1. Two Unexpected Requests

Amelia’s P.O.V:

I was woken to the sound of my phone indicating a notification.  I gotta start remembering to put my phone on silent during the night.  I leant over towards my bedside table and picked up my phone, while rubbing my eyes.  I pressed the centre button, making the screen light up.  I could hardly keep my eyes opened, but I managed to read the time, which said 1:00am.  I officially hate the person who-

Why do I have a friend request from Louis Tomlinson?!  I take that back!  He is my all-time celebrity crush!  I could have almost screamed and jumped out of my bed, but I didn’t.  Why would he be sending me a request?  Maybe Harry’s been talking to him about me, but even that gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.

My name is Amelia Rae Tesla; I’m 19 and am still living at home, but my parents don’t seem to mind.  We live about 10 minutes north of Coffs Harbour, which is a small city on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia.  I actually was born in a town called Grafton that is an hour north of Coffs, but my family and I moved here when I was three.

I’m in the middle of my second and final year of a Bachelor Of Business at Southern Cross University (Coffs Harbour campus), and have a part-time job at Pillow Talk, which is a department store franchise that sells bed sheets, towels, quilts and bedspreads.  It opened in Coffs about 2 months ago, so I’ve been working there since then.  I love it there, and I’ve made a heap of friends there too.  One of them, Tahlia, lives in the same street as me, as well as my all-time best friend, Maddy.  Before Pillow Talk, I worked at Big W but I didn’t really like it that much.  I’m earning more money at Pillow Talk for something I enjoy more, so it’s great.

When people meet me think I’m 100% Aussie, but heritage wise, I’m actually half Australian, half British.  This is because my mum’s whole family and she are from a country area called Holmes Chapel in Cheshire, England, where we visit up to 4 times a year.  She was born to my grandparents, Edna and Max, and was called Alison Gail.  Max isn’t alive anymore, but I miss him every day.  She has an older brother and sister (Paul and Robyn), and also has a twin, called Anne.  Anne married a guy called Des, and then became the parents to two of my cousins Jemma, who’s 21, and Harry, who’s 17.

I actually got to be the first person to hold Harry when he was born, after Aunty Anne and Des, of course.  I was three at the time, and mum, dad and I were staying in Holmes Chapel at the time that Anne went into labour.  I think they let me hold him first because I was so overwhelmed and excited about the whole experience.  From that moment onwards, I’ve absolutely loved babies and kids, and can’t wait to have my one day.

When my mum was 19, she went on a holiday to Australia, and met my dad in Sydney.  They started seeing each other, and my mum was falling deeply in love with my dad, so she moved there, leaving her life in Holmes Chapel behind.  They got married during March of 1991, and then had me in September.  My sister Lexi, who is now 16, was born during August of 1994, which was actually 6 months after Harry.  My brother Regan, now 14, was born in 1996 on the last day of September.

Two years later (1998), my youngest sister Lacey was born two days before Australia Day.  She arrived exactly on the day she was due, but had serious heart problems from the get go and therefore had to spend the first 3 years of her life in and out of hospital.  With a lot of taking care of, she eventually got to the health of what a normal girl should be.

One day a few days after my birthday, when she was 7 and I was 14, an event that we never expected would happen, happened.  We were getting ready to head to the beach, and all of a sudden, she collapsed to the ground.  She was still breathing, but not very much.  Mum went with her to the hospital in an ambulance, with dad, Lexi, Regan and I following close behind in our car.  As soon as she got there, she went into surgery, but her conditioned worsened.  She lasted a few hours after that, and then she was gone.

She was the most amazing little sister any girl could wish for, and though she was my youngest sibling, I was the closest to her.  She had such a similar personality to me, and in my opinion, was like a mini version of me.  I miss her dearly, and our family always go to see her at the cemetery on her birthday and the day she died.

When I was little, I remember watching my dad surf, and thinking how much I wanted to be like him.  I got my own surfboard for my 4th birthday, dad started to teach me, and I’ve been surfing ever since.  I’ve only been surfing half the amount of years he has, but he thinks I’m still better than him, which I personally don’t think is true.  Many of my friends and family have told me that I should go in surfing comps and things.  It is definitely my favourite sport by far, but I’d never think of taking it up as a career.

