11. Swing sets and sad strangers part 2

Sophie's POV

I hopped off the swing so that Oliver could have a turn. He quickly hopped up on the swing and sat there staring at me for a second.

“Well aren’t you gonna push me?” Oliver asked. I shook my head. I was going to teach this kid the real way to ride a swing.

“ You can never be as good as me when going on a swing unless you learn to use those legs of yours to propel yourself instead of having someone push you.” I stated with a fail of a wink. Oliver looked slightly disappointed that I wasn’t just going to push him on the swing but c’mon that stuffs for babies. “ Okay first things first you need to kick your legs out forward to get you started” I mimed, “ good! Okay now when you go back put your feet under your seat and when you forward lean back and let your feet go in front of you.” He did as I said, his swing quickly climbing in height every time he brought his feet forward.

“This is awesome! Look how high I am!” He cheered with a huge grin. I smiled up at him.

“How’s the weather up there is it the same or worse?” I joked.

“ Oh definitely better” he giggled. I looked around noticing that there was no one else in the park and it was starting to get dark. I looked back at Oliver, where are his parents? I looked around more looking at the benches that went all around the park.

I turned back to Oliver, “Oliver? Where are your parents?”  His face quickly lost its smile, all traces of happiness were gone. His feet dropped so that they dragged on the ground slowing himself down.

“Oh, my parents? There uh, you know, there here.” He muttered.

“ There’s no one here. Where are they really?” I whispered as I came closer to Oliver.

“They left. When I was four they brought me to this park for my birthday. I was excited to finally be going somewhere instead of just staying home like we usually did on my birthday. They even got me cake, they had never done that before. Once we got here I was playing on the slide when I noticed that they weren’t there anymore. I looked around and they left. They left me here. So I stayed here waiting for them.”  He said quietly crying. I quickly wrapped my arms around him trying to comfort the forgotten boy.

“ How old are you now?” I asked.

“Five” He cried a bit harder wiping his nose on my shoulder. I hugged him tighter.

“You know I can’t just leave you here right?” I whispered to him rubbing hid back, “ You can come with me. I’ll probably have to hide you because I'm not sure my brother and his friend and managers would allow it, but I can sneak you food and clothes. It’ll be fine.” I wasn’t sure who I was reassuring anymore him or me. Oliver slowly started crying less and less, starting to fall asleep. I pulled out my phone and called the number Liam put in my phone for the driver explaining the situation. I waited on one of the many benches with Oliver quietly sleeping in my arms.  The driver pulled up and I picked up Oliver and walked over sitting in the car. Laying Oliver down lightly trying not to wake him.

“Please don’t tell anyone about him” I quietly pleaded to the driver. He mimed zipping his lips and gave me a comforting smile.

“You did the right thing.” He advised.
