Unexpected

My life has been filled with promises, promises that couldn't be kept.
Being abused caused me to stay mute..
But can he change that?

26. Promises.

Brent's POV

The cold air hit against my skin making me shudder, leaving goosebumps. I rubbed my arm slowly trying to create heat. Every now and then I'll stop and check where I am. I don't want to go home, at least not yet. It's been longer than I expected. I need to figure out what I need to do and now, before I do something I regret and can't take it back. I never intended it to be like this, I just want her to be in my arms, and kiss me. I kept hearing footsteps behind me, "Who's there?" I yelled at the air, it seemed empty. Suspicious, I walked through the lonesome park. I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was following me. I shook my head, "It's just probably the guilt." I said with a heavy sigh. The smell of rain hung high in the sky as little drops of rain settled onto my skin. How did I get caught up in this mess? Obviously it was because I had no choice, but what made me say yes completely? Was it the because I wanted revenge for when she left me or was it because I just wanted to be next to her once again? But she doesn't deserve this. The way her eyes fill up with fear gives my heart a little ache. I helped him find her, how stupid can I get? There was kicking of a rock that made a sound, "Who are you?" I asked not turning around. There was complete silence, no movement just the stillness of our breath. I turned and for a second saw who was following me. He acted quick when he balled his fist and swung at me. Unaware of who he was and what he wanted I stayed on the ground, cursing under my breath. "What do you want?" I asked firmly and more aggressive this time. Not wanting to wait anymore. But he didn't answer. The guy bent down and with his hands he grabbed my shirt, pulling me up. "Because of you." He said with clenched teeth, "Because of you we lost her. Where is she?" His eyes were cold, and I could tell that he couldn't wait any longer. "Let go of me." I said panting heavily. "Where... is Jai?" The air was tense, the drops of rain were cold, they felt like daggers digging into my skin. "Why do you want to know where my girlfriend is?" I asked, but before the last word came out of my mouth a painful feeling numbed my face. He had punched me again, he still didn't let go of my shirt. "She- Jai- She's not your girlfriend." He couldn't seem to find the right words. "Who are you?" I asked, he seemed to know Jailene. "Tell me what I want to know then i'll tell you." I pushed him off and fixed my shirt, "I'm not telling you jack shit." We stared at each other for a while. No one spoke or moved. It was completely silent. "You're hurting her." He said, breaking the silence. "You don't know that." I answered. "I know enough to know that whatever it was that happened between you two still hurts her." I flinched, "You're not here to discuss the matters between me and her, are you?" "No." His tone was harsh and fast. "You like her." I said quickly. "What?" "You like her, you like Jailene." He didn't answer but his face said everything. The anger that once flushed his face was replaced with confusion and fear. I shook my head and grinned at the ground, "Listen, I like her too. That means two things, i'm not going to tell you she is and two, i'm not going to let you have her." I couldn't stand being in the cold any longer, I nodded my head and started walking. "I know where she is." The voice was barely over a whisper. "Then why ask me?" "Niall." I turned to face him, "What?" He looked up and smirked, "My name. It's Niall."

Jailene's POV

As I out stretched my arms I didn't feel Brent. My eyes bolted open and I sat up. I looked around the dull room of faded colors and unwanted memories. I moved my legs to the side of the bed. I heard noises coming from far away. I got up, walked towards the door, opened it so I can see though it. My father was pacing around the living room floor. "You don't say? No. I'll teach him his lesson. No thank you for the update. That kid will never see the light of day again." I gulped as I could barely make out the words. His footsteps were angry, they made me flinch. He ran up the stairs and fumbled into his room. The next few actions came in a blur. He ran down the stairs and left. What is he planning to do? I got up and grabbed the worn out jacket that was under the bed, it was all worn out, but it was the closet thing to warmth in this cold room. The door slammed downstairs and slowly, but swiftly I slipped through the door and followed him. The air was cold and it felt like daggers were digging into my skin. I was silent as I isolated myself and walked quietly behind him, almost like a shadow, only I could be caught and a shadow can't. We must've walked a long way because my legs were killing me and this weather isn't helping. He came to a halt and I hugged the wall staring intensely. "Finally I found you." He mumbled. As he talked the air was visible. I stuck out my head and I froze. It couldn't be... How? Most importantly, why?
