Kiss Me, I'm Irish

I was only supposed to spend a normal holiday season in Ireland. Just a nice relaxing Christmas in the Emerald Isle. That's all I wanted, actually. Well, let me tell you, that did not happen. Let's just say, I had a pretty exhausting twenty four hours. Being chased by screaming fans, meeting iconic pop stars.....It can take it out of a girl!

Look, I know I'm being confusing, but none of this even makes sense to me yet! So just sit down, get comfy, because you're about to hear a crazy story...

3. I Lose Five Euro

I woke up very early the next morning, so early that everyone was still asleep. I relish a half hour’s peace and quiet before everyone else wakes up and the house becomes a mad house. My regular routine is to make some tea and read in the sitting room. However, this particular morning, that was not to be.
I had just sat down on the couch when the doorbell rang. Grumbling distemperedly to myself, I walked to the door and pulled it open. Only to reveal Niall Horan.
“Good morning.” He said pleasantly.
I stared, open-mouthed at him.
“May I come in?”
I nodded wordlessly and stepped aside, letting Niall walk in. I shook my head to clear it and recovered my powers of speech.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, shutting the door behind him.
“I came to see you.”
“Yeah- but why?”
“You really made an impression on me last night. And I have the day off today, so I was wondering if we could spend it together.”
I leaned against the wall for support and shut my eyes.
“Niall, I don’t think that would be a good idea.”
“Please Ceili.” He said softly, taking my hands.
His blue eyes melted my heart, but I pushed that away.
“But- what if the paparazzi saw you with me? That would start a newspaper sensation, and I don’t want that for you-“
“I never do anything like this, Ceili. I’m not confident in myself, and am never spontaneous. I’m really, really far out of my comfort zone right now. But I thought about you all last night, and when I woke up, I just had to see you.”
I bit my lip and he looked at me hopefully. I softened and tilted my head,
“You really want to do this, Niall?”
“I really do.”
I nodded and then said,
“Give me five minutes.”

I charged to my room and hurriedly got dressed, putting on my favorite pink jeans and sweater. I applied some makeup and concealer to my blue eyes, and brushed my thick blonde/brown hair. Looking in the mirror, I shrugged.
“It’ll have to do.”

Then I sprinted to Sara Jane’s room and shook her awake.
“He’s here!” I hissed.
“Who?” she asked groggily, rubbing my eyes.
“Niall!”
She sat up instantly and clutched my hands.
“Why are you talking to me then? Go!”
“Will you please cover for me again?” I begged.
“Do you even need to ask?”
I hugged her tightly, and then ran out of the room.
“By the way, you owe me a fiver!” Sara Jane called after me.

I found Niall in the sitting room, looking at some pictures.
“Is this you as a baby?” he asked pointing at one.
“Yeah.”
He smiled gently.
“You were gorgeous.”
“Please, I had no hair until I was two years old.”
“So? You were still beautiful. You still are.”
I blushed and looked down.
“We better get going.” I muttered.
Niall nodded and we left the house.

Outside, Niall opened the passenger side door for me and I slid in. He hopped in the other side and started the car. He nodded to the two cups of coffee in the drink holders.
“Go ahead and take one.”
I picked on up and took a sip. It was perfect, exactly the way I take my coffee.
“Okay, you seriously are a mind reader!”
“Why?” Niall asked curiously.
“Because that’s exactly how I take my coffee!”
“Really? Well, that was just a coincidence, I guess. Because that’s how I take my coffee too.”
I smiled and took another sip of the coffee.
“Do you know how to drive?” he asked.
“In America, I do.”
Niall laughed heartily at this and I grinned. His laugh was adorable. He saw my smile and glanced at me.
“Something funny?”
“Your laugh is the cutest thing I have ever heard.”
“Some people make fun of me because of it. That kind of hurts, because it’s something I really can’t help.”
I took his hand comfortingly.
“Well, those people don’t know how to see the beauty in life. Because your laugh is a beautiful thing.”
Niall smiled.
“Thanks, Ceili.” He said warmly.

As we drove, I switched on the radio. A few songs played and then One Direction came on. Niall grimaced and hurriedly turned it off.
“You don’t like listening to yourself sing?” I asked, surprised.
Niall shook his head.
“I start thinking that I sound awful.”
“Would you sing for me then?” I asked, hoping against hope he would say yes.
“I- I don’t-“
“Please, Niall?” I wheedled.
Niall looked at me for a few moments and then sighed.
“Oh… Alright!”
I clapped my hands delightedly and Niall cleared his throat.
“When I look into your eyes, I see sunshine.
The clouds are blown away.
I hope you’re here to stay.
Cause I’ve got me needing more of you.
Guess I’m falling for you.” He sang.
Niall caught my eye and I nodded encouragingly.
“You walk away, my eyes caress you.
Then you turn and smile,
You’ve caught me thinkin’ love with you.
Since I met you, the days seem brighter.
Life’s uneven loads seem lighter.
When I hear you whisper the words I long to hear,
Dear.
Now I look into your eyes.
I’m lost in knowing that you are all that I want.
My need for you is growing.
Guessing I’m falling, I think I’m falling for you.
Think about falling for me too.”

Niall’s voice faded away and I applauded enthusiastically.
“That was wonderful! Michael Bublé, right?”
Niall grinned widely.
“Yes! I can’t believe you know that! And you got his name right!”
“My dad’s Canadian, remember?”
“That explains it.”

