Opening Act - A One Direction Fanfiction

Emily Miller is finally determined to be famous. All these years, posting videos of youtube that nobody watched got her determined. So one day, she faces her fears and goes to Modest! Managment, where her favourite boyband is manged. What does Mr.Karl, the manger, do? Not a big deal really, he just assigns Emily as One Direction's Opening Act on their next tour.

2. Modest!

I moved my mouse around the page for a while longer, re-reading for the nth time the completed form. I was more nervous than the first time I sung on stage. There was a big crowd that time, but by clicking that little ordinary and yet so important 'Send' button at the bottom of the page I was signing up for an even bigger crowd. My mum, who was standing right beside me, suddenly sighed.

'Sweetheart, you're overreacting. Just click on it. I promise you, they won't bite. If anything, I can talk to aunt Sarah to get you on top of the list.' she patted my back reassuringly.

I clicked the left button of my mouse and the usual 'Your form was sent successfully.' message popped on the screen.

'There.' I said blankly. Then suddenly I realized what I just did. My eyes widened in surprise, I gasped and turned to face my mother.

'Mum, I might work with Little Mix, or even Rita Ora!' she looked at me confused.

'I thought you chose Modest! because of One Direction...?'

'Don't even mention that!'

Almost 2 weeks had passed, and I got no sign from the managing company. My mum talked to aunt Sarah, who said she's not really in the position to put me on top of the list (maybe that's why I haven't met One Direction yet). I hadn't seen my coach since then, I was to ashamed to face him until I got the answer. It seemed like months had passed, when 'Kiss You' started playing on my phone. That was the ringtone for an unknown number. I picked it up, suddenly feeling my heart beat faster.

'Hello?' a male voice echoed in my iPhone.

'Hi, is this Emily Miller?'

'Yes.' I replied blankly, realizing this could be my future agent.

'I'm Mr. Karl, from Modest! Management. I was in charge of your demo. I have to discuss it with you, so I'm going to need you to come by my office. Oh, and since you're almost 18, there's no need for your mother to come along.'

I stood frozen, letting all sink in. Mr.Karl seemed like a nice guy, who talked rather casually to me, which I enjoyed.

'Um...uh...yes, o-ok.' I stuttered, my voice shaking. I heard my future agent's chuckle, as he asked me to write down his address.

We settled my appointment on Thursday, 27th of September, at 13 o'clock. Which was today. In 30 minutes. I stepped out of the subway, making my way through the crowd. I walked to The Matrix Complex 91 Peterborough Rd, the address I had learned by heart and entered the big modern building. There was a reception desk on the right side of the door, a few elevators in front a several doors on my left. Being lost in space, I walked over to the reception counter.

'Hello, miss. Can I help you?' a brunette lady smiled up at me, looking up from what I suspected was a computer screen.

'I have an appointment with Mr. Karl?'

The lady looked back down at the computer screen.

'Emily Miller?' I nodded. 'Mr. Karl is busy right now, you'll just have to wait outside his bureau. Let my colleague take you there.' she smiled again, maybe one of the rules in her job, and disappeared behind a door. Moments later a tall man led me through a series of hallways, until we stopped in front of a door.

'Please, take a seat. Mr.Karl will finish soon.' he pointed at some seats and I sat down.
