7. 1891.

Sherlock took 5 seconds to process what the Doctor was saying before glancing around at the cobbled street, to check that there was no one around. The thrill of time travel was quickening his heart rate, his palms growing sweaty when he finally realised that it wasn't an illusion. He was really in 1891, with the Doctor, and he had got there in a faulty TARDIS.

The TARDIS was faulty. That wasn't where they were supposed to be, no, not at all. At some point in time, John is falling from that building, clutching the very note that Sherlock held in his pocket, over and over again. Arms windmilling just as Sherlock's had. He needed to get back to John, he needed to stop this all from happening.

'1891?' Sherlock asked the Doctor in disbelief. 'What happened to only going back a few days?'

The Doctor swivelled around, his eyes lighting up as he took in his surroundings with the glee of a young boy staring at a Christmas tree. 'Magnificent. I've never been here before. This should be interesting.'

'Interesting? What are you talking about?'

'The TARDIS will take a while to repair enough for us to get back to the present day. I say that we explore for a little while,' he shrugged, obviously coming to an ultimatum in his mind. 'Like I said, I've never been to this time before. Shall we?'

Sherlock looked around exasperatedly, searching for something in his mind that would make the Doctor remain inside the TARDIS, and attempt to hasten the repairing process, but the Doctor had already started down the street, arms clutched at his sides cautiously as he examined the houses. Sherlock had no reason not to follow him, unless he wanted to remain in a strange vessel in a strange time, which he didn't.

The streets were simply spectacular, gas lights creating flickering shadows that cast horrifying shadows across the buildings. The sky above was black and dotted with tiny stars, more than Sherlock had seen in his life. The moon was brighter than ever, lighting up the clouds surrounding it in a way that he had only ever seen in one of the many films he had watched in the past months.

Suddenly, the sound of a loose stone clacking along the cobbled floor came from behind them, and the Doctor gasped. Sherlock spun round, his coat flowing round behind him. A man stood in the shadows, a top hat perched on his head and a silver-topped cane in his gloved right hand. It took a moment, but Sherlock began to scan the stranger, from his receding hair line to the tiny scuff on the outside of his shoe that had been made by the loose stone. The cane was immaculate, and the silver glinted in the slight light. As the man stepped forwards, Sherlock saw the adams apple on his neck, moving up and down as he swallowed calmly. The Doctor stepped towards the man, hand outstretched in a friendly manner that could only be achieved by a man with such childlike tendencies.

'Hello, sir,' he smiled. 'Who might you be?'

'I could ask you the same question,' the man's voice was steely, and he looked the two men up and down, regarding their unusual clothing.

'Well, I asked first. Your name is...?'

Sherlock cleared his throat, and the Doctor shot him a glare. 'Not now, Sherlock, me and Unimportant are having a nice chat.'

'Sherlock?' the man stared at Sherlock curiously, regarding him with a lot more interest than before. 'Sherlock Holmes?'

Sherlock was taken aback, as anyone would. Anyone ordinary, he thought to himself with distaste. 'Yes, that's my name... How do you know me?'

'I don't think I know you, sir, but I know someone who is very much like you. If you would follow me?'

And with that, the man turned and receded into the shadows, much like his hairline. All Sherlock and the Doctor could do was look at each other and exchange a nod. then they followed him.
