3. Coconut Lotion

After we got inside of Louis' mansion, Cricket dropped her book-bag on the floor. "Lou, I'm home!"

I placed Louis' car keys on the table all the while not being able to keep my eyes off of her. She pulled her shoes off, toe to ankle and then peeled her knee-high socks off while hoping around on one foot. I smirked at her still childish behaviors, but from the conversation I just had with her, I knew she was anything but immature.

"Hey Crick!" Louis shouted still from the kitchen. Almost half an hour and still suffering in the kitchen. What was he planning to make anyways?

She ran up the stairs and I heard a door shut. Typical teenager, I've done the same. I headed back to the kitchen and watched Louis continue to struggle.

"Are you sure you don't need help?" I asked him again.

He exhaled loudly, "You've worked in a bakery before right?"

"Louis, come on."

"Good," he smiled. "Roll the croissants, will ya?"

"Sure," he handed me a bowl of sticky dough. "You've made them from scratch?"

"Of course," he shrugged. "That's the best way."

"Not saying it's not, but Lou, this is why it's taking forever to make one meal."

He placed his mixing spatula down and looked up at me. "This is a special dinner. Mum always make a special dinner whenever we finished school for the year. I would like to continue that tradition. Cricket has only been part of the family for two years and I won't disappoint her."

"Okay, understandable, but where is your mum anyway?"

"She and Jonathan, the new step dad are on some exotic vacation in Fiji for the summer."

"Yea, I thought they needed some alone time, so I booked and paid for it. My late wedding gift to them."

I wish I could give my mum and step-dad that type of luxury, but they're lucky if I send them a postcard from a new country I've been too. I believe the last thing I've ever spent money on--for the family of course--was, um, well...it doesn't matter.

Okay so it hurt not knowing what you actually bought your family, but then again I knew this was coming. Either I was loosing my memory from the drugs or going mad from not having paparazzi hanging on my doorstep.

That's right. I miss the flashing lights and people screaming my name. I haven't really been seen in public--not looking high, I mind you--for a couple months now, and it was driving me crazy. Of course, though Niall had paparazzi everywhere. Hell they were still hanging around his London and Irish flat! Even though they know he's been living in America! That's another story in itself and I rather not revisit the entire Niall/Shiloh/and I scandal again.

Instead I rather make a scandal of my very own...like not being high on a red carpet was enough. No, instead I need to make a big revelation, something the press will never see coming. I just need--.

"Harry? Harry, mate?"

"Yea? What?" I looked up at Louis. His hand was placed on my shoulder.

"You just zoned out."

"I have a lot of things on my mind."

"Hm," he grunted as he went back to chopping celery.

I started to roll the croissants, making them as perfect as I did back in that small bakery in Holmes Chapel. I started to get lost in my thoughts again, but I was awaken quickly from the cool sound of a voice, and the sweet smell of coconut lotion.

"I'm going swimming," Louis and I both turned behind us and saw Cricket in a bikini top and short jean shorts. Was she trying to give me a heart attack.

My mouth dropped open at her appearance, and I was caught staring.

"Dinner will be ready soon," said Louis.

"I'll be back and sitting at the table before we can starve on your cooking," she smirked.

"Ha ha, very funny," he rolled his eyes.

She smiled and before she turned away she stopped for just a second, letting my eyes scan hers. Her deep blue eyes. She turned away.

This was ridiculous. I'm here for holiday and a chance to regain my fame, not fall for some girl who calls Louis her step-brother. I need to stop this, before everything comes tumbling down.

"Haz?" I looked up from the hot pan of cooked croissants.

"Can you go get Cricket? She's still out there in the pool and dinner will be ready in thirty. The last thing I need is for chlorine to drip from her hair and into the food."

I gave him a small smile, "You sure you want me too?"

"Yea, why not? I trust you."

What? Whoa. Did he just say that he trusts me? No one ever trusts me anymore. "What?"

"Harry, the past is the past. I'm tired of thinking about it. I believe we just need to move on and remember who we once were. I'm tired of the band's hated relationship. I hate that Niall has separated himself from us, I hate that he only talks to Liam. I hate that Zayn is basically nonexistent to the world. It's not us, and truthfully I'm glad your here for the summer. Maybe we can all fix this problem and become a band again."

"I don't understand," I said as I removed the hot mittens from my hands. "You guys haven't been doing concerts or appearances?"

"Fuck no," he scoffed. Then he pulls a couple magazines out of a drawer from under the counter. "Everyone thinks Liam is going solo, Niall has retired, and Zayn is expected to enter a rehab facility in the next three months."

"This has all happened in less than a year?" I questioned. This couldn't be right. When I had my accused mental break down back in America a year ago, everything seemed in an uproar. That's why I decided to take some time away from the band, and that's also when I started to use and abuse morphine.

"Yea," he sighed. "Liam hasn't said a word about going solo, and I don't think he wants too. Niall comes visit every so often but now with the baby--.'

"What?!" I forced the word out of my mouth.

"Niall and Shiloh had a baby. Baby girl, I think her name is Maura."

"Why didn't I know about this?"

"Well Harry, we normally don't tell you anything about Shiloh. I mean not after the whole catastrophe in America."

"Ugh, I thought we were forgetting the past."

His eyes narrowed, "We are."

"So why am I kept in the dark?"

"You aren't--."

"Then why haven't I been told anything?"

"This is exactly why I take drugs, you all lie to my face and no one is ever there for me."

"HARRY!" Louis yelled. "You have separated yourself from us. We were willing to forgive and forget, but you stayed away and wanted nothing to do with us.'

"Don't blame this on me."

"I'm not," he said, raising his hands. "Just I wish I was there to help you, but with security and management they wanted to keep us distant."

