15. Now you know

Hello everybody, how are ya doing?
One of my best friends is going to the hospital right now for some tests, so this chapter is for her (:
Goodluck sweetheart <3
Anyways, enjoy (:

I was getting a little nervous right now. I didn’t know if it was because of that I was together with Rose, or the fact that we were all alone in the middle of the woods. I shrugged it off, and we both just kept on peddling ahead.
After a little while, there was a junction, where we could go two ways.
“So where do we go now?” Rose asked me. “That man said we had to go right, so I guess we’re going that way,” I replied. She nodded. “Let’s go,” she said and smiled.

After a while, we arrived at a second junction. “He didn’t tell me about a second cross,” I mumbled. “What are we going to do now?” Rose asked. I hesitated. “I guess we’ll just wait until the others are here, they must know which way we have to go. It shouldn’t take too long before they’re here,” I said.
She nodded, so we pulled the canoe aside and sat down on a tree.
We were sitting next to each other, our hands very close to each other. If I would stretch my finger I would touch hers. There was a bit of an awkward silence and I was trying to find a way to break it.
“So,” I started, “what happened between you and Tiffany? I mean, why does she hate you?”

She let out a deep sigh. “It’s a long story,” she mumbled. “We have plenty of time,” I said and smiled at her. She smiled back slightly and started.

“This might surprise you, but Tiffany and I used to be best friends in first grade. We were – and still are – completely different persons, but somehow we became friends and later on even best friends.
She was always the pretty, popular girl, and I was her ugly, quiet friend. I didn’t mind, I’ve never liked attention. I’d rather just be the person that is not popular, but is still liked by everyone, you know what I mean?” Niall nodded so I went on with my story.
“Anyways, for two years long we were inseparable. Then, there was this guy who I liked, so I told Tiffany, because you know, we were best friends.
She told me to go for it, so I was going to tell him how I felt when we would hang out at the park, just as friends.” I felt the tears welling up in my eyes.
“I’ve waited for 3 hours, but he never showed up. When I got home I called Tiffany, crying my eyes out, and she told me he was her boyfriend. She had asked him out this afternoon, but she knew I liked him. She even encouraged me to ask him out! I asked her why she did it, and she said he would never even want me because I wasn’t pretty enough. I was furious, obviously, and didn’t talk to her for a month. After that, she apologized and we were friends again, sort of. We just grew apart and I got a new friend, Tori. Tiffany was very jealous and tried to sabotage our friendship, which she couldn’t. And well, she’s still trying to ruin the friendship between me and Tori, and she still bullies me with the fact I never had a boyfriend. So now you know.” I went silent and stared at my feet. Why wouldn’t Niall say anything?
