The Memior of Lynn: Junior Year

Lynn is almost done with high school. She just has to make it though the next two years and then she is off to travel the world and explore the wonderful world of college and life outside of Virginia. She thought she had it easy but she must have been horribly wrong because now nothing is going the way that she planned. He mothers cancer returned just when they both thought all of that was out of their lives forever.

Then she meets Adam Wilson. He is nice, listens to her, and is an awesome friend. But then things get more serious and she doesn’t know how to deal with it all.

This is a typical story about a teenage girl finding herself in a confusing place, something that everyone can relate too. I am positive that you all will love it!

“HEY!” Lynn couldn’t be happier to see Chadwick walk through her front door, bags in hand and a huge grin plaster across his lips at Lynn’s appearance as well. She took his bags from his hands and walked through her living room to set them onto the kitchen counter, the polite host she is. Once she did so, she turned around and pulled Chadwick in an embrace. She felt his fingers trace their way down her spine, sending shivers through her body and she felt her body step back. Her face grew hot as she embarrassed herself by doing this, but she managed a semi- quiet cough and skipped over to the cabinet across the kitchen, grabbing two glasses and filling them with her mom’s sweet tea.

“Thanks,” he said as he grabbed her offering of sweet tea and chugged the first half of the liquid down in less than two seconds. Lynn smiled and she watched him. She felt herself giggle faintly as she examined Chadwick’s bodily features. He stood in front of Lynn wearing plaid, pajama pants that sagged to the floor as dirt stuck to the ends of the fabric. His hair was a chestnut brownish color that made his dark, brown eyes pop even more through his thick lensed glasses with brown trim.

Chadwick was Lynn’s best friend and has been ever since the first day that they met last year at summer camp. She can remember the day as if it were just happening this very second. It was a camp dedicated to helping cancer patients survive and her mom had forced her to go when Lynn had not really wanted to in the first place. Lynn is glad that she did go, however. When she walked up to the picnic table that lay just beyond the cabins they were to spend their nights in. Chadwick was sitting at the table and when Lynn happened to walk up, he had introduced himself on the spot. She can remember the grip he had on her hand as they shook in greeting each other.

“I have missed you so much.” Lynn said, knowing that she had tons to say but not knowing at all where to start. She felt her hands clench together into tight balls the more she thought about how nervous she seemed to be at the given moment.

“So, what have you been up to since we last talked.”

“We talked last night, Chad.” She smiled and he returned the favor.

“A lot could have happened since then.” He said with a small smirk across his lips still. Lynn has recently started to notice that he always seems to look at Lynn in this fashion. He smirks at her in a way that makes her blush a bright red and if his eyes could talk, they would say a thousand words about her beauty. That is why Lynn liked hanging out with Chadwick, because he made her feel special without even trying that hard. Better yet, Lynn never felt the need to try too hard herself. She has always just been her ever since they first met.

“Well, I woke up really early, cleaned the house, took a shower, and danced around the house with music blasting as I awaited your arrival. That is all I did today.” Lynn said, thinking though her day of unimportance.

“Where is everyone else?” He looked around the room as if they were to appear at any given moment.

“My mom has some doctor’s appointment that is supposed to last the whole afternoon and then she is having dinner with my dad. He is with her. My brother went to a friend’s house because he didn’t want to be stuck here all night with just us.” Lynn laughed as she replayed the past conversation with her brother just a couple hours ago before he had left.

“Why was your brother like that? We aren’t that bad together I think.” He seemed a bit disappointed that Lynn’s brother was a no show.

“You don’t want to know his reasoning.” Lynn just continued to laugh to herself.

“Yes. Yes I do, Lynn.” He crossed his arms over his chest, demanding her appropriate response.

“It is really not that big of a deal,” He stood there, arms still crossed, and stared at her, “He thinks that we are going to have sex. All night. He didn’t want to be around to hear that, but it is not as if he has anything to worry about, right?” Lynn laughed a nervous laugh. Chadwick’s eyes seemed to widen a bit, either out of surprise and excitement or disgust. Lynn was afraid to know which the correct expression was.

