Katniss in Wonderland - (old version)

CrossOver Story - After their great victory of The 74th Annual Hunger Games, Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen are invited to a banquet with President Snow. They get bored with the fancy ball, and decide to explore the palace of President Snow. In the garden, they find a mysterious passage way to a wonderful place, where a girl named Alice greets them.

5. The Banquet

A few days passed, and prepares in the President's Villa were as intense as ever. Everyone was running all over he building carrying from sophisticated dishes on beautiful trays to eccentric costumes, Capitol-like. Cinna's new assistant came at the villa and gave me my dress and Peeta's tuxedo, with a handwritten note on them, asking us kindly not to open them until the day of the banquet. He also showed us the schedule of the banquet, teaching us when to hold our discourse, and when to retreat.

The day had come and I excitedly unwrapped my gown. It was a beautiful pink gown, with diamonds sprinkled all over it. It was made of a soft material, that made it float in the air like a bird. I tied my hair up in a complicated bun, and went back to my room to see Peeta's tuxedo. It looked a lot like Ceaser Flickerman's tuxedo. A very bright pink, with a white tie, and a smalldiamond tuxedo handkerchief. I was a bit surprised by Cinna's choice today, because he didn't usually choose the Capitol fashion, but I didn't want to change it, because I knew he always did the right choices.

As Peeta and I were about to enter the grand ballroom, the music started playing. The two high doors guarding the room opened as we stepped in front of them, and everybody turned their heads towards us. 500 eyes staring at you is quite triumphant. Everyone started in awe, as I squeezed Peeta's arm. He looked at me and smiled, nodding encouragingly. Soon enough, we were part of the crowd, greeting the most important persons first, and the other ones after.

Couples were swaying to the music, the tables full of sophisticated meals were crowded, everybody eating like there was no tomorrow, my mother and Prim were trying every dish and squealed at every one of them, Haymitch was drinking, and Peeta and I were walking around the hall, not enjoying the party like we thought we would. Everybody came to us to ask us if we enjoyed it, and we nodded out of politeness, but I figured this kind of fancy things weren't my soft spot.

I stroked Peeta's arm and he turned his gaze to mine.

-I want to go Peeta... I whispered in his ear

He looked at me in disbelief but I nodded to confirm that I meant what I said. He frowned once again but turned his head and started dragging me towards the exit. I sighed relieved that I wasn't going out alone. Because of the attention that would've drawn the opening of the big doors upon us, we left the room by the small door next to it.

As soon as the door opened, fresh air came in. It was chilly compared to the ballroom because of all the people in there, so I got goosebumps all over my body. Peeta put his arm around my shoulder, warming me a little. We started walking straight ahead, with no target. Peeta had started humming a song that the orchestra was playing earlier.

-You like that song, huh? I asked leaning my head on his shoulder.

-I do... he answered pecking my forehead.

We heard the volume less and less as we were walking towards the end of the hallway. The villa was silent and empty. We walked for a while, turning at each corner, always choosing the path on the left at every intersection when I suddenly stopped, resulting Peeta stepping on my foot.

-Ow! I yelped looking angrily at him.

-You were the one who stopped!

-Yeah, Peeta, because I think we're lost. Do you remember the way back?

He shook his head and my heart started beating faster and faster. I started walking again until a glass door blocked our way. It was a dead-end.
