4. Little Things

-Jessie's POV-

I opened the door and walked up the stairs to my room without saying a word. I closed my door and sighed. I threw my bag in the chair in the corner before opening the doors leading to my balcony. I leaned against the railing and looked up at the stars. "Harry..." I breathed. I didn't mean to kiss him! I don't know. Maybe I did? Either way, when my lips touched his cheek and the way his mouth tipped up at the corner, it made me realize that I have feelings for Harry. I always have, but I couldn't tell him. This was hitting me harder than ever before.

I pushed off of the rail and went inside to change clothes. I pulled the covers down on my bed and climbed in. My mind drifted everywhere. It never settled down, really. I thought about my step-dad and my mum. Mum. I squeezed my eyes even tighter at the thought of her. Her long, wavy, brown hair. Her gentle, honey-colored eyes. Her fragile hands. I thought I could make it at least a week without missing her, but I was wrong. I was even missing Alex. His mop of curls and mint green eyes. He favored my dad by a long shot even though he has my mums hair and eyes. Dad. He was the only one who ever understood me. He was my bestfriend besides Harry. Ever since he died, I've found that a part of me is missing.

Something in me snapped. I could put on a fake smile and laugh so easily it was scary. I could rob you blind and you wouldn't know it until 30 years later. Sleep. That's what I need. ....Harry. I couldn't wait to be next to Harry tomorrow.

-Next Morning-

-Jessie's POV-

I woke up at 10 and ran to my bathroom to get a shower before Harry got here. I dried my hair and put a little makeup on before running to my closet. ( I took a quick look at myself in my mirror before grabbing my phone and bag. "Want some lunch?" my aunt called. "Going to eat with Harry. Sorry," I said, running down the stairs and out the door. Harry pulled in as soon as the door shut. I ran down the steps and opened the door to his Range Rover. "Hello, my beautiful bestfriend," he smiled. "Morning, mister kiss up," I winked. Harry rolled his eyes and backed out.

"So, I was thinking we could get a jump start on apartment hunting.." Harry hesitated. "Yeah, thats fine. I trust your opinion more than my aunts," I giggled. "Why do you say that?" he laughed. I shrugged. "You're my age, you're my friend. She'd pick out something she likes, not what I like," I sighed. "Good point." We drove in silence for a few minutes before Neyo's 'Let Me Love You' came on. "Oh my gosh, I love this song!" I squealed before turning the volume up. I started singing from the top of my lungs as the summer air rushed in through the open windows.

I could feel Harry's eyes on me as he laughed. "Harry, sing with me!" I pleaded. He gently put his hands up in surrender and sang with me. We sang in our opera voices, we sang so low that my voice was mute, we sang hillbilly style, we sang in gibberish, we did it all. Finally we pulled into a parking lot infront of giant apartment complex. I read the sign at the end of the road. "Oak Hill Apartments". "Harry, these are for rich people! I can't afford to live here," I frowned. "Who said you had to pay for it all?" he smirked. My heart stopped.

"Noooo, no, no, no, no, no! You can't do that!" I said. He rolled his eyes and brushed past me. I ran and stood infront him, blocking his path so he couldn't go inside. I crossed my arms waiting for his next move, but before I could turn around, he grabbed my elbows, lifted me up and sat me on the other side of him before going inside. "Pfft. You're not that strong," I said under my breath before reluctantly following Harry inside.

"Mister Styles! Welcome." a boy in his mid-twenties said. "Hello Maks. Have you seen Mr.Walsh?" he asked. The boy pointed to the office behind him. Just then, a man in a gray suit walked out and shook Harry's hand. "Ah Harry. So, shall we start on the top floor and work our way down?" he grinned. Harry nodded as we filed onto the elevator. This place was so fancy and beautiful. This must be new. I've been around the Oak Hill school for local events when I was younger, but this was never here. Eight years worth, Jess. I reminded myself.

We got out of the elevator and walked down the hallway. "The third one on this floor. It's pretty quiet up here," the man said. He pulled out a key and opened the white and gold door. I stepped inside and almost had to pick up my jaw. It was gorgeous. An open, spacious living room. An enormous kitchen. Three bedrooms with their own bathrooms. A spiral stair case leading to a loft with french doors that revealed a pool and patio. It was beautiful. I'm pretty sure Harry sensed how amazed I was because he pulled Mr.Walsh to the side and started writing something down. I walked in circles taking in every little detail. It was already furnished, but if this ended up to be mine, Harry would be my painting/moving buddy.

Mr.Walsh walked over and handed the key to me before hurrying out. I turned to Harry who sat on a bar stool at the island in the kitchen. "You didn't," I said with a raised eyebrow. "I don't know what you're talking about," he giggled while making a pretend halo over his head. I punched his arm. "Harry!" I screamed. He winced. "Don't you like it?" he frowned. "I love it. That's the problem. I can't do this to you," I sighed.

