you just the nosiest litte girl I'd ever seen?" he said. "I'm Adam's father." Realization spread through my vains making me shiver. He was in jail. But now he's here. That means he broke out. And you might as well stick a sign on his forehead saying 'revenge' because I knew that's the only reason he'd be here. Revenge. "Now that I answered your question, why don't you answer mine?" He said, leaning against the door, blocking Adam out of the picture. "Who might you be, and what the hell are you doin' on my front porch?"

"I'm Mia Love. I live across the street. Adam and I are just friends."

Adam's POV~

When I opened the door to Mia, panic raged through me. He would hurt her. When she told him that she was just my neighbor and a friend, I knew she'd figured it out. He'd told her the truth about being my father, and she just had to put the pieces together. And she had.

Mia's POV~

"Well ain't that just presious!" Adam's dad exclaimed, throwing his head back to give a hardy laugh. "Now, Miss Love, if you wouldn't mind leaving me and my son some time now? I haven't seen him in a long time."

"Oh, yes, I'll just be going on my way."

"Thank you," he said before slamming the door in my face. Quietly, I headed towards the window in the front of the house, peaking in carefully. There, laying on the floor, pale faced and bleeding out was Adam's mother. It looked like she'd been pushed down and slammed her head into the table, left to die. I looked to my left to see Adam and his father, his dad waving a knife around as Adam pressed himself against the wall, trying to make himself disappear.

Quickly, I pulled out my cell phone and dialed.

"911, what is your emergency?" said the voice.
