Jolly Holiday

Shelbie was a fashion designer. Very low key, living in upper Manhattan with her junkie brother. Then she got her big break. And that big break, went by One Direction.

11. Violet

A rapping in the door let me know it was time for our "date". I pulled the door open excitedly, giving Niall the widest of grins.

"Don't you look dashing!" I muttered. He had changed out of his typical Polo shirt and jeans and had actually worn a suit. He made me feel bad for having changed into my pajamas early. I would've actually made an effort had I known he was going to go to this much trouble!

"Hello, Gorgeous," he greeted, revealing a bouquet of slightly wilted red roses from behind his back, "In honor of our first official date." he justified. I accepted the flowers, a tiny JayC sticker catching my eye. He gave me a sheepish laugh, "I may have made a run to the grocery to pick those up."

"It's okay, you're sweet." I chuckled, pulling out a vase (even though I knew it was useless. The things were already half-dead anyway.)

"So, what are we eating?" he asked, wrinkling his nose at the concoction I had set out on the tiny counter. That was one thing I love about the trailers. Every one had its own living quarters. Which meant, if done carefully, you could even entertain company in it!

"And why is there so much of it? Are you expecting someone else?" he asked.

"No, no one else. But I'm not stupid, Niall. I know you, and I know you don't eat like a bird." I said with a wink, setting out two bowls filled to the brim.

"Don't think I'm being rude, Love...but what is it?" he asked, sitting beside me at the short, linoleum counter.

"It's Louisiana-style Gumbo." upon his questioning glance, I finally threw out all the fancy talk and admitted, "Okay fine. It's shrimp and rice."

He chuckled a bit, before we fell completely silent and our heads swiveled to face my small television set, "Were you really watching Mork and Mindy?" he asked surprisedly.

"Uhh..." Well, this was embarrassing. He'd caught me in one of my guiltiest pleasures. I love old sitcoms. Seinfeld. The Brady Bunch. Dharma and Greg. Mork and Mindy. You name it, "It was already on...So..."

"I have the suspenders!" he chuckled. I had to cackle along. I could only imagine Niall Horan in rainbow, gold plated suspenders, "Nanu Nanu." I could've coughed up a lung I was laughing so hard. Who would've thought that of all people THIS would be the ONLY other person my age who knew what Mork and Mindy was! It was in that moment that I became convinced that I was doing something right by being with Niall.

There was a knock on the door then and I stood confusedly, going to answer. Before I could make it to the door, it flew open and a girl with rather startling, bushy brunette hair with pink and purple teased high lights came bounding in, "I smell food!" she squealed.

"I thought you said you weren't expecting company." Niall murmured from where he was sitting on the couch.

"I wasn't." I replied in utter shock.

I stared in disbelief as this complete stranger made herself right at home. She ladled herself a bowl of Gumbo and collapsed on the couch beside Niall, grabbing the remote and flipping through the channels. She seemed completely irrelevant to the fact that she was sitting right next to one fifth of One Direction.

"Ummm... Can I help you?" I asked nervously.

"Can you tell me what channel TLC is? I need some trash TV. This is good," she murmured, shoveling her mouth full of food, "What is it?"

Niall was looking at me with a face full of utter confusion. He tried to scoot as far away from the girl as possible. Finally, he gave up on being 'polite' and came to stand beside me. Because I'm apparently the one that is supposed to protect HIM.

"It- It's Louisiana-Style Gumbo," she looked at me like I had two heads, "It's shrimp and rice." I admitted, "Do - do I know you?"

"Mm!" she mumbled, as if she'd recalled some viral information, "I'm Violet." she scrubbed her hand across her mouth to remove the excess shrimp that was clinging to her lip. Then she extended the same hand to me in greeting. Charming.

"Okay, Violet. I'm not trying to be rude, but... What are you doing here?"

Her eyes glanced between both Niall and me. Then she took a deep inhale of breath, as if she'd finally realized something, "I'm interrupting something, aren't I?" she asked, a sly look on her face.

"Well, actually; now that you mention it-"

I elbowed Niall in the ribs to keep him from talking, "What are you doing here?" I finally came out with it and asked.

"I smelled food." she said simply.

"I don't mean here here. I mean here in general. Are you a part of the crew?"

"Oh, no! I'm a friend of Harry's." then it hit me. She was girl he had brought on to stage!

"Oh!" I realized. Maybe she wasn't supposed to be back here. Maybe she was following him and he was hiding out. Maybe she was making herself cozy in my trailer in order to hide from the guards, "Well, I bet Harry is in the bus with the others if you're looking for him."

"Oh, I'm sure he'll be along soon. You got anything to drink around here?" she asked.

"Uh, no, but there's a machine right inside the building. Why don't you go get us a couple?" I handed Violet several dollars and after she left I locked the door behind her.

"What the hell was that?" Niall asked, letting out a breath that he'd apparently been keeping. The ere of creepiness slowly left, "What are we going to do when she comes back?" he asked nervously.

"She won't be back," I cracked a smile I'd been trying to hold back, "There isn't a fizz machine in the entire building. She'll be looking for hours."

"You have a devious little mind." he chuckled. Without another thought he grabbed the remote and flipped it back to Mork and Mindy. We both collapsed onto the couch, and he wrapped his arms tightly around my body, resting his chin on the top of my head.

I couldn't help but think. Were we ever going to be able to have a real date?!