"It's my way of saying 'Welcome home'. Just think of the things you can do here! I'll be over 24/7 too," he winked. I couldn't do this to him, but I knew I had no way out. I slumped over to him and wrapped my arms around his neck. "I love you," I mumbled. "I love you too, Jessie," he said while rubbing my back. "You know what this means right?" I asked pulling away. He gave me a confused look. "Moving party! We have to get paint and move my stuff in and rearrange things and-" "Jess! Calm down. I'll call the guys. They'd love to meet you and this would be the perfect time," he said. I nodded slowly. This is just amazing.

"I'm hungry," I said before grabbing everything and running out the door laughing. I heard the door slam, but I was to afraid to turn around and look. I turned the corner and stopped to listen for Harry. When there was complete silence, I carefully peeked around the corner only to be met by a pair of green eyes. I jumped back when I felt Harry's strong arms around me. "You can't run away from me, Jess," he whispered before kissing my forehead.

I looked up at him. He was starring down at me, which made me blush. I broke his gaze. "Come on. Starbucks isn't far from here," I whispered.

-Harry's POV-

The whole day Jessie and I laughed, and took pictures and made weird videos and sang. We did everything like when we were little. I missed this. But now, we were picking out paint. This was agonizing. She picked a deep red for the kitchen, a dark purple-ish, pink for her room, sky blue for a spare bedroom, pale orange for the final bedroom, mint green for all of the bathrooms, lime green, barney purple and the same sky blue for the game room and a butterscotch color for the living room. "I think we've got everything!" she sang. Her face was so bright, I couldn't help but smile. We checked out and headed back to her apartment.

I called the boys and told them to bring their girlfriends so they could meet Jess and help us get her settled in. Jessie and I made two trips each carrying everything from the store inside before heading to Sienna's house to savage what was left. We walked inside and went to the kitchen. "It's about time!" Sienna said. She didn't seem too happy. "What? We've been shopping," Jessie said, brushing off her aunts comment.  "You better save your money missy. You have an apartment and car to be looking AND paying for," Sienna muttered. "Got it all covered, but the car part. I'm getting all of my stuff and heading over to paint my apartment now," she smiled. I could tell she was dying to walk right out the door, but she was being strong. "Oh really? Where is this place of yours then?" "Oak Hills."

Sienna's eyes grew. "How can you afford that?!" Jessie put her head down. "I-I know people. They were glad to help her out," I said. Jess's head spun towards me. She gave me a weak smile. "Oh. So you and mister-rich-and-famous are all buddy-buddy again, huh? You'd think differently if he'd tell you a little more about his life," Sienna smirked. I glared at her. "That's enough Sienna!" Grant said. "Jessie, go get your stuff. If you need me to help, give me a call," he said. Jessie nodded before grabbing some boxes and running upstairs.

Sienna huffed and walked off to her room, slamming the door behind her. "I'm sorry about Sienna, Harry." Grant apologized. I smiled. "Don't worry about it. I'm going to look after her. Jessie, I mean. I've let her slip away once," I said quietly. Grant nodded. "I know you will. I trust you, but don't make me regret that. Jess has been through a lot in the last eight years. She needs someone like you in her life. Just don't leave her hanging on anything," he smiled. I nodded as Jessie came walking down the stairs with the rest of her things. I helped her load them before getting in my car. She ran up to her uncle and gave him a hug before joining me.

She never said a word the whole ride so when I parked the car, I broke the silence. "Zayn, Liam and Louis are bringing their girlfriends with them. You'll really like them," I smiled. "What about Niall?" she asked. I shook my head. "He's not really that type. He takes things slow with girls," I shrugged. She nodded. "Don't worry about Sienna, babe. It'll be okay. I promise," I whispered, looking at her.

She chuckled. When she turned to face me, I could see the distant tears in her eyes. "You know, you're the only person I'd believe," she forced a smile. "Come on. Those walls won't paint themselves!" she smiled before grabbing everything her little arms would allow. I got the rest before we headed to the top floor.

We pushed open the door and sat the boxes in a corner. She started putting out plastic when I went to answer the door. I turned the nob and saw a welcome party of 7. "Hey guys!" I smiled as they each filed in. They had pizza boxes, drinks, chips, CD's, and ice cream. Louis brought his own paintbrush, claiming it was the finest around. Eleanor brought a vase full of flowers, Danielle had an envelope and Perrie a small, wrapped box.

"Where should we sit these?" Danielle giggled. Jessie spun around with big eyes. "Right here," she said, clearing a spot on the island. "You didn't have to do that!" she smiled. "We wanted to," Perrie said sweetly. I clapped my hands and grabbed Jessie. "Let's get you introduced to these guys," I said. "That's Liam and his girlfriend, Danielle. That's Zayn and his girlfriend, Perrie. Niall. Eleanor and Lo-" "Heather!" Louis shouted. We all laughed. "Just kidding, love. I'm Louis. Louis Tomlinson. The Tommo. The, as the fans like to say, Sassmaster from Doncaster," he smiled proudly.

