9. Events In London

Maddy P.O.V

The next day we all jump into Karen’s car, Mum and Karen up front with Karen driving, and Me and Liam in the back. Karen and Mum are busy talking and pointing out things of interest as we race past them.

Earlier that morning at breakfast, Karen came up to Liam and Me and told us that we were taking a road trip to London. She then told us to hurry up and get ready cause we had to leave by 8, that way we could spend more time there before we leave London at 4.

I was so excited. I have always wanted to see London, it’s one of the many places that I want to go before I die. I quickly finished by breakfast and raced upstairs to have a shower and get ready. I could not contain my excitement, I was so excited that I almost tripped going up the stairs. Luckily Liam was close behind, so he grabbed my arm to stop me falling. “I know you’re excited but you need to be more careful.” He said with a teasing smile, he ruffled my already messy hair and continued up the stair with me behind him this time. He purposefully walked slowly so I couldn’t go as quickly as I liked. I guess that was because he didn’t want me to get hurt. Which was so sweet of him but it was also irritating cause I really wanted to get going and spend the day in London with Liam.

We finally got to the top of the stairs and we walked into our own rooms, mine being Nicole’s. I still can’t get over the fact that it is so pink. I hurry so I could beat Liam to the bathroom, I grab my dressing gown and towel and race to the bathroom but Liam has already beaten me there. “You’ll just have to wait till I get out” he teases, “But you take so long, and it’s hard not to think that you’re a girl” I tease back. He chuckles before  closing the door, but not before his comeback. “Well, the jokes on you princess, because you are a girl, and you take longer than Louis, Harry, Niall, and Zayn all put together!”.

I guess that I will have to wait, since there is no other bathroom upstairs and the one downstairs doesn’t have a shower. Plus I really don’t want to go down the stairs just to come back up soon after. So I sit and wait outside the bathroom door.

After about 15 minutes, Liam comes out with a towel wrapped around his waist, leaving his torso uncovered. His abs and biceps sparkling from the small stream of water than was running down from his hair., no wonder girls went crazy for him, he’s a hot, sweet guy with an amazing body. He smiled when he saw me sitting there. “Did I take too long” he teased.

“Yeah, I almost fell asleep while waiting for you” I said while getting up to my feet. Being my old clumsy self I almost fell over, I knew I wouldn’t fall, but Liam held my arm till I was steady anyway. “Thanks”

“No problem, clumsy”. Liam let go of my arm and went into his room to put some clothes on. I stepped into the bathroom, water condensation covered the mirror, steam still filled the room. I quickly hopped in, the hot water pounding on my head and shoulders, pouring down my body.

Once I felt clean, I got out, wrapped a towel around me and bundled my hair up in another towel. While I was there I decided that I might as well brush my teeth. I then went to my room, decided on my outfit (white long sleeved crop top, black skinny jeans, black boots and hat), actually got dressed, dried and brushed my hair, and did my makeup. Once done I sat on the rail and slid down the stairs, meeting Liam at the bottom. “Slow down speedy” he said, taking my hand and leading me out to the car. I was sure that if he wasn’t there I would have slipped on the ice again. We got in and Karen got the car started, we were finally on our way to London. Liam and I talked, listened to music, played games, and napped a little on the way there. I couldn’t wait, we were going to go everywhere, see everything, do everything.

A couple of hours after we left, we arrived London, I felt like a little kid again, staring out the window looking at everything. Liam was right next to me, pointing things of interest out to me. Karen parked the car outside of the apartment that the boys share, for whenever they are staying in London. Karen and Mum went to see the markets and shops. Liam and I wondered everywhere, we saw the National Gallery, We rode the London Eye, we went to see the wax figures at Madam Tussauds. We explored the city.

At 2 we decided to go ice skating. “Have you ever been skating before, Maddy?” Liam asked as he stepped out onto the ice. He skated over to the side of the rink to wait for me.

“Once or twice” I replied as I carefully stepped onto the ice. Slowly, and very shakily I made it over to Liam at the side.

Liam looked out to the centre of the rink, then back at me. Our eyes connected and he smiled sweetly. He glided out a little way, holding his hand out to me. “Hold my hand, I promise, I won’t let you fall”

Liam P.O.V

“Hold my hand, I promise, I won’t let you fall” I watched her as she searched my eyes, determining whether I was telling he truth or not. She must have decided to trust me, cause she carefully skated over to me and I took her hand in mine. Gently I pulled her til she was at my side. Not letting go of her hand, we started skating around the rink. Maddy was a bit shaky at first but once she got the hang of it, she was really good. Even when she started to skate on her own, I kept my promise and didn’t let go of her hand.

After we returned our skates, it was time for us to leave. I opened the door for Maddy, and as soon as we stepped outside we were bombarded with the flashing lights of many cameras. Someone must have told the paparazzi about my whereabouts. I looked down at Maddy, she was trying to shade her eyes from the bright flashes that just kept coming and coming. She turned her head away from the cameras and looked at me. From just that one look I could tell that she was scared. My guess, she wasn’t used to this much attention, or that many cameras. I promised to myself that I would get her out of here and keep her safe. I quickly grabbed her hand and pushed my way through the paparazzi, I kept Maddy close at my side. Once we got out from the centre of the surrounding paps, still holding Maddy’s hand, we ran. We ran as fast as we could, of course the paps were following us; we needed somewhere to hide.

