The Flute Player (1)

"Your test results have come back," the doctor said as soon as the door closed. I nervously looked at him, fidgiting.
"And?" My voice was barely audible. I watched him closely as he went behind his desk and to his files. I couldn't see anything in his eyes, his body language didn't suggest anything. I wanted him to hurry. I had a concert to perform in tonight, and I couldn't be late. One Direction was counting on me to play my flute with them.
"I'm sorry, Leah, but the results aren't good." The doctors eyes were sympathetic, and went on to explain the details. I didn't listen. From that moment on, I knew that the dream I was living would come to an end.

10. Playing Flute for the Boys

Leah's Point of View

"So... can you play Moments?" Niall asked as he wiped his face with the sleeve of his shirt.

"Ahh... sure." I nervously smiled. "Come back to the den." The chairs squeeked on the fake tiles of the kitchen floor, and we all got up and headed back towards the den. I put my flute together again, got the music out, even though I didn't need it, and then lastly reached for the CD player.

"No," Harry took my hand. We stayed that way for several moments before I looked in his eyes, looking for an explanation. I got lost in them. They were That was the only word, but they were such nice eyes...

"Why?" I demanded as I came back to reality.

"Because, we'll sing, and you play," Harry softly said. The other boys agreed as they found seating in the den.

"Umm... ok." I turned away from the CD player, and picked up my flute. "Can someone count me in? Oh... I don't know if I'm playing in the right key, though."

"It's fine, we'll figure that out with our voices," Liam explained.

"One... Two... Three..." Niall counted in, and instatnly Liam started to sing. He caught me by surprise, his voice was soo good. He was much better at singing than I had ever imagined. I quickly caught were they were, and looked at my music the whole time, being sure not to mess up infront of them.

I was standing tall and straight. I controlled my breathing as best as I could, and I tried to slow down my pulse because my heart was beating fast. My whole body was tense and nearly shaking, but somehow my fingers found their place at the right note at the right time. It worked perfectly.

"You're the best flute player, ever!" Harry said when the song was finished. I blushed as I put my flute down on the stand.

"Thanks, Harry."

"Harry IS right," Niall said as he stood up from his seat and took out his phone to check the time.

"Thanks. How long are you all planning to stay?"

"As long as you let us," Harry said, winking at me.

"Like, when are you going back to London?"

"Well..." All the boys looked at eachother. "You are a fantastic flute player, Leah," Harry said again. "And... we were all hoping you wouldn't mind coming on tour with us, and play along with some of our songs?"
