12. Chapter 12

"Okay. So all clear?" I ask, looking from Jade to Charlie and back again. They both nod. I look to the clock on my bedside table. "Charlie, you better get back to your room. It's two in the morning. Way past the curfew." Charlie nods.

"See ya tomorrow, or would it be later?" He contemplates as he climbs out the window.

"Shut up, Charlie and get back to your room. We'll see you in the morning before class." I say, shutting the window on him. He disappears into the darkness and I return to my bed. I grab my pyjamas from under my pillow and nip into the bathroom, changing, brushing my teeth and plaiting my hair. When I re-enter, I jump onto my bed and curl up.

"Night Sally." Jade says, flicking off the light.

"Night Jade." And with that, I fall into a deep sleep.

I awake later that morning, earlier than Jade and slip out of my bed. I walk into the bathroom and turn the shower on. I lock the door and strip off my pyjamas. I wash my hair and then wrap myself in my robe. I leave the bathroom and grab my uniform. I return to the bathroom and finish drying myself before slipping on my uniform. I then apply my minimal make-up and sit on my bed. Jade stirs in her sleep but makes no sign of waking. Which is fine considering we were up late and there's still and hour and a half til classes. I might as well let her sleep for half an hour so she has an hour to get get ready.

To keep myself occupied, I grab a notebook and a pen and sit on my bed with my back against the headboard. I begin writing down the plan to save the school. With a mixture of colours, spider diagrams, lists and flow charts, I write the whole plan, thinking up every outcome and possibility.

"Stop thinking so hard! It's too early." Jade's voice groans. I look over and spot her head poking up from under the mound of duvet. "Why are you so awake at this time?" I glance at me clock.

"Jade, It's seven o'clock. School starts in about an hour. Not that early." I point out.

"Whatever." She moans, crawling from her bed and into the bathroom, uniform in hand. I laugh quietly at her actions.

Fifty minutes later, Jade is fully awake and ready for school. We head out our room, as a few other girls leave theirs. I spot one of our other friends, Taylor, who is a year younger than us. I jog ahead and tap her on the shoulder. I didn't see her yesterday so I'm happy to see her now.

"Hey Tay." I greet. She turns and smiles, pulling me in for a hug. Her power is like a Superhero's, she has Super Strength. So when she pulls me in for the hug, I pray that she'll remember about her power. She almost cracked all my ribs last year with a simple hug. Luckily, she controls her strength and gives me a gentle hug.

"Hey Sally. How was your Summer?"

"Great, spent most of it praying that time would speed up so I could get back here." I giggle. Jade joins me at my side.

"Hi Taylor." She greets.

"Hey Jade." Together, the three of us, walk to the canteen where we all sit down together and wait for the others. Soon, Charlie walks in talking with another boy who's following close behind. They sit opposite us at our table.

"Morning Charlie."

"Hey guys." He says. Me and Jade share a look and then look to Charlie, waiting for an introduction. When Charlie just begins checking his tablet, I clear my throat. Charlie looks up at me. "Yes?"

"Who's your friend?" I ask.

"Oh, right. Guys this is Lewis. He shoots energy beams from his hands." Charlie explains. "Lewis, Jade, Sally and Taylor. Jade, Sally and Taylor, Lewis." He says, introducing us properly.

"Hi Lewis." We all greet.

"Hey." He replies.

"Any sign of Ollie?" Jade asks Charlie, keeping her voice low. Charlie shakes his head.

"He wasn't there when I got back to the room. His bed was empty. So was the bathroom. I also checked behind the curtains and under the beds. He was nowhere to be seen." Charlie explains.

"Who's Ollie?" Taylor asks from beside Jade.

"Ollie was our friend. Although, now I'm not quite sure whether he still is." I tell her. Just then, the tables fill with food and we forget the subject at hand and we begin piling our plates high. Today it's pancakes so I grab one crepe and 3 scotch pancakes. I spread butter on my crepe and then sprinkle sugar on it before rolling it up and sprinkling more sugar. I begin eating, using my spoon to cut the crepe into smaller pieces.

In between bites, I try to keep a conversation going. "So, Lewis. What year are you in?"

"I'm technically in my 1st year but I'm in 4th year." He says. I give him a confused look and he elaborates. "I'm in your year but I've only started coming here, this year." I nod in understanding and finish my pancakes. I reach into my bag and pull out my tablet to check what I have today.

"I've got  English, Maths,  Double Private Tutoring, then Languages, Free Choice, Therapy Sessions, Free Choice, Chores and then Free Time." I report.

"That's almost the same as me." Lewis says, checking his tablet. At least I won't be alone for most of my lessons like I was yesterday.

"Cool, I won't be alone like I was yesterday." I say, I put my cutlery down, signally me finishing. The plate disappears from in front of me and I smile. "Jade, Charlie, I think we should meet up as much as possible so we can finalise our plans. We won't have many chances for our plans to go ahead."

"What plans? Are you doing?" Taylor asks.

"You know how the school's closing down?" She nods. "Well we're planning on saving it. This school is important to everyone here so we're going to make sure that we don't lose the only place where we can be ourselves. Where we don't have to hide our powers."

"Can I help?" She asks, I nod.

"Sure, we could use all the help we can get. I mean, it's gonna be hard but I guess with the more people involved, the more chance that we can do it."

"I'll help too. I haven't even had a proper chance here, yet. So if there's a way to save the school so I can come back next year, I'll help in any way I can."

"Great. How about we meet in the school gardens at break time to discuss the plans?" I suggest. They all nod.

Just then the bell rings.

"See you at break time!" Taylor tells us before skipping off to her next class. Charlie and Jade walk off to their class and me and Lewis walk off to English.
