14. Happy Anniversary 1

Harry woke me up on Christmas morning by almost sucking my earlobe off. I moaned a little, drawing a deep breath, but didn’t open my eyes. I smiled when he sang in whispers into my ear, ‘When I first held you I was cold, a melting snowman I was told, but there was no one there to hold, before, I swore that I would be alone for ever more, wow, look at you now, flowers in the window, it’s such a lovely day, and I’m glad you feel the same, cause you stand up, out in the crowd, you’re one in a million, and I love you, so, let’s watch the flowers grow …’ He caressed my spine, up and down, with his fingers the whole while.

I flutter my eyes open and looked at him. He was lying on his side and was half smiling. ‘You’re in a romantic mood this morning,’ I told him, pulling the duvet over my shoulders. I was lying on my stomach, naked.

Harry pulled the duvet away. ‘Don’t hide your body, beautiful,’ he said. ‘I love to just … look at it.’ I giggled and he kissed my lips, saying, ‘Merry Christmas.’

‘Merry Christmas,’ I whispered back, touching his cheek and stroking it with my thumb.

He planted a kiss on my palm before he said, ‘And Happy one year Anniversary, too.’

My eyes widened and the smile was wiped off my face. I had totally forgotten about that. Great, now I felt like a horrible person on Christmas day. I felt like I was the worst wife ever! How could I possibly have forgotten about my one year anniversary with Harry!? I cleared my throat and looked away from his face before I said, ‘Happy Anniversary, baby.’

‘Bess …’ Harry began and I timidly turned my eyes to him. ‘Did you forget about our anniversary?’ he asked, looking right into my eyes.

I shook my head back and forth, denying that I had.

‘Bess…’ Harry called again in a husky voice. ‘Don’t lie to me,’ he said, pinching my chin between his thumb and forefinger.

‘Mommy. Daddy,’ Emma called from the other room and Harry rolled out of bed, slipping into a pair of grey boxers. I quickly went on my knees, wrapped the duvet around me and grabbed his arm before he could leave the bedroom.

‘Are you mad at me?’ I asked, holding on to his arm tight.

Harry half smiled. ‘No. But you have to make it up to me if you want to get your anniversary gift.’

‘Make it up to you how?’ I asked.

‘That’s up to you to figure out, beautiful,’ he replied.

‘B-but …’ I began but he put his hand over my mouth and moved closer.

He tucked a lock of my hair behind my ear before he said, ‘No buts, love. You don’t want to make me mad, do you?’ His face only an inch away from mine and his lips looked so tasty. I tried to kiss him but he stepped back. ‘No kisses for you, beautiful,’ he said, very serious. ‘Not until you make it up to me.’

‘Mommy! Daddy!’ Emma squealed this time. ‘Santa!’ she cried. She probably wanted to open her presents.

I looked at Harry, glaring a little. ‘This is called blackmailing you know,’ I complained. I just really wanted to kiss him right now. He grinned, saying nothing, and winked at me before he went to get Emma. I got out of bed, mumbling complains under my breath, and put on my polka dot pajama bottom and one of Harry’s hoodies. Then, I called Liam. When he picked up, all I could hear was panting and moaning. I frowned.

‘Liam?’ I called but he didn’t reply. He must have answered by accident.

Oh, Liam, YES,’ I heard a girl’s voice crying and my eyes widened, realizing what was happening on the other end of the line.

Danielle,’ Liam moaned, loudly and hoarsely, and I pressed my lips tightly together, holding back a laugh. Well, it seemed as if the two of them exchanged gifts already.

Danielle gasped and said, ‘Liam, your phone!’

Liam cursed before he grabbed the phone. ‘Hello? Haz, are you there?’

‘It’s Bess, actually,’ I replied, stupidly smiling. I was so happy for him.

He fell silent for a moment, probably turning all shades of red. Then, he cleared his throat and talked, embarrassed, ‘Oh, morning, love. Merry Christmas …’

‘Merry Christmas, Liam. Is there something that you want to share with me?’ I asked, still smiling wide.

Well …’ he began.

‘Well …?’ I insisted.

He laughed before he confessed, ‘Danielle and I are back together.’

I gasped, excitedly, and asked, ‘For good?’

For good,’ he replied and I could clearly imagine the warm smile that must have spread on his face.

‘I’m so happy for you, really,’ I told him and he chuckled.

Thanks. But anyway, did you want anything?’

‘Oh, right,’ I said, remembering why I had called him in the first place. ‘I need to ask you a favor.’

What kind of favor?’ he asked.

‘I need you to get Harry out of the flat and keep him preoccupied for a couple of hours,’ I said before I joked, ‘Of course, if you have other obligations, I’ll understand.’

Liam laughed again. ‘No, Bess, it’s fine. I’ll call Harry in a while and ask him if he wants to come over and watch a football match with me. I’ll call the other guys, too.’

‘Brilliant,’ I said and hung up. Then, I went into the living room. Harry and Emma were sitting under the Christmas tree and he had already helped her open her first present. It was a beautiful rag doll, my mom had made it for her, and Emma was ecstatically playing with it. I sat down next to them. ‘I figured out how I’ll make it up to you,’ I told him, proudly.

Harry looked at me, half smiling. ‘Really?’ he asked, doubting.

‘Yes, really!’ I replied, a little irritably. Then, I calmed down and asked, ‘Can I have a kiss now?’

‘Nope,’ he replied. He looked as if he was enjoying this. He went on, ‘You forgot our one year anniversary, beautiful, so, I think I should make you suffer a little. Besides, it’s hot to see you begging for my kiss.’

I clicked my tongue before I began, ‘You-are-an-’

‘Mommy!’ Emma cried, interrupting me. She shoved her rag doll into my stomach. She wanted me to play with her.

‘What is it, angel?’ I asked, smiling at her. I picked her up, grabbed her other present and placed it in front of her. ‘Your daddy’s a moron some days, isn’t he, angel?’ I told her and she giggled.

Harry threw his head back, laughing. Then, his phone rang and he picked it up, ‘Morning, mate, Merry Christmas … oh, yeah, sure, I’ll come by in a while.’ When, he hung up, he looked at me with a furrowed brow. ‘That was Liam,’ he said. ‘He wants to talk to me about something.’ I hid a smile and he shrugged before he helped Emma open her second present.

Alexis_styles reminded me that it's Harry and Bess' one year anniversary on Christmas Day, since they got married on December 25th, something which I had totally forgotten! So, I thought that 2 chapters about their anniversary are in order!

Also, all of your lovely comments made me change my mind and decide that I'll keep this story going for a little while longer, because, as long as you guys are interested in reading it, I'll keep writing it! And besides, I have a few ideas about what should happen next, too.

Thank you all so so much for all the comments, all the favorites and all the hearts, you're all so amazing, especially, the ones of you who have been around since The Rebound Girl! It means a lot!

Oh, and Merry Christmas everyone! :) xx
