27. Flat Tire

Harry's POV
I just feel like it's my fault though. I nodded and we continued. Sydney got the pies out of the oven and got a call from the police department. "Hello?" She answered. "Yes this is." We couldn't hear anything that was coming from the other side of the phone. "Okay." Pause. "Okay. The 31st of January?" "Okay. Yes I can make it." "If he's guilty, how long will he be in prison?" "Twenty years? Okay. Great. Thank you. Bye." She got off the phone and didn't bother explaining anything to us. "Who was that?" I asked. "The police department." Nothing else. "Why'd the call?" I asked again. "Court date, January 31st." And left it at that. No one asked anything else, and she didn't tell anything else. I could tell it was going to take her a while to be back to normal. I got a text from Paige. "I'll call her mum tonight and let her know what happened." I looked up at her and nodded. Either no one saw, or no one cared, because no one questioned it. We ate and played games. It wasn't the same though, because Sydney wouldn't participate, and she was staring off into space, like she was trying to avoid life and everything in it. Brittney spoke up, "Sydney, I mean I know what just happened was a lot and all, but can't you join us?" Sydney got up and walked into our bedroom. A few minutes after, everyone left. Paige and Niall were last to leave. "Just, have her call me when she's done zoning out." Paige pleaded. I nodded and they left. I walked into the bedroom and Sydney was laying down. I could tell she wasn't asleep. I got ready for bed, and laid in bed, I tried to stay away from Sydney, but she just curled up next to me. "Everyone hates me now, don't they?" She said, barely whispering it. "No! No! Not at all! We're all just worried about you. I mean, knowing everything about what happened. I'm surprised you haven't gone crazy after all these years." She giggled. "Sydney, I love you with all my heart. And you can tell me anything no matter what." Her head was on my chest and she nodded. "I love you too, with all that I have. Thank you for being there. Last time I zoned out, people stopped caring for me. I've had a hard time trusting people, but when you came along, I trusted you from the start." "You are the best girlfriend anyone could possibly ask for, flaws and all!" She giggled and fell asleep with her head on my chest.
Brittney's POV
"You okay babe?" Liam asked me. "What? Oh yeah I'm fine." I said unconvincingly. "I know you're not. What's wrong?" He knew me too well. "Well? You know how all of that happened tonight?" I asked him and he nodded. "Well, when it first happened. Everyone stopped talking to Sydney, because she would just ignore them. It was all too much for her to take in, and it was terrifying. Well, she thought everyone didn't care about her because they stopped talking to her and whenever someone would try to talk to her, she would just ask why they cared, because they didn't seem to care when she needed them. So I'm just really worried I'm going to loose her again, because for the longest time, Sydney didn't have friends because she couldn't trust anyone, and so she couldn't accept anyone as a friend. Finally Paige and I got through to her and that took a long time. Do you understand what I'm saying?" He nodded. "Brittney, I know it doesn't seem like it now, but everything is going to be okay. I know I wasn't there when it happened, but Sydney just needs time to be able to control everything. The best you can do right now is be the best friend you can possibly be, and when she needs help, help her, when she doesn't, just take a step back. Everything is going to be okay. I promise." He said holding me. "You always know what to say." I told him. "It's because I understand you." "I love you." "I love you too babe." It might not be this tomorrow, or maybe even this week, but everything is going to be fine. This is just a little flat tire, and it's being replaced now. Slowly, but surely.
