The Flute Player (1)

"Your test results have come back," the doctor said as soon as the door closed. I nervously looked at him, fidgiting.
"And?" My voice was barely audible. I watched him closely as he went behind his desk and to his files. I couldn't see anything in his eyes, his body language didn't suggest anything. I wanted him to hurry. I had a concert to perform in tonight, and I couldn't be late. One Direction was counting on me to play my flute with them.
"I'm sorry, Leah, but the results aren't good." The doctors eyes were sympathetic, and went on to explain the details. I didn't listen. From that moment on, I knew that the dream I was living would come to an end.

29. Life Changing Words

Leahs Point of View

The lunch date with the boys went really fast, and I could barely think of anything to say as the boys rambled on. After lunch I was taken to where the boys practiced their singing and had meetings. We signed in, and then Harry led me up a few stairs and down a hallway into a big, spacious room. The other boys had gone a seperate way.

"What's this?" I asked. The room looked to be well sound-proofed, and in one corner sat an expensive looking flute case with a shelf full of music books. There were windows looking out over the city, and curtains to cover them. There were five chairs, microphones and even an iPod dock, which was also a CD player.

"It's your room," Harry proudly told me as he softly pushed me into the room. "This is where we can practice with you, and where you can go when you want to play by yourself."

"For me?" I was speechless as I walked across the wooden floor and fingered the brand new flute books.

"Yes, just for you," Harry replied and gave me a hug, with a kiss on the cheek. "I need to go with the boys now to talk over a few things, but while we do that, you can feel free to play your flute. We even bought you a new flute. It's top quality."

"Thanks!" I hugged him back, and refrained from kissing his lips. I wanted to, I really did, but I didn't.

"Okay... I have to go now." He left the room, leaving me in awe. I couldn't wait until Jane heard about this! I got out my phone, took a picture and sent it to her straight away before running to the flute, which was mine. It was beautifully silver, with my name engraved on the side, and the1D logo printed on the other. I put the pieces of the flute carefully together and slowly played a scale. It sounded... there was no words for the magical sound. I would still have to get used to it so then it would sound much better, but I already liked the way it sounded.

I played a few more scales, getting used to the fingering before looking over the books. I took out a Disney one, and flipped through it. It smelt new, I deeply breathed in the smell before flipping to a song. It was You'll Be In My Heart from the movie Tarzan. It was my personal favorite movie from when I was a child. I remebered that I would forever watch the movie, and then wish that I could live in a jungle, just like in the movie.

I played it over and over again until it was memorized. I walked over to the window and looked out as I played. I don't know how long I played for, but it must have been a while.

"You're amazing... did I ever tell you that?" I jumped at the voice of Harry Styles. Turning away from the view of London, I saw him leaning against the doorway, his arms casually crossed against his chest.

"N-no," I stuttered as I put the flute down.

"Well, I just did." He smiled as he entered the room, and shut the door behind him. He came up to me and hugged me. "Leah... I have to tell you something." His voice sounded desperate. I pulled away from him, my heart beating fast. What was he going to say? Was he going to say they decided that I wasn't good enough? That I can't live in the house anymore? That they will have to take this room away from me?

"What is it?" I asked, looking deep into his eyes.

"Well... I don't want to ruin our friendship," he started off by saying. "But... but I love you, Leah. I have since the time we hid in your closet and surprised you."

My heart jumped. Was I hearing this correctly? How would I reply. I felt myself blush as I thought for an answer. I looked away from him. I felt my heart rapidly beating, and my brain wouldn't stop thinking. I was at a loss for words.

"You don't share the same feeling? I knew I shouldn't have ever told you!" Harry started beating himself up, saying other things, which were meaner. It broke my heart knowing that if I didn't tell the truth, he would be forever mad at himself.

"No, I do have the same feeling. I love you, too." As soon as I said those words, I knew that my life as I knew it, would change forever.
