3. Home and Snow

Liam P.O.V

My plane landed and I was now waiting for my father, Geoff, to come get me. I am starting to get nervous that a few people might recognise me even with my hood drawn down to cover my face. My eyes scan the crowd searching for the familiar sight of my dad. 10 minutes late, he is never late. I pull out my phone and search my contacts for his number, when I found it I pressed the call button and held it up to my ear and waited.

Geoff: Hello?

Me: Hey dad, where are you?

Geoff: I am trying to find somewhere to park

Me: How bout I meet you out the front

Geoff: That might be easier. You’re a smart boy, you know that right

Me: I know. I’ll see you soon

Geoff: Okay, bye son

Me: bye dad

The call ended and I started to make my way outside. A few minutes later I stepped out into the fresh air, breathing in the smell of home. I looked up and down the road and couldn’t see my dad’s car. I decide to wait a few minutes; it doesn’t take long until I can see the car round the corner. The car drives around and pulls to a stop in front of me. I smile to myself before opening the door and getting in. As I put my seat belt on, I look over and see my father’s smiling face, I have missed the my family so much over the past few months. I am so glad to be home.

Geoff: Welcome home Liam

Me: Glad to be back

Geoff: How was the tour?

Me: Fantastic

Geoff: How are the other boys?

Me: They’re happy to be going home

Geoff: So their doing fine by the sound of it

Me: Yeah. Dad, can I ask you something?

Geoff: Of course son, anything

Me: Who exactly are these guests?

Geoff: Well, your mother has invited her best friend from school over for the holidays. Her name is Stacey, you met her years ago when you were only a few months old. We haven’t seen her since then which was the day of her eldest daughter’s christening.

Me: Is it just her?

Geoff: No, she also brought her daughter along; I think her name was Matilda, or maybe Mattie. It was so long ago, I can’t quite remember. I do know it is something like that.

Me: Where are they from?

Geoff: A small town in Australia

We talked about this the whole ride home, for some reason I was intrigued by Stacey and her daughter. I wanted to know more about them, they seemed like really nice people. About 10 minutes later we pulled to a stop outside the house. Dad and I got out, he insisted on helping me carry my luggage even thought I told him I was perfectly capable of doing that myself. We walked to the front door, the ground was covered in snow but I didn’t mind, I was used to it. As my father was opening the door something caught my eye. It was a small pile of snow that had a well at the centre, looks like someone fell in, I hope they weren’t hurt.

I followed my father inside into the warm cosy house, I think my mother might have lit the fire. I leave my bags at the foot of the stairs before following going into the living room. I found my mother and another woman who I guess was Stacey. She had short blonde hair, blue eyes, and a warm friendly smile. She seemed nice enough. Stacey and my mother were both drinking coffee and were in a deep conversation. I walked over to my mother, when she saw me, she put down her cup of coffee and gave me the biggest hug ever. It was like she hadn’t seen me in months which she hadn’t.

I squeezed back before she let go and looked right into my eyes.

Karen: Liam, its so good to have you home.

Me: It’s wonderful to be home.

Karen: oh, I’ve missed you so much sweetie

Me: I’ve missed you too mum

Karen: Liam, this is my old friend Stacey. She will be staying with us for the next few weeks.

Me: It’s lovely to meet you Stacey

Stacey: Look at you. Last time I saw you, you were only a little bub. You have grown up so big

Me: Thanks

I don’t know why but it always feels strange when I talk to someone that I have never met before but as it turns out knew me when I was little. I find it kind of uncomfortable but I don’t let my discomfort show. I decide to go pack my things away just so I could have an excuse to leave the room.

Me: I’m going to unpack

Karen: Okay

Stacey and Karen started up their conversation where they left off and I walked back to the stairs. Once there I grabbed my bags and hauled them to my room, which is the third on the left. I opened the door and put my bags down on my bed. I looked around, it was the same as I had last seen it only a little messier. Brit must have gotten in here, that crazy pup, I wonder where he has gotten to.

As an answer to my question I hear a small bark coming from the yard. I walked to my window which has a great view of the yard, I look outside and I see a girl. She is standing out there in the snow with nothing on her arms, she had her arms raised and was slowly walking in circles around the yard. And jumping around her was Brit. I watched for a few more seconds, finding this quite amusing. You would think that she has never seen snow before.

I notice a small bit of ice on the ground not to far from where she is, it appears that she hasn’t seen it yet. Slowly she gets closer to the ice. Her foot lands on the ice and suddenly she falls to the ground, the snow would be quite deep so of course I couldn’t see her. Brit did the smart thing and move out of the way when she fell but at the moment he was back at the hole in the ground with his head poking down, like he’s looking for her. I wait a few seconds but she doesn’t come up. I start to get worried, really worried. I notice some of the snow under Brit’s paws falling away, then the bottom half of the hole caved in. Uh Oh, she might be trapped under there.

I race out of my room and down the stairs. I had to hurry, I didn’t know why but I just knew that I had to keep her safe. I flew out the back down and I arrived to the hole that she made. I knelt down beside it and saw her lying there.
