4. CHAPTER THREE

"Alexa, it's just up on the left hand side. Number twenty three, red door. Just pull up on the pavement in front of it, I'll put mine in the garage."

"Okay."

Alexa disconnected her bluetooth where she had been speaking to Jake for most of the short journey to his house. Jake lived on a new, sprawling housing estate behind Sommerville College. Rows and rows of pretty little terraced and detached houses lined the route, until they had eventually turned into his cul-de-sac. Alexa managed to mount the pavement as carefully as she could whilst Jake swung the Mercedes smoothly into the garage that was attached to his house.

She took a deep calming breath repeating her mantra as she exited the car.

Do not fuck this up Alexa, do not fuck this up Alexa...

Jake opened the red wooden front door and after a series of beeps he switched off the alarm.

"Come in Alexa," he beconed warmly. "You can hang your coat up on the rack. Sitting room is just to your right. Go make yourself comfortable, I'll stick the kettle on."

Hanging her coat up, she entered Jake's sitting room. It was only small and screamed 'Bachelor Pad', with it's dark wood furniture, chrome acessories and black leather L-shaped couch.  The walls were painted a deep, almost burgundy red and the soft carpet she was sinking into was also a deep wine colour. It reminded her of Christian Grey's Playroom from the Fifty Shades of Grey books, that she loved to the point of obsession. She sat down on the couch, studiously avoiding the end with the extended seat that you could lie on, and it made a gentle hissing sound under her.

"How do you like it?" Jake asked with a smile coming back into the room.

"It's lovely. A proper bachelor pad! I like this couch," She smiled, stroking the smooth leather.

Jake grinned. "Glad you like the room...but I was actually asking how you liked your coffee..."

Brilliant! Well done Alexa!

Alexa felt herself going as red as the walls. "Oh...umm...white with one. Not too strong please."

"No worries, back in a mo." He beamed and left the room.

Alexa shut her eyes and slapped herself on the forehead. She took another deep calming breath, trying to slow down her quick, shallow breaths. She was ridiculously nervous, and terrified she would do or say something even more stupid and Jake would ask her to leave.

He re-entered the room moments later, carrying two mugs of steaming coffee and placed them on the chrome and smoked glass coffee table in front of Alexa.

"Let me give you the tour whilst they cool down a bit. There's something upstairs I want to show you."

Oh crap...Upstairs? Not his bedroom...surely?

Alexa swallowed hard and stood up shakily from the sofa which almost seemed to give a reluctant sigh. She followed Jake into the kitchen.

"This is the kitchen/diner. I don't tend to use the dining table. I just nuke something in the microwave and then eat it in front of the telly."

"You don't cook?" Alexa asked in surprise.

"Don't really have the time, energy or patience," he said with a smile. "Do you cook?"

"Yeah I love cooking. I find it relaxing. I'm very house-trained...no wait...not house trained...DOMESTICATED!"

Jake howled with laughter. "I really must look up if there is such a thing as Verbal Dyspraxia! Oh God Alexa, you always did know how to make me laugh!"

"It's not as if I do it on purpose," Alexa muttered feeling like a half-wit.

Jake smiled fondly at her, put his arm around her shoulder and gave it a squeeze. "I know, and it's utterly endearing. Come on let me show you upstairs."

Utterly endearing? Bloody hell I should trip over my tongue more often!

Alexa followed his lead upstairs, trying desperately not to stare at his toned buttocks as they moved against his well fitted jeans. It was only then she recognised the winged logo - Giorgio Armani. Alexa shook her head. Her jeggings were from the supermarket. In fact her whole ensemble today was from the supermarket, as were most of her clothes. Childcare didn't pay that well. They arrived on the landing and Jake pointed to the first door.

"Bathroom, then this spare room I've converted into a study. I plan to continue studying for a good few years, now I'm back." He said opening the second door.

"Back?" Alexa asked in confusion as she took in the small, stark room that held nothing but a bookshelf, desk and a chair.

"Yeah...I did four years at Sheffield and then I took a year out and went to live in Valencia - working at a local hospital there. It was nice to spend quality time with my relatives and I also went to college at night to learn Spanish - so I can finally do more than order chips and swear at last! I'm actually quite fluent now and I can even read and write it to a certain degree."

Alexa beamed. "Oh Jake I'm so happy for you! Well done. I know how important that was to you."

"Yeah it was. Papá's absolutely overjoyed! He now only speaks to me in Spanish! Right, this is what I wanted to show you."

