A general rant on how to write stories

I realise quite a few people have done these, but here's mine. Just general ways to improve your stories (in my opinion). Or I might just complain about how people write things in general.

10. Racism

Ever noticed how in basically every single book the main characters are white? Sometimes spanish/mexican type (darker skin, black hair), occasionally mixed-race and almost never black.

Frankly, I can own up to doing this too. Everyone does. I'm not sure why. Is it racism? Are white people just viewed as more beautiful in the society we live in, therefore black people perceived as uglier? I don't know.

I mean, of course most characters are going to be white. In the UK, I think around 95% of the population is British white (or something like that), but that doesn't mean there are no black people there.

In keeping with my particular fondness for keeping characters are realistic as possible, next time you're thinking up characters, squeeze in some that aren't plain white.