“Of course not,” He hesitated before responding and abruptly turned to the two bags he had brought, pulling items out one by one as he called them out, “So, I have brought us some scary movies, green tea, Oreo’s and peanut butter, and of course, my computer.” Lynn continued to smile at him.

“Wow. You came prepared, didn’t you?”

               “As always.”

Lynn didn’t have the slightest clue as to what movie was playing at the moment. All she knew was that the movie was of the horror genre, she was acting her fear, and her cheek nestled the nicest when on Chadwick’s chest. The slow movement of oxygen inhaling and exhaling from his lungs soothed Lynn in a way she could not describe. She felt like she was at complete serenity. This was a different feeling from when she was with Adam. Chadwick was Lynn’s friend and whenever they were together, all of her troubles disappeared as if dust in the wind. She could forget about everything bad about her life and just enjoy the Zen feeling of the air that currently surrounded them. This was different from the feeling she got from being with Adam. To be honest, Lynn liked it way better with Chadwick actually. She didn’t feel like she had to force herself upon him just to get him to look in her direction. She didn’t have to do anything the slightest from the ordinary to keep him interested. She just had to be herself. Lynn knows that it is weird for someone like herself to have such a good person in her life and she wonders why she was even blessed with this in the first place. Lynn didn’t deserve his kindness, she felt, but she wasn’t going to tell him that. She wasn’t going to question it. She was going to enjoy it while it lasted.

All the junk food Chadwick had brought over to Lynn’s house now scattered the floor, the plastic wrap and crumbs covering ever inch. Lynn groaned to herself at the thought of having to clean it all up later, but she didn’t care. It was worth it. Loud music blasted which made Lynn’s body jump and she felt Chadwick’s hands, as well as the muscles in his chest, clench as they were caressing her shoulders.

“My stomach hurts.” Lynn said, midst the silence of the room.

“That is probably because you ate all the Oreo’s.”

“I didn’t eat every single one. Did I?” Lynn’s eyes wandered up towards Chadwick’s eyes as she talked.

“Lynn, I probably got, like, three before you swatted my hand away like some animal.”  Lynn sat up at this statement, appalled.

“You are just jealous that I got more than you.” Lynn bites her lip to hide the laughter threatening its way out. She didn’t want to look stupid in front of Chadwick.

“I am not going to sit here and fight with you over cookies. Let’s finish the movie.” He crossed his arms over his chest and focused his attention to the television screen, pretending to ignore Lynn at all costs.

“Oh, you can’t ignore me forever.” She poked his stomach with her single index finger as she talked and giggled as Chadwick leaked his smile. When his gaze moved to Lynn, she wrapped herself around him, as if to engulf herself into his abdomen as much as she possibly could. Lynn couldn’t really explain why she felt so happy when she was with Chadwick. All she knew was that being with him made her the happiest.

“I could never do that.” His lips lightly brushed against her cheek and soon she found herself sitting atop his lap as her legs wrapped themselves more and more about his body. She could feel the same with Chadwick’s arms, wrapping themselves around her sides and to her back, which pushed their bodies even closer together.

“I like hugging you.” She heard herself say and Chadwick’s grip only got tighter.

“Me too.” He said to her.

The one thing that bothered Lynn the most was the fact that this was probably the last time for a while when she would be able to do this. Chadwick lived hours away from Lynn and that is probably what she hated the most about their friendship. It was weird to know that Chadwick and Lynn had met on the slim chance they both were forced to go to the same camp on the same year, just like it was weird to know that Chadwick’s life was exactly the same as hers. His mother was sick as well, same sickness and same life that haunted him daily. Lynn feels that is why they are so connected. Chadwick knows exactly what it is like when it comes to her mother. He knows exactly what it feels like to have to be strong for everyone else and what it feels like to feel so alone in all of this.

Lynn knew that Chadwick felt the same way by the way he hugged her. It was kind of like a hug with more feeling by the way he always wrapped his arms tighter and tighter around her body every second that lasted in this embrace and by the way his breathing exhaled out from his lips in a way that felt his troubles were easing away from him. She felt all of this just by hugging him. Lynn knew she didn’t have much time with him, and she was determined to make the best of this feeling.