I led Maddy around the corner, onto a street that I knew really well. We ran to the really small alleyway that was hidden there. Nearly everyone didn’t bother to acknowledge it was there. Together we went into the alley, we continued until we reached the end, a wall with a couple sheets of tin leaning against it.

“Great! We’re trapped! They’ll catch us for sure!” A hint of fear and doubt had entered her voice, it was small and hidden but it was unmistakably there.

I turned around, took both her hands in mine and looked into her eyes. Not allowing her to look away. I saw the uncertainty in her eyes.

“Maddy, do you trust me?”

“Of course but-“

“Yes or no, Do you completely trust me? Would you trust me with your life?”

She pauses for a moment but surely continues.

“Yes. I trust you. This isn’t going to kill me is it?”

“No it’s not”

I wrapped my arms around her, and gave her a comforting hug, she relaxed and hugged me back.

“So, how do we ditch these bitches?” She sounded much more confident, ready to take them on, and escape unharmed.

“Like this” I went over and removed a sheet of tin that concealed a hole in the wall. “The boys and I sometimes use a passage like this to escape from the paparazzi all the time. And once or twice from Paul.”

She laughed at that, I knew it would.

“You know, I feel kinda sorry for Paul”

“Why?” I looked at her, completely confused. She had bit of a cheeky grin on her face.

“Because, he is stuck having to babysit 5 idiots who are constantly trying to make his job much harder that it has to be” And with that she got down and went through the hole, into the alley on the other side. I followed her through, replacing the tin to hide the hole again.

After we were both through, we ran the rest of the way, back to where we left the car. Mum and Stacey were already there waiting for us. They were leaning against the car, arms crossed and drinking their coffees from Starbucks, “What took you two so long? Did something happen? Are you okay?” Stacey started to sound worried, obviously she was concerned for her daughter’s safety.

“It’s okay Mum! We’re fine!”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, we are fine”

From the look on Stacey’s face, I don’t think she believed us, but at least she is contempt with the fact that we made it back safe and sound.

Maddy P.O.V

Our day in London was over and it was time to go back to Liam’s. He climbed into the car, and Karen started driving. Today was so much fun, the best day of my life so far. What made it even special was that I got to spend the whole day with Liam. We both glanced over at each other, smiled like idiots trying to supress our giggles over the events of the day. Whenever I looked at Liam, I got this funny feeling in my stomach, at first it confused me but I had read many stories before where the girl gets a strange feeling about a boy and it usually turns into love. But life isn’t a fairy tale or romantic novel where the girls gets the boy who is way out of her league, I of all people should know that.

On we drove, to the outskirts of the city, the country side starting to come into view. I looked out the window again, to watch the trees race past the window in a blur. Karen jerked the wheel, sending me crashing back into Liam’s side. Liam leaned over to the front to ask his mum what happened, while I went back to gazing out the window. It all happened so fast, but a dark sedan was hurtling towards us at a speed that I didn’t think was possible, there wasn’t enough time to alert anyone before the driver cut in front of us, only centimetres away from a collision. Only for an instant, I thought I was something familiar to me, something that has only cause trouble for me and my friends in the past. It was so quick that I wasn’t sure that it was real. Karen turned the wheel to try and prevent us from colliding. She lost control of the wheel and we were being thrown about in the back. Karen was trying to bring the car back under control, but her movements were a bit too jerky, sending us flying one way one moment then the other the next. Karen must have turned too hard because the car started rolling, I was sent flying into the window, with Liam thrown against me pushing me harder against the glass. A searing pain shot through me, but I didn’t have time to deal with it cause the car seemed to fly 10 feet above the ground before crashing back down to earth, with its passengers hanging upside down like you would on a thrill ride. I sat there with my eyes closed, trying to calm my racing heartbeat and breathing, fighting not to let the immense pain force me into unconsciousness. For I was certain, that if I slipped into unconsciousness I actually might die.

Amid all the pain that seemed to subdue all my other senses, I still managed to feel someone grab hold of my hand, “Maddy!?” the fear and concern was clear in the voice that quietly echoed around my head. Even in my oblivious state, Liam’s voice bounced around the inside of my voice. The pain must have been showing on my face, the pain was so intense that I didn’t think that I could hide it. “Maddy, please, please hold on, we will be okay!” even now he was trying to comfort me, assuring me that everything would be okay. His voice was quivering , he was scared and hurt, uncertain about what will happen.

I could feel myself slowly slipping away, but I wasn’t going to give up that easy, I wasn’t ready for my life to end. Trying to find my strength which was ebbing away more quickly now, I struggled to say something, anything to comfort him. To say that everything was going to be alright, but I was too tired and exhaustion was quickly overpowering my senses. I can’t hold on for much longer.  Like a whisper on the wind, “Stay with me” was the last thing I heard. As my eyes fluttered close I tried to nod, just to let him know that I heard. Uncertain if I was successful or not, my eyed closed for what I thought was the last time.