I have six blood related cousins in total, but I’m definitely the closest to Harry.  I’ve always seemed to have the most fun with him and get along with the best.  During July last year (2010), he went to audition for that years series of The British X Factor.  He made it through the audition, as I thought he would, and went on to the Bootcamp stage.

I still remember the moment Harry called me to say that he hadn’t made it through as a soloist, but had been put into a boyband with four other guys, named Niall, Liam, Zayn and Louis (Yes, this is the Louis I’ve been talking about).  I remember how happy I was for him when he told me and how I knew they were going to go far.  And boy was I right.

Since then, the five of them, now known as One Direction, went on to achieve more than they had ever dreamed of.  They ended up coming an overall third in The X Factor, and their mentor, the one and only Simon Cowell gave them a record deal with his own company, SyCo records.  They managed to build up a massive fan base in the UK, and are in a few months to release their first single worldwide.

I’m so proud of everything Harry’s done over the past year, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings him.  Although I haven’t had the chance to see him throughout this time because of how busy he’s been, we still call, text, Facebook and tweet each other very often.

One Direction don’t have much popularity in Australia yet (because they haven’t released anything and came through a British show), but they are very popular in amongst our friends and family for obvious reasons.  Often friends of mine and Lexi’s are expressing how jealous they are of us having spent so much time with Harry but Regan on the other hand doesn’t get much attention because obviously most of his friends are guys.  The few that are girls don’t even bother bugging him about Harry, because they know he gets annoyed by it.

Anyway, I got onto Facebook and accepted the request.  I was exploring his page for about 5 minutes, non-stop smiling, when I received a message.  I saw that it was from Louis, and I felt butterflies in my tummy as I read what it said:

“Hey Amelia.  I know we’ve never met or anything but from what Harry has told me you sound amazing, and I hope I can meet you sometime soon.  Here’s my number if you ever want to call me. I’d be happy to talk to you anytime.”

Wow.  I couldn’t believe this was happening.  Louis Tomlinson thought I was amazing?!  Louis Tomlinson hoped he could meet me?!  Louis Tomlinson gave me his number?!  Louis Tomlinson would be happy to talk to me?!  This was all on big dream, and I was going to wake up in the morning and none of this will have happened.  I messaged him back just for the fun of it anyway.

“No one could never be as amazing as you, and yes, I hope to meet you soon too :) x”

I woke up at 8am, and went into my contacts to check if what happened last night was a dream; even though I was already convinced it was anyway.  Just to make sure.  I searched ‘Louis’, and I then found ‘Louis <3’ in my contacts.  This could not be happening.  I went into Facebook just to make sure, and yes, I had ‘Louis Tomlinson’ in my friends list and had the messages that we sent to each other last night.  I wonder what he thought of the ‘x’ I added…

Taking my phone, I went out to show Lexi and rub it into her (even though her favourite member is Zayn), but she had just left to get on the bus and go to school.  Damn.  I ended up showing dad, as he was the only one still here.  He laughed, when he seen how excited I was about it.  There aren’t many people that don’t know about my crush on Louis.

I have a group of friends at uni that I always hang out with there, and eat lunch with on the days that I can.  Today is the only day in our two week cycle that the four of us are all available to eat together, so it was very convenient that Louis added me last night.

We all started uni last year, but are all finishing at different times.  Corin and I are finishing this year, Maddy and Victoria are next year (their doing Business and Hospitality).

As previously mentioned, Maddy has been my best friend all through school, and I can tell her absolutely anything.  We’ve also been friends with Victoria for a long time, because we all went to the same high school.  Corin went to a high school in Grafton (an hour north of where I live), and so we meet her here.  Out of Maddy, Victoria and I you’d say that I’m closest to her, because of us doing the same course.

It’s funny, because the four of us all have crushes on different members of One Direction.  Obviously, I crush on Louis, Maddy crushes on Liam, Corin on Niall, and last but not least, Victoria crushed on Zayn.  It’s weird because none of our favourites are Harry, even though he’s the favourite with the girls over in the UK.  I could NEVER crush on Harry, because obviously he’s my cousin, but the others don’t.  Maybe they just say they don’t because they think it would be weird them crushing on my cousin.  Who knows?

