11. Chapter 11

When me and Jade returned to our room for Free Time before bed, I finally let loose all my thoughts, unfortunately in the two seconds that I hadn't seen Jade in the room, I forgot her which means she got the brunt of my thoughts.

"Ah!" Jade calls out, collapsing to the ground by her bed. With one hand she pulls herself onto the bed and buries her head in her hands. "Sally!" She manages to get out. I turn to her and see the pained look on her face. I suddenly realise what I'm doing and stopped thinking. I rush over to my best friend.

"Are you okay?" I ask.

"Yeah, I'm alright just don't think so hard. Ever." She warns. She sits up straight and looks at me. "But you're right though." I shoot my friend a confused look. "About not letting the school close."

"Oh. Well of course I'm right, I mean... when am I not?" I ask.

"Uh, always?" She replies, raising an eyebrow at me. "You just mind read people for the answers so you seem smarter." She has a point as that is what I do. Whenever there's a test, I just mind read people to see what a good answer is. Or that's what I did before I was moved to the 'Power Chamber' for my tests.

The 'Power Chamber' is a room where no one's powers work. So I can't read people's mind, make anything fly, send mind messages etc. Mostly the Power Chamber is used for things like detention but occasionally I go for tests so I can't 'cheat' as they call it. I call it thinking so far outside the box, I'm thinking in other people's boxes... If that makes sense.

"Whatever, that's just a minor flaw but I know I'm right about this. The school can't close. If it closes, we'll never master our powers and there's more chance that we'll uncover our world to the unknowing." I move to sit on my bed. A tap on the window, diverts mine and Jade's attention. We look to the glass and I make out two shadows. As my bed is closer to the window, I get up and walk over. I grab the handle and pull it up.

The two shadows tumble in as I open the window wide. Charlie and Ollie. I thought it'd be them. They sit up straight and look to see me and Jade staring at them. Charlie hops up while Ollie lies back and closes his eyes.

"Charlie, have you noticed that the girls' carpets are always so much softer than ours?" He asks.

"Yeah, that's cause I burn our carpets away in my sleep every year so the staff have given up replacing them." Charlie explains.

"Oh yeah," Ollie says in realization. "Could you stop doing that?" He asks, lifting his head from the floor to look at Charlie.

"Would if I could but I can't control my hands while I sleep." He replies, shaking his hands as if showing his hands off.

"Okay, as much as I love having you guys stinking up our room, if you're just here to chatter amongst yourself about our carpet, do it in your own room." I tell them, leaning against the inner window sill.

"Actually, we're here to talk to you." Ollie says, sitting up.

"Okay, then talk." Jade answers.

"What are you planning for the ending of school?"

"We're planning on saving it." I say, my voice confident and strong.

"Really?" Ollie asks in disbelief. "You? You're planning on saving this Hell hole? Why?"

"Because we want to master our powers?" I say, my voice questioning.

"But why? It's not like it'll be so bad if the school does close. It means that we can finally stay at home and have normal friends." He says.

"Ollie, we're dangerous if we don't know how to master our powers." I say, rising to stand at my full height. "Where do you think Charlie'd be if he wasn't here? He can't control the fire, no inexperienced bender can. If he never came here, he could be out on the streets because his parents may not have accepted his powers. If I wasn't here, I'd constantly be getting in trouble at school or I'd be in a mental hospital for hearing voices! And Jade, she could be experimented on because of her quick healing. Remember when she broke her arm and it healed in a day? What if that happened while she was in a school playground? She'd be taken away by people wanting to dissect her. So don't you go thinking that it'll be all fine if the school closes."

Ollie looks stunned. He stays silent but his thoughts go wild, thinking of a retort to reply with but when he sees the look on my face, he can tell that I heard everything.

"Get out Ollie. I don't want to look at you right now." I say harshly with a cold voice. Ollie stands up, an evil glare in his eyes.

"Fine. Come on Charlie." He says. But Charlie doesn't move. He stays standing at the end of Jade's bed. "Charlie, come on! Sally doesn't want us here." He spits out my name like a bad taste.

"No Ollie. She doesn't want you here. And I agree. This school is important. One of the best things that has ever happened to me is coming here and meeting you. Before I came here, everyone thought I was a freak. They isolated me and then I came here. I met you guys, and I felt like I finally had people I could trust and people I could call friends." Charlie says. "I'm staying here, I'm going to help save the school whether you want to help or not."

Ollie huffs and walks to the window, my glare never leaving him. I watch as he climbs out the window and shimmies along a pipe. I close the window and sit on my bed. Charlie lets out a breath.

"You okay?" Jade asks.

"Yeah, I'm fine." He replies. "Now, what's the plan?"
