Detective Derwent- The Midnight Murder

Detective Hugo Derwent is called upon a case in which a murder is murdered, with 6 suspects to trace and justify. But accusing just one proves to be difficult as the lies and truths of each and every one of them just doesn't add up. Who killed and why?

1. An Assessing Glare

Detective Hugo Derwent walked briskly down the stone pavement, not even pausing to wave at his wife, Lady Dahlia.

His warm breath penetrated the icy air as he sucked out the last of his tobacco pipe.

“Darling, darling! Give your missus a kiss, won’t you?”

Hugo turned to see his now stick-thin wife totter over with pouted lips. She was the product of the newest diet craze and he missed her curves- he hated seeing her like this.

As she hobbled over his eyes were drawn toward the luminous, iridescent pink and blue towers that were strapped to her dinky size 3 and a bit feet. He sighed, dropped his pipe into his slightly ajar briefcase, and bent down slightly to give her a kiss, saying:

“Now don’t you be any trouble, you’re a grown up but don’t worry as I shall return shortly.”

For a split-second, his eyes melted at the sight of a single tear fluttering down her cheek. Suddenly a taxi honked in the distance and he resumed his stone-cold assessing glare.

“Bye Dahlia.” He turned away and walked at a steady pace toward the taxi.
