The Flute Player (1)

"Your test results have come back," the doctor said as soon as the door closed. I nervously looked at him, fidgiting.
"And?" My voice was barely audible. I watched him closely as he went behind his desk and to his files. I couldn't see anything in his eyes, his body language didn't suggest anything. I wanted him to hurry. I had a concert to perform in tonight, and I couldn't be late. One Direction was counting on me to play my flute with them.
"I'm sorry, Leah, but the results aren't good." The doctors eyes were sympathetic, and went on to explain the details. I didn't listen. From that moment on, I knew that the dream I was living would come to an end.

24. Leah! Leah! Leah!

Leah's Point of View

The whole crowd went quiet as soon as Harry told them to, there was still the random cry or scream but that's about it.
"Let me introduce the newest member of our band... Leah!" Liam introduced and signaled me to come forward. I was in the dark spot in the back of the stage. Slowly I stepped forward. My heart beat within my chest as if it would burst out. Another step and I was in the light. A polite applause rang out with hoots and cheers. I was on the edge of the light, frightened. My feet were glued to the slippery stage.
"Are you coming, Leah?" Harry asked, signaling me to come closer.
I shook my head no, so he came up to me.
"C'mon Leah," Niall urged through his mic.
"Leah! Leah! Leah! Leah!" The slow, steady messed chant came from the crowd. Most likely one of the boys were telling them to, and then they all joined it along with the crowd. Tears were brimming in my eyes.
"It's ok," Harry gave me a hug. "I got scared when we did our first performance too, but as soon as the music started I forgot everything." I wouldn't let go of him and buried my head in his chest, ruining my hair. The tears started to come down my face, smudging my makeup and letting it settle on Harry's shirt. I didn't care. My body started to tremble.
"It's ok, Leah. If its too much, you don't have to."
"No..." I looked up from his shirt and wiped the tears with the back of my hands, looking up into Harry's green eyes. I couldn't stop staring.
"Leah Leah Leah!"
Niall, Liam, Zayn and Louis had gathered in a tight circle with the rest of the band. I couldn't see their mouths move so I couldn't see what they were saying, but I could tell they were saying that they should just leave it. No... I had to do this. It was just my nerves. I was exhausted, I was jet lagged. That was why. I could do it... Couldn't I?
"Here, we can just leave it and try another time. I know you're emotionally drained... Do you want to leave it?" Harry kept turning back from me to the other boys, mouthing and using facial expressions to communicate.
"Leah! Leah! Leah!" The fans kept cheering for me. "Just leave it! She's not worth your Time!" Impatient fans yelled. More tears came and I tried my best to control it all. Should I go on or not?