I arrived at uni at lunch time, and we all ate in the food court.  I guess I wasn’t very talkative because I was too busy studying Louis’ Facebook and Twitter.

Corin: Ami, why are you so quiet?

Victoria: You look very innocent with that big grin plastered across your face.

Me: Alright, well last night I had a dream that I was woken up by my phone going off, and it turned out that it was notification saying that Louis Tomlinson had sent me a friend request.  I accepted it, and then he sent me a message which included his number.

Maddy: If only it came to life.

Me: See, that’s the thing.  I woke up and found Louis’ phone number in my contacts and Louis in my friends list, as well as the message he had sent to me.

Corin: You’re kidding.

Me: I can’t believe it either.

Corin: Has Harry been talking to Louis about you?

Me: It appears so, because he said in the message that he thinks I sound amazing, and he hopes he can meet me soon.

Victoria: Wow, you’re so lucky!

Maddy: Have you called him yet?

Me: I would now, but I don’t want to wake him up.  I’ll call him tonight.

That’s exactly what I did.  That evening, I got home at 4:30pm, as my class finished at 4pm, and it takes half an hour and half to get home from the uni, as I live on one side of Coffs, and the uni is on the other.  The first thing I did when I arrived was brag to Ellenie, and then I went into my room shutting the door behind me.  I layed down on my bed and stared at the picture I had of Louis set as my wallpaper on my phone.  I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get the nerve to actually dial his number.

Louis’ P.O.V:

I woke up and went straight onto Facebook to, again, study Amelia’s page.  She looked gorgeous in the pictures that were on here, and it said that some of her likes where pranking people and making others laugh.  I guess you could say I was developing a slight crush on her.  According to Harry, she had a crush on me…

My thoughts were interrupted by phone beginning to ring.  I looked at the number and didn’t recognise it all.  I answered it anyway.

Me: Hello?

Amelia: Um, hey.  This is Amelia.  You know Harry’s-

Me: Yeah, of course I know you.  You’re Harry’s cousin that I’m absolutely dying to meet.

Amelia: Ah, yeah.  That’s me.

Me: How are you, love?

Amelia: Um, good!  I just got back from uni, and I’m just lying on my bed chilling at the moment.

Me: What time is it over there?

Amelia: About quarter to 5.

Me: Wow, you get home late.

Amelia: Well uni’s about half an hour away so yeah.

Me: Wouldn’t it get annoying driving up and back every day?

Amelia: Nah, I only drive up three days a week.

Me: Oh, right.

Amelia’s P.O.V:

I don’t know what I was so nervous about.  I felt so comfortable talking to him, like I was talking to a completely normal guy.  Well, I guess he was anyway, apart from that abnormal amazing accent of his.

Louis: So, Harry’s told me about the crush you have on me.

Stuff Styles.  How was I supposed to answer that?

Me: Um, what about it?

Louis: I was wondering, I guess, whether it was true or not.

Me: Yeah, it’s very real.  I mean, can you blame me?

Louis: Umm…

Me: Don’t answer that.

Louis: Okay then.

We ended up talking for about half an hour about anything and everything.

Louis: Listen, I’ve gotta go, but do you think we could maybe organise for you to come over and meet me soon, and see Harry again?

Me: Alright, well when are you in London?

Louis: Um, all next month.

Me: I guess I could come over sometime then.

Louis: Awesome, well we can discuss it more another time then, if you want.

Me: Sure, I’d love to.

We soon hung up and I walked out of my room to go and have a shower.  After I got out, dinner was ready, so I had that, and then spent the rest of the night in my room doing work for uni, as I couldn’t concentrate anywhere else.

I was so excited about the prospect of me possibly being in London next month with my favourite cousin who I haven’t seen for nearly a year, and my celebrity crush.  I was a weird thought that ultimately I had had two unexpected requests all in one day.  The first, Louis adding me on Facebook, and the second, him inviting me over to London.  It was odd knowing that Louis actually took time out of his day to talk to me.

Whatever happened, if I did meet Louis I’d have to play it totally cool.  After all, he was just a hopeful giving his dream a go just like Harry to begin with.
