22. Liam’s Wedding 1 - I Miss You, Love

The night before Liam and Danielle’s wedding, we all stayed at a hotel near their wedding venue. The boys had organized a bachelor party for Liam, while all the girls had gathered in Liam and Danielle’s suite. Mina and Sophie were invited to the wedding, too, so, the three of us were sitting on a sofa, eating cake and ignoring all the squeals of excitement from all the other girls there.

‘How are things going between you and Niall?’ Mina asked and Sophie looked at her knees, blushing. She had really fallen head over heels for Niall. They had been going out for over a month now.

‘He’s sweet and he always puts a smile on my face,’ Sophie replied. ‘He said he’d fix me, too.’

‘Aw, Soph, that’s so romantic,’ Mina said, wiping a tear away from the corner of her eye. Mina and I wanted Sophie to be happy. She had been through a lot in the hands of all the jerks she had met.

Sophie hugged Mina, and then, she told me, ‘Niall told me that you warned him not to break my heart. Thank you for looking out for me, sis.’

‘You deserve to be happy, Soph,’ I said, tearing up, too, and Sophie hugged me, too. All three of us were crying now. Hey, what can I say, us girls can get pretty emotional sometimes.

‘Okay, enough with the mushy stuff. Let’s have some fun,’ Sophie said, sniffing.

But then, we heard a girl called Lana asking Danielle, ‘Is that her?’ Lana was pointing right at me. ‘Is that Liam’s rebound girl?’

I put my hand on my stomach, because, wow, that really felt like a punch in the gut. I swallowed against the lump in my throat, feeling all color drain from my face.

Danielle nodded, looking at me. ‘Yes, that’s her,’ she said. ‘Her name’s Bess.’

I cringed. Didn’t Danielle know I could hear them? I was sitting only a couple of steps away. Was she doing this on purpose?

‘She really shouldn’t have been invited to the wedding, Dani,’ Lana said, glaring at me.

‘She’s Liam’s friend,’ Danielle replied. She looked defeated.

I got up. I needed to get out of there.

‘Where are you going?’ Mina asked, worried.

‘Don’t let what they say get to you,’ Sophie said, adding loudly, so, everyone in the suite would hear, ‘Danielle’s probably a bit bitter, but Lana’s just jealous she didn’t get to Liam before you did.’ Danielle was on the verge of tears now, while Lana’s face had turned red with embarrassment.

‘Did you really have to do that, Sophie?’ I asked. Sophie didn’t take crap from anyone and she always defended Mina and me when people messed with us.

'Yes. That girl deserved it,' Sophie replied, sipping her champagne.

Then, I left the suite. That was enough drama for me for one night, thank you very much. I headed to my hotel room, texting Harry.

Me: You’d better not have taken Liam to a strip club. Liam’s a good boy…I miss you, baby.:(

I hit sent and a few seconds later, I got his reply.

Baby: What happens on a bachelor party stays between the groom and his best men. I miss you, too, beautiful. Can’t wait to crawl into bed with you. ;)

I smiled, thinking that boys will be boys. When I got to the hotel room, I lied on my side on the bed. I felt too tired and lazy to undress. I only wanted to sleep right now. I was four months pregnant and some days the morning sickness ironically lasted all day long, something which was a total nightmare. I closed my eyes and drifted into unconsciousness. Loud voiced woke me up a few hours later. It was a quarter after 3.

‘I’m sorry, Danielle,’ Zayn said. ‘We can’t find Liam anywhere.’

‘How can you possibly have lost him?’ Danielle shouted. ‘What if something happens to him?’

‘He’s drunk, Dani, not an infant,’ Harry reasoned calmly. ‘He can take care of himself.’

‘And he’s somewhere in the hotel,’ Louis added. ‘We’ll find him eventually.’

‘The hotel’s huge, Louis!’ Danielle cried, panicked.

‘We should be looking for him, not arguing,’ Niall said and they all agreed. Then, there was silence.

‘They lost Liam?’ I thought out loud. ‘I went to sleep for a couple of hours and they lost Liam!?’ I frowned when I noticed a note on the floor. Someone must have slipped it under the door. I got up and picked it up, but when I opened it, I stopped breathing for a few seconds. It was from Liam. I read it quickly.

