Mind Of The Abyss

Maddy was looking forward to her first white christmas in London. Her mother came to spend the holiday with her old childhood friends and Maddy tagged along. After a fatal accident, she survived only by sheer luck. Now she's trapped inside the black abyss that has become her mind, a prisoner inside an empty shell. Can her new friends shed some light into her mind, pulling the real her out of the dark.

I am walking through the airport, my mother wants to go visit an old friend who lives in England. I could’ve stayed behind with my dad but after my mother and he got the divorce I rarely ever see him. You see, my mother used to live in Wolverhampton. That is the same for her best friend, Karen. They grew up together. Karen found her true love in high school, his name was Geoff Payne. He and Karen were dating for a few years, before my mother moved to Australia which was a year after they all graduated. My mother met my father and they settled down. My mother and Karen tried to stay in touch with each other, but the last time my mother saw her best friend was when Karen and her family came to my christening. Karen and Geoff have three children, Nicole, Ruth and Liam. They were all there, even though Liam was only a few months old. I only remember these because my mother told me about it a few years ago when I found a picture of all of us together. And after that, they lost touch and never spoke to each other again.

My parents decided to get a divorce earlier this year. It was a tough time for everyone, mostly me and my little brother and sister, Jake and Kelly who live with my Dad. Jake is 13 and Kelly is 10. A few months ago I had to stay with my father for a few days because my mother was going to her school reunion in Wolverhampton. I don’t know what happened exactly but here I am boarding a plane on my way to Wolverhampton.

My mother and I walk to our seats and I get the one beside the window. I wonder what these people are like. I put my earphones in my ears and turn on my IPod. I play my favourite album from start to finish. And yes, I’m a huge fan of One Direction, and my favourite album just happens to be their new album Take Me Home. I lay my head against the back of the chair and slowly dose off with the music playing. I can’t wait until we land.

The boys and I just finished our last show before our well-earned break. The boys and I were planning on visiting our families back home. I couldn’t wait to see my mother again. My two older sisters, Nicole and Ruth had already moved out so sadly I wouldn’t be seeing much of them. Together the boys and I ran backstage to get changed for the final time before going to the airport to fly home. We finished changing, and walked out to the black sedan that was waiting for us at the back of the arena. We quickly jumped in hoping that we weren’t seen by any fans, lucky for us we weren’t. we already put our luggage in the back of the car before the concert started so we wouldn’t have to go back to the hotel to get it. The ride to the airport just like any ride, Louis being a clown as always.  This time he stole Harry’s phone and wouldn’t give it back. Harry was trying to get it back but failed. We couldn’t stop laughing when Lou jumped onto Harry, that naughty boy, he took off his seatbelt. I really wanted to tell him to put his seatbelt back on but it was so funny, I couldn’t stop laughing.

In no time at all we arrived at the airport. We got out of the car with Paul close behind. Paul led us each to our gates, he wouldn’t let us go alone because of all the fans that are floating around here. The first of us to leave was Niall, we said our goodbyes and hoped that the plane had enough food. Next was Zayn, then Louis and Harry. I really would miss all the boys but we will see each other again one day.

Paul and I sat in the lounge to wait for my flight, as it turned out it was running a bit late. RING RING. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and saw that it was my mum calling, I quickly answered it, I hadn’t talked to her for a couple of weeks now and I really wanted to know how she was, I have really missed my family

Me: Hi mum!

Karen: Hello baby, how’s the tour going?

Me: Great, we actually just got to leave for our break. The other boys have already left and I am waiting on my plane. So I should be home in a couple of hours.

Karen: Wonderful. Liam, I have something to tell you!

Me: What is it?

Karen:  By the time you get home, we will have guests over for Christmas.

Paul: Liam!

I looked up at Paul, wondering what he wanted. I moved my phone away from my ear, so I could hear Paul but also hear what my mum had to say, if she started speaking again.

Me: Yes Paul?

Paul: Your flight is boarding

Me: Oh, thank you

I put the phone back up to my ear to finish talking to my mother.

Me: Hey mom

Karen: Yes sweetie

Me: My plane just arrived, so I’ll see you soon

Karen: Okay Liam, have a safe flight

Me: I will, love you mom

Karen: I love you too.

I ended the call, put my phone back in my pocket and started walking towards my gate. I couldn’t help but wonder who these mystery guests were. I hope that they weren’t using my mother to get to me. Silently I begged that these were kind people. I boarded my plane and took a seat in the first class compartment. It wasn’t long before the plane took off and we were in the air. I was supposed to be excited about going home and believe me I was but I couldn’t stop thinking about the guests.
