A general rant on how to write stories

I realise quite a few people have done these, but here's mine. Just general ways to improve your stories (in my opinion). Or I might just complain about how people write things in general.

2. The bubbly best friend

Have you ever noticed that in every single movella on here, there's a friendly, cheerful best friend, who's always there for her/him?

Not in the slightest bit realistic.

Best friends are not merely filler characters, who's only purpose is to help you. In real life, do your friends merely exist to support you in life?

I didn't think so.

Firstly, most people have a group of friends. Maybe a favourite out of that, but not everyone has just one best friend. Secondly, they should have problems too. Maybe they're bad at socialness, maybe they're just depressed, or maybe they get jealous easily. But the best friend should have problems too, not just the characters. Thirdly, they are not always available. Frequently my friends are busy, not answering their phones or just plain lazy.

Even in books, the friends seem to have no life of their own. Peeta's just everywhere and Angela's plain nice all the time (sorry if I frequently use Hunger Games, Twilight and Harry Potter, it's just that most people have read them). But in Harry Potter, Ron fights with Harry, Hermione has other friends and emotional problems like everyone else. One nil to you, JK Rowling.

In conclusion. Friends have feelings too. Don't forget that.