Dear Bessie,

I’m writing you this letter, because, 1. I’m drunk, 2. I’m getting married tomorrow, and 3. There are a few things I need to tell you. I miss you, love… I connected with you more than I have connected with anyone else in my life. We clicked from day one. You always laughed at my lame jokes. You always were patient with me when I was tired or bored or too boring. You always understood me perfectly, encouraging me and inspiring me, and you always stood by me, no matter what. You will forever be perfect to me, Bessie, perfect for me. My Bessie… We would make a cute husband and wife, you and I. I think I told you that before, didn’t I? A small part of me hates Harry that you don’t need me anymore. I miss you, love

Forever yours,

Your Cuddly Bear, Liam… X

P.S. By the time you read this, everyone will be looking for me. I’ll run away from them, HAHA! I’ll be at the hotel’s indoor pool, waiting for you to come find me. ;)

I held back the tears that had gathered in my eyes and ran to the indoor pool. I had to find Liam and take him back to Danielle. He belonged with her and it was way too late to even think about things any differently than that. When I reached the indoor pool, I found Liam standing by the pool. He was wearing a white shirt, black trousers and black shoes. Two buttons of his shirt were open and he had his hands deep in his trousers’ pockets. When his brown eyes found mine, he sighed.

‘You look beautiful,’ Liam said.

‘Are you kidding me?’ I asked, glaring a little. My hair was a mess, I was barefoot, and I still had on my purple cocktail dress.

‘Remember the last time we were in a pool together?’ Liam asked with a little grin, moving closer. I blushed, remembering, and stepped back. But he grabbed my wrist, so, I wouldn’t get away, and scanned me with his eyes. ‘I like your dress,’ he said softly, finally setting his eyes in mine.

‘Of course, you like it. It’s purple,’ I replied in a flat voice. I didn’t want to show any emotion at all. Liam chuckled and I lost my patience. ‘What the hell is this, Liam?’ I demanded, holding his note in his face. ‘Why are you doing this to me right now? Why are you doing this to yourself the night before your wedding?’

Liam shrugged, didn’t reply and grabbed my face. He pressed his lips against mine. He reeked of alcohol. I put my fists on his chest, pushing him back, but he didn’t budge. When he attempted to slid his tongue into my mouth, I slapped him hard. Liam pulled away, wide eyed and rubbing his red cheek.

‘Why do you hate me, Bessie?’ Liam asked, making a sad face. ‘Why do you hate me, love? Why?’

I closed my eyes and massaged my temples, attempting to calm myself down. It didn’t work. I opened my eyes and told him, ‘You’re so drunk you probably won’t even remember that you kissed me when you wake up in the morning.’

‘I’ll remember,’ Liam promised, but his beer breath told me otherwise.

I sighed and took his hand. ‘Come on. I’ll return you to your fiancée,’ I told him over my shoulder, dragging him along.

‘But I want you, love,’ Liam told me, squeezing my hand.

I didn’t dare look at him. I only shook my head and replied, ‘Whatever you say, Liam.’

Liam!’ Danielle screeched the minute Liam and I walked into the hotel corridor. Harry and Louis were there, too. Danielle ran and crashed into her fiancé. She folded her arms around his head and kissed his cheek over and over again. Then, she pulled away, ran her hands through his hair and asked, ‘Where were you? I was worried sick!’

‘I thought we were playing hide and seek,’ Liam lied, sticking his lower lip out.

‘You’re so drunk, aren’t you?’ she asked, smiling.

‘I am,’ Liam replied simply.

‘Come on, big boy, it’s time for you to go to bed,’ Danielle told him and when she took his hand away from mine, I tried not to react at all. That was it then. I could never have him, ever again. Danielle looked at me and said, ‘Thank you for bringing him back to me. And I’m sorry about before. Lana can be a bitch sometimes.’

I shrugged. ‘Never mind.’

When Danielle and Liam walked away, Harry came to me. ‘I’m not even going to ask what Liam did this time,’ he told me. He was fighting to keep calm. Then, he said more to himself than to me, ‘I forgive him because he was drunk and because he’s getting married tomorrow.’

I smiled at him, folded my arms around his stomach and kissed his neck. ‘Can we please go to bed? I’m tired.’

Harry nodded, kissing my hair. But as we headed to our hotel room, he muttered through his teeth, ‘I won’t chase after Bess again my ass.’ He had probably remembered the promise Liam had made him over a year ago.
