4. Chapter 4

School is arriving too quickly. Tomorrow is the first day which means that the last of the School Stragglers will finish arriving today.

I sit up in my bed and look over to Jade's bed. Her pale blue duvet rises and falls with her breath. I smile, shaking my head slightly, knowing that Jade won't be up til the afternoon. I slide my duvet away and slip from my bed, my feet finding refuge in the warmth of my fuzzy slippers.

With a small push, I stand up straight feeling a hurricane of frozen air hit me with force. I steady myself with one hand resting on the headboard of my bed. I shuffle over to my wardrobe, my feet barely leaving the floor. I pull open the doors of my wardrobe and scan the clothes. I settle on a pair of denim shorts and a see-through black shirt. I pull out a plain bandeau and a pair of black and gold gladiator sandals. Happy with my outfit choice, I shuffle into the bathroom, locking the door behind me.

I hop into the shower and wash my hair quickly. As the cold air swirls around me, I find comfort in my towel. I dry my body and then slip into my clothes. I glance down at my perfectly painted toes and then look at my matching finger nails. I subconsciously nod to myself and slide the bolt back on the door.

I leave the bathroom and spot Jade sitting at the dressing table, still in her pajamas.

"Took you long enough!" Jade exclaims, jumping from her stool and dashing to the bathroom. "I really need to pee!"

I shake my head in disbelief. "Too. Much. Info." I say, emphasizing every word carefully.

"Shut up Sally." Jade calls from the bathroom before I hear the bolt click.

I walk over to the dressing table and apply my usual make-up: Clear mascara, light eye-shadow, a thin line of eye-liner, a powder foundation and a shiny lip gloss. I put my make-up back into the bag as I rise from the stool.

Knock Knock!

I turn towards the door and wonder who's knocking on my door. I skip over to the door and press down on the handle. The door swings open to reveal Charlie and Oliver.

I fake a scream and slam the door, only to have it bounce wide open again. I leap over my bed and cower in ball.

"What?!" A worried voice comes from the bathroom. I hear the bolt slide back loudly and the door open. Another scream, a real one, fills the room. I sit up and see Jade in only a towel staring wide-eyed at our best friends.

"What the hell are you doing in here?!" Jade yells at the boys, her cheeks flaming brightly.

"Well, we came to see if you wanted to do something fun before school starts." Charlie says, his hand clamped over his eyes. Oliver, however, just stands there, grinning wildly with wide eyes.

I try to stifle a giggle but fail and come out of hiding. I walk towards Oliver and slap him across the head before covering his eyes.

"Sure. But first... Why don't we let Jade finish getting ready?" I ask, smirking at Jade from behind Oliver.

Charlie nods and turns around to head out the door but walks straight into the wall.

"Charlie, that's a wall." I say simply, noticing Jade scurry back into the bathroom.

"Yep." He says, popping the 'p'. " I kinda guessed that, Sal." I laugh quietly and uncover Oliver's eyes. Hurriedly, he looks around the room.

"Olly!" I yell in his ear, causing him to clamp both his hands down on it. "She's back in the bathroom. And no, you cannot go in there." I tell him, trying not to laugh at his perviness. "Charlie, you can open your eyes now."

Charlie pulls back his hand and I notice a slight pink tinge in his cheeks. I smile at him, trying to hide my urge to giggle.

"Oh, shut up." Charlie says, trying to hide his own laughter.

Oliver, Charlie and I all sit on the bed, discussing ideas of what to do. Soon, Jade appears from the bathroom, fully dressed with her hair in a high ponytail.

"Right, Let's go." She says, smiling. We nod in sync and hop from the bed.

"So, where we going?" I ask, as I shut the door behind me.

Charlie and Oliver look at each other, a smirk slipping onto their faces.

"It's a secret." Oliver says, tapping his nose gently.

"Oliver." I start, a glare shooting right at him. "Tell us where we're going."

With another exchange of glances, Charlie turns back to me and Jade.

"Okay, yesterday, I was snooping round the library when I pulled out a book." Charlie explains. "Then, a bookcase slid aside to reveal a secret passage. And now, we're going to explore it. You know, one last adventure before classes begin."

Me and Jade nod, exchanging a quick glance with each other. In that one glance, I know that Jade and I feel the same; Excitement and anxiousness.

In no time at all, we arrive at the library. I skip ahead and push open the double doors. We all file inside and my breath catches in my throat, like usual. The school library is about the size of a normal house, with 2 levels and all walls filled with bookcases. The library contains books on everything and anything you can think of.

Charlie strides ahead, followed by Oliver and then me and Jade. We follow him to the back of the large room where he scans the spines of the books. Then with a small nod, he grips a book with the words 'The History Of Fluffy Bunnies' on it. Jade and I exchange another look, both of us trying not to laugh at the book title. Charlie pulls the book back and the whole bookcase moves back and then to the right, showing a long, dark set of stairs.