We fell silent until I said,
“Niall, where are we going exactly?”
“I thought maybe Phoenix Park? Have you ever been there?”
I shook my head and Niall said,
“Perfect. Then the boys suggested us meeting them back at the hotel for some lunch later today. They said they want to meet you.”
I gulped at this.
“The boys- as in, Harry, Louis, Liam, and Zayn?”
“The very same.” Niall said with a grin.
“They want to meet me?”
“Yes, they do.”
I slumped against the seat and just laughed.
“This isn’t happening.”
“What do you mean?” Niall asked worriedly.
“Things like this don’t happen to me. They just don’t. If my friends knew who I was with right now, they’d probably have a heart attack. Especially because they all love One Direction-“
“Oh really?” Niall said mischievously.
“And do you love One Direction?”
I blushed and went with the safest option, saying,
“Who doesn’t?”
Niall laughed.
“You’d be surprised. So, which one of us is your favorite?” he asked teasingly.
“Well, I think that should be obvious.” I said, holding his hand.
Then I grinned, hit with a sudden idea. If he was going to tease me, I’d just turn around and do the exact same to him.
“It’s definitely Harry.” I said decisively.
“He is so sexy.”
Niall’s mouth fell open and I burst out laughing at his expression.
“They always fall for Harry.” He said sadly.
“No, you idiot! That was a joke!”
“Oh- Then who is your favorite?”
Oh My God.
“It’s you, obviously!”
He grinned, eyes lighting up.
“Am I really?”
“Yes! You’re the reason I started liking 1D in the first place!”
“Woohoo!” Niall screamed, slamming his foot on the gas and making us shoot forward.
“Whoah! You’re going to get yourself arrested!”
“I don’t care! I’m on cloud nine right now!” Niall exclaimed.

After five more minutes of this reckless driving, we made it to Phoenix Park in one piece. We got out of the car and walked through the gates hand in hand. Phoenix Park, for those of you who don’t know, is a park full of gardens and statues in Dublin. It’s beautiful in the summer while in full bloom. However, we were there in the middle of winter and everything was white. Our own Winter Wonderland.
“We have the place to ourselves.” Niall said with a grin.
“That’s because no one in their right mind would come out here on a day like today.”
“Then we must be absolutely insane.” Niall countered, setting off in a run.

We ran through the park in the snow, me tripping quite often. Niall somehow convinced me to make a snow angel, so I compliantly laid down.
“I feel stupid down here.” I said.
“I’ll make one too. We can feel stupid together.” Niall said, getting down beside me.
We just lay on the ground, letting the snow fall down all around us. Silently, Niall took my hand and held on tightly. And when we got up, our angels’ wings were touching. Interlocked, as if they wouldn’t be parted.
Next, Niall found a pond, frozen over from the snow.
“Let’s go skating, Ceili.”
“Niall, you have witnessed my balance issues. That would just be tempting fate.”
“I won’t let go of you.” He promised, offering me his hand. I sighed and took it, stepping out onto the ice.
“It’s up to you to keep me on my feet.”
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

We skidded around on the ice. It wasn’t proper skating, but it was enough for me to nearly go crashing down plenty of times. Niall steadied me every single time.
“I’ve got you.” He said when I almost fell for the umpteenth time.
“Good!”
Suddenly, Niall turned me around and held both my hands.
“Let’s spin!”
“You’re bonkers! A total nutter!” I cried as we began to rotate.
“I enjoy being a nutter. It makes life so much more interesting, don’t you think?”
And I had to agree.

Then, disaster struck. I lost my grip on Niall and went careening away.
“Help!” I exclaimed, trying desperately to regain my balance.
Niall streaked over and caught me just as I was about to fall. He set me on my feet and we just looked at each other, our breath mingling in the cold air.
“You okay?” he asked.
I nodded breathlessly and Niall stared at me. And I mean really stared at me, as if he was trying to commit my face to memory. I know this sounds corny, but it really was a magical moment: Standing together amidst the swirling snow.

But then Niall glanced down at our interlocked hands and said,
“Your poor hands, they’re frozen! Why didn’t you tell me you didn’t have gloves?”
“It- it didn’t seem important.”
Niall brought my hands to his lips and blew on them to warm them up, rubbing them between his own to get the blood flowing.
“There you go.” He said softly.
“Thanks.”
Niall took off his own gloves and handed them to me.
“Here, put them on.”
“What about you?”
“You’ll just have to hold my hand extra tightly now, won’t you?”
I smiled, and then said.
“I’ll make you a deal. I put on the left glove, you put on the right, and we hold one another’s other hand, okay?”
“You’re smart! I like girls who don’t act like they’re dumb. Intelligence is cute.”

Niall glanced at his watch and groaned when he realized it was nearly noon.
“We better get going. Oh, and you haven’t had anything to eat all day! You must be starving!”
I shrugged.
“It really doesn’t matter. I don’t eat a lot for breakfast normally anyway.”
“That’s not the point. Some date I am, freezing your poor little hands off, starving you to death. What must you think of me?”
“I think,” I said softly.
“That you were so focused on my having a good time that those, unimportant, miniscule details slipped your notice.”
“And are you having a good time?”
“The best.” I replied.
Niall smiled and put his arm around me.
“C’mon. Let’s get out of here.”
