Half Hearted

Mia is still living in the past. She fell in love with the perfect guy and she knew he was the one. Until she found he'd been cheating on her with Victoria Paxon, the local slut on the corner of my street. Now that Brenden broke her heart and took half of it with him, Mia's not sure if she will ever fall in love again. But one day a new boy moves in across the street. His name is Adam Madison, and he quickly falls for his new neighbor. But he knows that her past had scarred her, he just wasn't sure what happened. Adam will have to find a crack in her wall she's built to see what's inside, but he might not be too satisfied with what he finds. Half of a heart doesn't love as a whole heart does.

7. The Choice

Adam's POV~

The guy slowly pulled his lips away from Mia's and turned his head towards me. "The real question is," he said, slowly walking towards me, "Who are you?"

"My name is Adam Madison. I just moved in accross the street. I just happened to see you trying to rape Mia Love over here."

The asshole just laughed. "It's not rape when she's my girlfriend."

"You're not her girlfriend, big boy."

"Oh? And how would you know? I thought you just moved in accross the street."

"Yes," I said nodding my head. "I did. But I happen to know her old boyfriend, some fag named Brenden, broke her heart and took half of it with him."

"Ah, so I'm a fag now?" Brenden said, shoving my chest

"I know your story, it seems pretty accurate," I retaliated, shoving him.

"You know, you've got a lot of nerve-"

   "STOP!" yelled Mia.

Brenden and I turned our heads to see Mia, standing by the door crying. "Mia!" I said, quickly pulling her into my arms before Brenden even moved. "I'm sorry."

"Leave her alone," Brenden said as he pulled her from my arms and wrapped his around her.

I sighed. "Mia?" She slowly pulled her head away from Brenden's chest and looked at me with puffy eyes. "Is this what you want?"

She looked sadly into my eyes, another tear falling from her cheek. She slowly nodded as the tear rolled to the corner of her mouth. I looked down and smiled. "Alright," I said. I slowly walked to the steps of her porch before turning around to meet Brenden's eyes. "But if you ever, ever, hurt her again, I will find you." I turned, walking down the stairs towards my house. I would wait. And when Mia comes to her sences and realizes this guy is a jerk, I'll be there, ready to catch her when she falls.

Mia's POV~

I closed my eyes and rested my head on Brenden's shoulder. I don't know why I picked him over Adam. I can't think of one reason. Not one. I just did. My heart just leaned towards Brenden. Maybe what Adam said about Brenden breaking my heart and taking half of it with him was true. Maybe my heart was just trying to find it's other half.

"Mia," called my mother in the kitchen. "Could you come here for a moment?"

I tried to get up from the couch but was pulled back down again. "Wait," Brenden said, touching his lips to mine before I had to pull away and go talk to my mother. I smiled as I walked into the kitchen.

"Why is that asshole in my house?" my mother asked. She was typing on her computer, her glasses perched on her nose.

   "Mom, give him another chance-"

"Mia, I've told you before. It's your own life, your own choices, your own mistakes. But I'm not letting that boy hurt you again."

   "Mom, I'll be fine."

My mother looked up at me, taking off her glasses and studying me. She slowly got up from her chair and pulled me into her arms. "I just don't want you to get hurt again, sweetie," she whispered as she kissed the top of my head.

I smiled. "I know mom," I said. "I love you."

She just sighed and smiled. "I love you too."
