The Memior of Lynn: Junior Year

Lynn is almost done with high school. She just has to make it though the next two years and then she is off to travel the world and explore the wonderful world of college and life outside of Virginia. She thought she had it easy but she must have been horribly wrong because now nothing is going the way that she planned. He mothers cancer returned just when they both thought all of that was out of their lives forever.

Then she meets Adam Wilson. He is nice, listens to her, and is an awesome friend. But then things get more serious and she doesn’t know how to deal with it all.

This is a typical story about a teenage girl finding herself in a confusing place, something that everyone can relate too. I am positive that you all will love it!

The final bell of the day rang, and Lynn suddenly got hit with sharp pains in her sides. She didn’t do anything about them though because she knew that she was just really nervous about her afternoon ahead of her. She walked to her locker to gather her needed books for the weekend, not noticing when Michael and Rae walked up to her because her stomach was really starting to bother her. She closed her eyes, and took deep, heavy breathes, oblivious to her friends watching her.

“Are you ok?” Rae asked, placing a single hand onto Lynn’s shoulder, making her jump just a tad.

“Yeah. I just have these pains in my stomach.” Rae and Michael just smiled at her, their eyes filled with happiness.

“Why are you two looking at me like that for?” Lynn asked, confused.

“Oh nothing.” Michael said.

“You like him! And he liked you! And you like each other!” Lynn rolled her eyes as she closed her locker, threw her back pack over her right shoulder, and turned to start walking down the hall that led outside. Rae and Michael followed up beside her once they got outside and Lynn was happy to be hanging with her friends for once and not stuck at home with her drugged mother and the many mood swings that followed, but she couldn’t help but wonder where Adam wandered off to. She hadn’t really seen him all day. Actually, she never really sees him at all throughout her schedule, her being in AP classes and him in regular.

“I wonder where Adam went off to.” She said in a whisper, more to herself than her friends, but then she realized that she had said it out loud when her friends answered.

“I am sure he is fine.” Rae said.

“Yeah, he probably had to meet with a teacher or something. You did say that he is in regular right?” Michael asked.

“Well yeah, but…”

“Well, then that means that he really isn’t that smart.” Lynn felt offended and playfully slapped his shoulder.

“Hey! I was just trying to make you feel better.” He said to her with that big warming smile of his. It was cold outside, and by the time they three friends got to the pizzeria, Lynn couldn’t even feel her fingers anymore. It was as if her hands weren’t even there so she started with slapping her hands against her legs to try and get the feelings back, as if that would actually help. Michael noticed this and just smiled at her.

“Your finger numb too? Here,” He took her hands and intertwined their fingers together. Lynn looked over at Casey and did the same with her. At least now their hands were regaining feeling, somewhat, and once she walked inside and saw Adam leaning, nonchalant, against the corner of the wall that stuck out a distance from the door and smile over at her, she felt her whole body go warm with a sensation that she had never felt before. It felt as if the bright, warm sun that comes up each day in the morning came up inside her heart instead. When she smiled big, he did the same and she could see that he was a bit nervous by the quick glance he shot to the floor when they locked eyes. That only made her smile even more and she even jumped up and down a little with excitement, but Rae saw her excitement and calmed her down a little before Lynn embarrassed herself before the night even started.

“Why don’t we just sit down?” Rae suggested and then skipped on over to a booth that was right next to the kitchen door. Lynn aimed to sit next to Rae. She couldn’t handle sitting next to Adam for that long amount of a time, but when she went to sit down next to Rae, Michael just picked her up and sat down underneath her instead, lightly pushing her towards the other side of the table towards Adam. She stood there, looking awkward once she was standing next to the vacant seat next to Adam. She wanted to sit there. In fact, she wanted to sit as close as possible to him and never leave that spot ever again, but she had to control herself.

“Can I have to inside?” Lynn asked, her voice getting quiet with nervousness. He looked up at her with those big, brown eyes that got her confused in the head and didn’t realize when he was standing behind her and ready for her to take her seat. Once he placed his hand on the small of her back to gently nudge her in the right direction, she snapped back to reality and rushed into the seat across from Rae. Once she sat down she look over at Rae and gave her the are-you-kidding-me look of embarrassment and the table was silent until the waitress came over to their table and asked for their orders.

“Can we just have a large cheese pizza, please, with four waters?” Rae ordered for them after debating on what to get, and they all nodded with approval. Once the waitress got the order and left, the table was silent once again. Lynn could feel her face turning the bright red color it usually does when she gets nervous when Michael and Rae just sat there and smiled at them both, which only made the situation eve more awkward and nervous setting.