Jessie turned to me with a grin on her face. They each hugged her and I could instantly tell that her, El, Dani and Perrie would all be having sleepovers and going shopping by next week. "Where do we start?" Liam asked. "Well, we have 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a kitchen, game room and a living room to paint. So where ever really," she said sheepishly.

Everyone split up, leaving me and Jessie to do the living room. It was five o'clock, so we should be finished around 12 at the very least. You could hear music coming out of every room in the place. It's a wonder no one has come to complain yet. Jessie and I were half way done with the entire living room, which was quite an accomplishment considering the fact that it was huge, but I was getting restless. Jessie was transfixed on trying to reach a corner near the stairs. I walked over and tapped her on the shoulder. She spun around and met my paint brush. "Harry!!" she screamed. She dipped her brush in the paint and chased me around. I jumped over the couch and grabbed her from behind.

"What now?" I laughed evily. She carefully reached up and got the entire left side of my face and neck. "I win," she said before running off. After about ten minutes off chasing each other, I had a ruined shirt, she had a different skin tone and we both had matching hair colors. We sat aginst a dry wall and listened to the different radios playing in the distance, and the low rumble of voices. Jessie leaned her head on my shoulder as she admired our work. We had completed the biggest room before the others finished their task.

"Thank you Harry," Jessie said calmly. "For what?" She paused. "Everything." I gently layed my head on top of hers. Her hand was on my knee and I so desperately wanted to hold it. I slowly reached out and clasped it with mine. She held it tightly, as if it were the most important thing in the world. She looked up at me. I never noticed how beautiful she was. I never realized that I loved her more than my own life. I've always wondered what it would be like to kiss her. They say wait for the perfect moment, but there's never a perfect moment. You have to take a moment and make it perfect.

I stared deeply into her eyes. I sang the first lines of Little Things to her then moved to the chorus then the second verses. Her eyes filled with tears the more I sang. "You'll never love yourself half as much as I love you and you'll never treat yourself right, darlin but I want ya to. But if I let ya know, I'm here for you then maybe you'll love yourself like I love you." Tears fell down her cheeks. Finally I finished the song. She still held my hand, she still cried, but I couldn't read her expression. I took my left hand and wiped her tears away with a flick of my thumb.

I held the side of her face and gently leaned in toward her. I closed my eyes and touched my lips to hers. I expected her to pull back and tell me she doesn't like me like that, but instead she kissed me back. I bit her bottom lip gently before pulling away. I looked in her eyes, searching for an answer. A smile slowly spread across her face as she wrapped her arms around my neck. I hugged her tight to my chest and slowly rocked her side-to-side. "So. Student, cook, painter, singer, bestfriend and girlfriend. That's all, right?" I asked. "Girlfriend?" she looked confused. Well, she is a blonde...

"We kissed. I sang you a song. Isn't that enough?" I asked getting worried. She grinned and gently kissed my lips. "I'm kidding. I've been wanting to do that for so long. I've often dreamed of what it'd be like to call you my boyfriend," she confessed. I smiled. Just then we heard a loud thud come from the spare bedroom. We jumped up and stepped onto the platform and ran down the hall. Niall was underneath Liam laughing so hard, his face matched the kitchen.

However, Liam was covered in green paint. "Who's......hahah.....the le-lepruchaun..hah...n-now.....L-liam? Hahhahaha!" he said between laughs. It was, just as I predicted, 12 o'clock. Luckily everything was finished except the unpacking. Jessie and I thanked everyone and closed the door. I went to the bathroom, but when I came back, Jessie wasn't in the living room. "Jess?" I yelled. I walked in her room only to see her laying on her couch.

I walked to her bed and pulled the covers down, then I walked over to where her tired, limp body lay. I bent down and picked her up in my arms. I set her on her bed and pulled the covers over her. "Goodnight, Jessie," I whispered, rubbing the side her head with my thumb. I bent down and kissed her forehead gently. I got halfway towards the door when I heard a gentle voice behind me.

"Harry. Are you leaving?" she asked. I turned around and smiled. "Not if you don't want me to," I said. She sat up and stretched before patting the spot next to her. "You can't leave me," she said sleepily. I climbed on top of the covers and sat next to her. She leaned over and burried her face in my neck. I rubbed her back and quietly sang Moments to her. Even though she had never heard any of our songs, I still sang them. For the first time, I was satisfied with everything. I had a wonderful job, four amazing friends, millions of supportive fans, a loving family and a beautiful bestfriend who was now my girlfriend. She was my world.

I made a vow: "I'll never purposely hurt you. I'll never cheat on you. I'll never love any other woman. I will be yours. I'll be supportive. I'll be anything you want. I love you Jessie Owens," and with that I closed my eyes and took in everything that's happened in the past two days.
