3. He Admits

"I see," I say, lifting my neck, "You wanted to kill me yourself. Just get it over with."

"No." He says, surpriseing me. I look him in the eyes, shocked. Did he just say he wasn't going to kill me? Then he surprises me again. "Kyndra, who hurt you so much that makes you want to die?"

I couldn't answer. I couldn't tell him about my past. He'd never talk to me again. "I'm sorry, Kevin. I didn't mean to waist you time." I begin to walk away. He grabs my wrist and won't let me go.

"Kyndra! Please. Let me walk you home. I don't want Alex and her group to hurt you," He says, still holding my wrist. I turn around and walk with him. He grabs my hand. I don't jump. Maybe it's best people think one of the most popular people at school date me, even though he'd never date a loser like me. Maybe then no one would beat me up.

"Kyndra?" he whispers, looking at the ground.

"Yeah?" I whisper back, keeping my voice steady as I can.

"You know how you said you liked me, and I walked away. I'm sorry. I was just too nervous to tell you that.... Well, Kyndra..... I like you too." I felt the blood rush to my cheaks. I looked down, smiling. My first true smile in a long time.

"My house is another four mile walk," I say.

"Well," he says, stopping in the middle of the sidewalk, "We will be walking a while. Wanna get some ice cream? There is a Dairy Queen a couple blocks away."

"How did you know I loved Dairy Queen!" I say. His blue eyes flash, smileing for him.

"Race you!" He says, smileing deviously. I laugh.

"You're on!" I yell. I begin running. He knows I'm a cross country runner. What makes him think he can win?

I soon realize we are about to tie. About thirty more yards. I begin my short distance running. He catches up quickly. How in the world am I supposed to win? Twenty yards. Ten yards. Neck in neck. "Give up now, Kevin!" I yell passing him. He then passes me and begins laughing. I catch up. Five yards!