Lynn’s whole body was sweating and her face was a bright, crimson red out of nervousness. Why was she so nervous all of a sudden? It is not as if she were doing anything bad. All she was doing was sitting right next to him, their arms brushing against each other, them being so close to each other and all. The whole booth was as silent as nightfall, until Rae decided to speak up.

“You know what I really want to do?” Rae asked as if to start up a conversation.

Thank God, Lynn thought to herself.

“What is that?” Lynn asked, a smile appearing on her face at Rae’s randomness.

“I want to travel to Europe. “ Everyone just looked at her, but Lynn smiled. She could always count on her to save the conversation with her randomness.

“You know, that actually sounds like a lot of fun. We should totally plan that.”Lynn said.

“Where would we get the money for all of that?” Michael asked, curious.

“I don’t know. We could figure it out. Money is just an object.” Lynn said.

“An object hard to come by.” Adam said, his deep voice quiet.

“Oh stop being such a downer.” Lynn playfully slapped Adam on the shoulder closest to her and he laughed, smiling that cute smile of his right at her. He grabbed her hand so she wouldn’t be able to do it again.

“Don’t hit me.” He said, sort of messing with her, or at least she thinks so by the way he has a small smirk perked on the corner of his lips. There was a split second where she almost got lost in his eyes, but something stopped her. She could just sit there and look at his deep, brown eyes forever and infinity, but she didn’t. He did let go of her hand so she just stared at his lips in a daze, to avoid his eyes. For a second they both forgot about Rae and Michael sitting across from them and just a few feet away at that. Their noses brushed and they instantly pulled apart once the waitress appeared with their food , Lynn’s face filled with embarrassment.

“Here you go. One large cheese pizza and four waters.” The waitress set the large pile of cheese and doe in the middle of table and gave each of us out plates before going to leave.

“Oh wait,” Lynn stopped her before she got too far out of reach.

“Yes?”

“Can I have some ranch? Like, a lot of it? Please?” Everyone looked at her with blank expressions.

“Yes,”the waitress said with a small giggle of amusement. She then preceded to walk away and came back a few moments later with a small, plastic bowl filled to the brim with ranch dressing. Adam, Rae, and Michael were still watching her as she then pour the ranch atop her slice of cheese.

“What? I like ranch on my pizza. Can’t eat it without it.” She cut a piece and stuck the corner of the pizza into her mouth and took a bite, then looked over at Adam to find him hold back a huge smile.

“You’re weird.” At that instant she realized that she was embarrassing herself and set the pizza back down on the table and just sat there, but before she could say anything in return at all, she felt something grip her hands, placed ever so in her lap. It was his hand. His fingers intertwine with hers and he scooted closer. Lynn looked up to see if Michael and Rae were watching their every inch of a move, but they weren’t even acknowledging their presence. She smiled and nudged her face into his neck and all of the worry inside her body instantly disappeared and was replaced with the warmth of his body. As she closed her eyes, she felt on top of the world, no worries at all. She tightened the grip around his hand, and he did the same. She smiled, and soon after a faint moan escaped his lips and she lifted her head before Rae and Michael noticed. He scooted even closer and she did the same and soon it wasn’t just their fingers that were intertwined together, but their arms as well and their legs too. Michael and Rae didn’t seem to notice.

They spent the whole dinner in that fashion, Lynn and Adams arms and legs twisted together in ways that seemed impossible to pull apart. Michael and Rae didn’t say anything of it the whole time either and after they all paid for their part in the dinner and gathered their stuff, Adam and Lynn both walked out the restaurant holding hands. Lynn has never been so happy before in her life.

That wasn’t the end of it, though, and Lynn was very surprised when Adam pulled her into his big, warm arms. Their bodies pressed together and, aside from the warmth that Lynn felt, she also felt something else that she has never felt before. It was something more than warmth. Something more than just their bodies pressed together, but she just couldn’t think up the correct terminology at the time due to the lack of air getting to her brain and lungs. It felt similar to that feeling a person gets when one drinks that first sip of tea after playing outside in the snow all day, ice cold and frozen. It fills the body with warmth and a true happiness that doesn’t even feel real. Like a dream. Like a fantasy. Like anything that isn’t truly real. It is just a feeling that the soul gets.

Rae and Michael walked out the door ahead of the two, just standing in each other’s arms as if they were one person instead of two. Adam saw this as his chance, and grabbed it as if it were a leaf blowing in the wind, careless and free. He pulled her up, her feet stretching out so all that was beneath her were her toes and her arms wrapping around his neck to hold her body up in such a fashion, and he pull her lips to his. Their lips met and Lynn’s cheeks flooded with a crimson red that didn’t even seem a color possible for a human to form. As soon as it happened, it was over. They pulled away and just looked up at each other and smiled.
