29. Chapter 29

Liam POV

I woke up in the same position I had been in last night when Laila and I fell asleep. She was still holding on to me, as if she was afraid she would lose me. I guess she felt like when I was going to be gone, she would lose a part of her. I thought that mainly because, that's how I felt. I layer in silence for a while and watched as she slept.

It was now two hours later and we were both up. We were supposed to be at the airport at 10:00 and right now it was 8:15. Laila was running around her house trying to find something to wear and I was sitting in her room. I had packed everything I needed the previous night so I was pretty much all set. We were meeting Harry and Lillian at the airport too.

At least forty-five minutes and six unsuccessful outfits later, Laila was ready to go. We were about to leave when Chloe came running down the stairs. "Wait! Wait!" She screamed. I turned to look at the small girl in front of me. She was crying, small droplets of tears running down her face. "Don't leave me Liam." She whispered as I bent down and pulled her into me. "I have to go Chloe. I have to protect people." I told her. She looked up at me with her big baby blue eyes. "But you're supposed to protect me and Laila." She whispered. Those words literally made me want to cry. "How about this," I started. "you protect you and your sister. Can you do that?" She nodded. I brought her in for a big hug. "I love you Chloe." I whispered. "I love you too Liam." I released her and gave her one last look before walking out the door and closing it behind me. "That was really sweet Liam." I nodded, looking at my feet. "She really looks up to you. I hope you realize that." Laila gave me a small kiss on the cheek. We walked to my car and I threw my bag into the back. After Laila and I had gotten in and put on our seat-belts, I started the ignition and we were on our way to the airport.

When we arrived at the airport, I turned off the car and we both sat in silence. We didn't move for a long time, we just sat, enjoying the comfortable silence. "I think I'm in love with you." Laila whispered, tugging at strands of her hair. I turned to face her and put my hand under her chin and lifted her head up. "I love you. Forever and always." We leaned in, and our lips met in a sweet slow kiss. This was what it felt like when you lived some one. You never wanted to leave them, and you never wanted I hurt them. That's how I felt right now.

We walked into the airport hand in hand. It was 9:45, meaning I only had fifteen minutes left. Harry and Lillian were here, they were sitting down in some if the chairs. We had to leave five minutes before the plane took off, so everyone would have time to get on. "Laila, look at me." She turned to face me, her eyes filled with tears. "I'm going to write you whenever I have the time. And if, only if, something happens to me, just know that I love you with all my heart. I want you to make sure Chloe takes all her medicine and all those little brats that try to bully her don't get to her. And tell your dad thank you for everything." She nodded, tears running freely down her cheeks now. "I love you. I've gotta go babe." I pulled her into me as she cried and lifted her chin up. I grabbed her cheeks and pulled her face against mine. Our lips moved in sync and we just stayed there until Harry said it was time to go. She hugged me one last time before I let go. "I love you. I promise i will come hack to you Laila, whatever it takes!" Lillian walked beside her and they stood there crying. We walked out of the terminal and went down the long hallway that led to the plane. Once we reached it, we put all of our luggage up and boarded the plane. We got seated on the benches that were in the carrier. This wasn't some fancy first class plane, this was a combat plane. Because we were going to war. Those last words I had told Laila were both true and not true. Yes, I loved her. But, I might not ever see her again. Because sometimes, you make promises you can't keep.