He led her out of the spare room and opened the final door. It could only be one thing. Alexa desperately tried to slow down her rapid breathing again, as Jake ushered her into his bedroom. The first thing that struck her was the colour. It was all shades of green, from mint paint on the walls, to the satiny emerald green curtains, matching duvet and the lime green carpet. The furniture was all white, providing a nice contrast to the various shades of green.

"Recognise that?" He asked nodding to the wall opposite his bed.

Alexa followed his gaze. There was a LCD flat screen TV on a a chest of drawers, but above that hung an A3 size canvas print.

"OH MY GOD! My photo!" Alexa squealed.

Jake beamed. "That photo became my talisman for inspiration Alexa. It reminded me what was important in life and how I could make a difference. The first opportunity I had, I had it printed onto canvas. I was terrified I'd lose or damage the original photo. It's hung up on the walls of all my student digs and I took the original with me to Spain. It's the last thing I see at night and the first thing I see in the morning. And it's all because of you."

Alexa's green eyes began to swim with tears.

That has to be, the nicest thing I've ever heard in my life.

Alexa couldn't believe it. This handsome, talented, amazing young man, had used a photo she took of him five years ago, to inspire him in life.

"I..I..don't know what to say Jake. You amaze me," she breathed as a lone tear escaped down her cheek.

Jake was still looking at the canvas. "I wanted to show you exactly what an inspiration you were to me. Meeting you literally changed my life." He turned towards her. "Shit! Why are you crying?"

Alexa shook her head unable to voice her words. Jake put his arms around her and drew her into his chest, holding her tight and flush against him. "Please, please don't cry Alexa." He breathed into her hair. "It breaks my heart that in the two times I've seen you again, I've managed to make you cry on both occasions!"

Alexa found herself unable to stop crying. She was so taken aback and overwhelmed. It was the last thing she ever expected to see. She sagged against him, her head against his chest, and inhaled his familiar musky, manly smell that she had first smelt all those years ago, when she had literally fallen at his feet.

He moved his hands up her back and cupped her face. She stared at him through wet, watery eyes, unable to look away from his concerned gaze. Using just the pads of his thumbs he gently brushed her tears away.

"Please... don't cry Alexa..." he pleaded in a low voice. "Please..."

Then, as if in slow motion, she watched on helplessly as he bent forward and brought his lips gently down onto hers.

Oh Jesus, Mary, Joseph and all that's holy...

It had been so long since her last kiss, she could barely remember it. And she certainly didn't remember it feeling anything like this! He teased her mouth with his, pulling at her lips, and running his tongue along them. Alexa felt her whole body vibrate as desire began to ignite within her. Her knees suddenly went spongy and she wobbled, but Jake quickly grasped her waist and held her even tighter to him, again supporting her against him.

Oh God, Oh God, Oh God...what am I doing? I'm kissing him...IN HIS BEDROOM! I have to stop before things get out of hand.

And I will do...

...In a minute...

She grasped his biceps steading herself as she began to respond to his kiss. Despite wanting him to stop, she didn't want to miss the opportunity to have a feel of the body that had driven her to distraction all these years. She slowly moved her hands up his back, feeling all the warm, finely honed muscles move under her fingers. She trailed up to his broad shoulders and felt every hard sinew warm under her touch. She then trailed her fingers back down past his lower back and onto his hard, pert bottom as she heard Jake emit unintelligible sounds from deep in his throat.

Wow! He feels as amazing as he looks. Oh God...I have to...STOP....

With a loud slurp, she reluctantly pulled her mouth off his and dropped her arms. Jake's eyes flapped open and she saw that his dark eyes were bright and shiny. They looked like they were almost lit up from within.

"Oh Alexa," he panted. "I've wanted to do that since the first time I met you! Please don't stop..."

"Jake," Alexa tried to sound firm, but her voice was quivering. "Jake...I...I.." What did she want to say? Her mind had gone blank. She didn't even remember why she had stopped him. Before she had chance to assemble any kind of coherent sentence, Jake brought his lips back down onto hers again and she responded immediately. Her emotions were threatening to run away with her and she felt like she was floating...

Floating...FLOATING...

...Then suddenly something soft caressed her back, as Jake's weight pressed onto her front. Her eyes flew open.

Jesus Christ we're lying on the bed! How the hell had that happend?

Alexa started to panic. She pulled back immediately and tried to push Jake off her. Jake pulled up supporting his weight on his elbows either side of her chest.h

"What? Alexa, sweetheart, what is it? Shit! I'm going too fast aren't I? Oh God...I'm so sorry sweetheart, I've just loved you for so long..." He looked down at her, his face barely concealing his horror. "Jesus Alexa, please don't start crying again! Oh my God, what have I done?"
