TRAINING THE COUGAR *warning explicit content*

**Love Story with explicit content **
Shy thirty-something, Fifty Shades obsessive and One Direction fan Alexa, was hiding a traumatic secret from her past. As a result, she'd put up personal barriers and kept friends, colleagues and men at arm's length. Then one summer, Jake Martin appeared all too briefly in her life. He was handsome, clever, kind...and only eighteen! Nothing happened during that Summer, but now five years on, fate had ensured their paths crossed again. Could this traumatised Cougar put the past behind her and could Jake be the one who finally teaches her how to love?

"Bye Alexa, thank you for my presents!"

Alexa beamed at the little boy in the hospital bed. Poor Ben Greene had fallen off his bike at the weekend and had ended up needing pins in his fractured elbow. Ben regularly came to the Playscheme so she had popped in to visit him and had taken him a little book about Doctors and Nurses and a big bag of Maltesers - both of which had been very happily received.

"It was very kind of you to pop by on your day off, Alexa." Mrs Greene said gratefully. "You don't find many people who go that extra mile nowadays."

"Aww I was happy to do it." She turned back to the little boy as she grabbed her bag. "You get well soon, sweetie. We'll soon have you running around at the club again." She waved goodbye as she headed off the ward and began fishing in her bag for her mobile phone. As she walked distractedly through the doors, she body slammed straight into a Doctor - practically head-butting him in the chest and causing his stethoscope to land a direct blow to her eye. Alexa stepped back in mortified horror, clutching her right eye as tears streamed from it.

OWWW! My bloody eye!

"Oh my God, I'm so sorry! I was reading patient notes. Are you okay, miss?" A deep smokey voice asked. Through her blurry vision she saw the Doctor put the notes under his arm and his hands gently on her shoulders.

Alexa nodded going purple with embarrassment as she swiped the tears from the other eye, which had now started to stream in sympathy.

"My fault, I wasn't looking where I was going." She mumbled as she mentally prepared to run off and hide down the nearest hole.

But the Doctor didn't let her go. Through her tears she saw him retrieve a packet of pocket tissues from his gown. Opening one out, he went to apply the tissue to her eyes. Suddenly she heard him draw a sharp intake of breath.

Alexa finally looked up and tried to focus on the Doctor's face.

How the hell does a Doctor know who I am?

She blinked rapidly a few times in confusion. As the tears began to clear, she found she was staring into a familiar pair of shining dark eyes.

"OH MY GOD! JAKE? Is that really you?" She heard herself squeal. LOUDLY.

Jake laughed. "Yeah! Shit, Alexa - let me have a good look at your eyes, please. They're still streaming."

Jake Martin. JAKE. FUCKING. MARTIN. After all these years I've run into him again. Literally.

"I caught my right eye on your stethoscope. The other one's just feeling left out," she breathed, trying to remain calm.

"Ouch! Still Dyspraxic then?" She could hear the grin in his voice.

Dammit why won't my eyes stop streaming? I can't see him properly!

She suddenly felt his hand grab hers and he led her to a nearby window. He dabbed at the tears, then gently lifted up her right eyelid.

"Shit, it's quite red. I'm so sorry. It's going to sting for a bit. Come to the canteen with me, I'll get you some ice."

"There really is no need, Jake..." she began unconvincingly.

But Jake already had a firm grip of her arm and was leading her down the corridor.

"I'm sure you have more important things you could be doing..." She said, trying desperately to focus on his face through her watery eyes.

"I don't start my shift for another half hour. I was just going through some patient notes in preparation."

Jake opened the door to the canteen and helped her into a seat. A few moments later he was back with a small bag of ice, wrapped in a paper towel. Alexa was still trying to get her thoughts into some semblance of order.

Why was Jake Martin a Doctor for fucks sake!

"Just hold it on your eye for a bit. It should help it settle back down." He sat down in front of her.

As she managed to get both her streaming eyes under control, she was finally able to focus her green eyes onto him. His black hair was longer and sat kissing the collar of his shirt. The lower half of his face was covered by a thick designer stubble. But he was still the same olive-skinned, handsome, smiling Jake. Just older...and still in good shape...

"Were you visiting someone?" He asked gently.

"One of the boys that regularly comes to the Fun After Three club - Ben Greene. He fell off his bike at the weekend and fractured his elbow. I popped in with a book and some chocolates."

"Oh yes, poor little guy. I sat with him yesterday when his mum went home. Cute kid.'re still working at the Playscheme?" Jake said in surprise.

Yes...I obviously have no ambition! Unlike you...

"Yeah...but never mind about me! How did you end up being a Doctor?" She asked in astonishment.

Jake's smile grew wider. "That was probably down to you."

"ME?" Alexa dropped her ice pack on the table with a thud in shock.

Jake lifted the ice-pack and patiently put it back on her eye.

"I started the Sports Science Degree, but my heart didn't seem to be in it. I kept thinking of how much I'd enjoyed the summer at the Playscheme, so I ended up transferring to medicine and then onto Paediatric Studies. I got a job here about a month ago - that's why I'm still trying to find my way round and crashing into unsuspecting visitors!"

"But how am I responsible for that?" She asked in bewilderment.

"You showed me what it should be like to look after children. If I'd had someone like you around when I was growing up, I would have been so much happier. In the end I decided I wanted to find a profession not where I would be pushing children to achieve, but where I could dedicate myself to looking after children in some way. Paediatrics was the obvious choice."

Alexa was totally taken aback. "I...I...don't know what to say."

Jake reached over and grasped her hand. "I never stopped thinking about you Alexa. You have no idea what a huge influence you have been on me. I had every plan to look you up, as soon as I had settled in...and now here you are!"

"You were going to look me up?" Alexa asked in astonishment.

"Yeah of course! I wanted to find you and thank you for everything. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you."

WOW! That is so much to take in...

Alexa's heart was pounding almost as much as her head. In the five and a half years since she'd last seen him, Jake Martin had rarely been far from her thoughts. When Facebook had exploded a few years earlier she'd decided to look for him, just to see what he'd been up to. But despite several attempts, she'd only ever got as far as typing Jake into the search. She'd never had the courage to take it further, thinking that they'd spent a few weeks working together one summer and he'd probably been having the time of his life over the past five years and forgotten all about her. Now the Gods had fated their paths to not so much cross, as crash into each other and he'd apparently never forgotten about her. Unbelievably, he also seemed to think he'd become a Doctor because of her!

"Alexa...?" Jake still had hold of her hand and was looking intently at her. "My shift starts soon. I have to see you again. Please give me your number so I can contact you and take you out to lunch or something. There's so much more I want to tell you. Please."

Jesus...really? He wants to take me out? Oh God, if he only knew how many nights I've lain awake thinking about him...

Alexa removed the ice pack and shook her head to clear it. She shut her eyes and took a deep breath.