"They are always the problem!" I was overreacting. I was letting the leftover drugs that rested in my bloodstream work their magic one last time. "They keep everyone separate, they don't let me do anything. All I want is someone there for me, Lou! I miss this, I miss telling you everything. I miss not having someone there."

"Harry, I was always there. You just had to pick up your mobile and call me. In all honesty, what I think you need more than me, is a girl. You need to have feeling that only she can give you."

"Sure I'm here, but it's summer Harry. Go find yourself a girl, who accepts you for you and someone you aren't paying."

"Ha yeah right."

He face turned to complete seriousness. "I mean it Harold." Whoa he hasn't called me that in forever. "I will not have prostitutes in my house. Which includes, strippers, whores, sluts, and anything else you might find on the street. I don't want Cricket exposed to that."

Something told me that she was already exposed to it, but I let it drift by. "Where?"

"You're in fucking Doncaster!" He said with a big smile. "I give you one trip into town, before you bring home someone."

"Hmm, maybe," it sounded resourceful, then my eyes drifted to the window which overshadowed the swimming pool. Cricket was drifting on her back, soaking in the sun.

"You'll do fine, mate," he smiled. "Now go get Cricket before I burn another chicken."

We laughed, before I turned and walked out onto the patio deck through the sliding French doors. I walked down the couple of stairs with my hands in my pockets. Coconut lotion filled the air with it's sticky and sweet smell. I got down to the pool and walked onto the wooden deck.

"Cricket," I said calmly, but no response.

I crouched down and took a handful of water. If I was correct, she was a good distance from being target approved. With a smile I flicked the water from my hand. She stood up quickly her Ray-Bans gliding down her nose.

"What the fuck?!" She shouted.

"Dinner is ready," I said as I stood straight again.

"Ugh, you didn't have to throw water," she started to swim closer to the edge, her strawberry blonde hair creating a pink affect in the water.

"I'm so sorry Your Highness," I said sarcastically.

"Wow, so your hot, fit, and a total dick."

"I'm glad you can read me so easily. Here," I said offering my hand for her.

"Thanks," she said as she grab hold. "For joining me."

"Wait, wha--?" I didn't get to question further because I was soon pulled into the pool. Once I arose from the water I heard laughing. Laughing coming from her perfect round mouth.

"Who actually helps someone out of a pool like that? You're such an idiot," she mussed. I rolled my eyes as I came closer and grab hold of her legs.

Her smile faded as she soon fell under the water. Once she came back up she sputtered water and hit me on the chest. "You're such an ass."

"I try my hardest," I smiled at her.

"Whatever." She swam back to the edge and pulled herself out of the pool and onto the wooden deck. I followed her and sat beside her. "That was totally unnecessary."

"You're the one who pulled me in first," I smoothed my hair back.

"Because your a dick." She stood up and went to her towel.

"You really have an awesome vocabulary."

"Really? I've been working real hard on it."

A small smile appeared on my lips. I stood up and looked at her, she was pulling the towel through her hair. "Alright, I'm sorry."

"I never asked for an apology," she smiled. "I don't believe in spoken apologies."

"What the hell are you talking about?" My hands tried to find their ways into my pockets, but sticky and wet wasn't the best of combinations so I just placed then awkwardly by my sides.

"I think every apology should have a physical sorry."

I was contracted by her spell. I was going under, and I don't think I'm gonna be rescued fast enough.

I noticed her stepping closer to me, the smell of coconut overwhelming but sweet. Delicious. I wanted to lick it off her body, feel her tremble beneath me.

Stop it, Harry.

I could start to see the even breaks in her pink lips and saw the fading freckles along her nose. How did she get so close?

I don't know what she was doing, but it was working.

She was so close, I could feel her breath lay on my cool chest.

"We should get back...for dinner."

I was the one who turned away. If this was a normal situation where I wasn't at Louis' mansion, it was Louis' step-sister, and I wasn't so high on drugs I probably would've kissed her--no I would definitely have kissed her. But this was different.

This was a new beginning and I was about to screw it up. Again.

I walked back to the patio first. Cricket was far behind me and I glanced back at her, noticing how her buttons to her shorts were still undone and how her wet hair fell evenly to both sides. She caught me looking and smiled.

Oh fuck. She has to know I'm not here for a relationship. Then I thought back to what Louis said--okay made a girl wouldn't hurt, especially since I haven't slept with a girl in ages--but she wasn't going to be the girl. I could never betray Louis like that. I could never take advantage of her. I could never touch her, I should never really look at her.

Like that was going to happen.

I opened the patio doors and a rush of cold air hit me. Summer. Air conditioning. "Damn, it's cold in here," I muttered.

"Is she coming?!" Louis shouted from the dining room, but I could hear him getting closer. "What the fuck happened to you?"

Cue Cricket. "Hey Lou, oh my gosh. Harry?! I thought you dried off?"

"What?" Louis asked.

What? That was the question.

"Harry fell into the pool, when he was coming to get me," she finished as she looked towards me.

She inclined forward, like it was my turn to complete the total lie coming from her mouth. "Oh, oh that's right. Dammit, Louis that wooden deck is slippery."

"Oh," he looked confused. "I'll get Martin to dry it off more regularly."

Please drop the subject, please drop the subject.

"You should have seen him go in, Lou!" Cricket shouted. "It was hilarious!"

Thanks Cricket.

Louis placed a dry smile on his lips. He didn't buy the story, and I didn't blame him. This was embarrassing.

"Both of you go get dressed," he said. "Cricket I'm sure you can show Harry the guest room?"

"Sure," she smiled. Fantastic. "Follow me."

So I followed her. Her natural smell of coconuts trailing behind her, filling me with arousal. Fuck.

I was so fucked.
