53. Letter

"Hey, guys, I'm going to go get the mail." It's been a week since the boys left and Sarah and Cheradyn are  leaving tomorrow. I walk out to the mailbox. I open it and shuffle through. Catalogs, bills, and a letter  from... Oxford. I stuff the rest under my arm and walk as I open the letter. This is the short form. " Ms. Thorson, You been asked to show new students around due to your participation in classes, optimism,  friendliness, and perfect transcripts  We do hope you can accept this role. It will be put on your records for future reference." I open the door to Liam's flat.  "Brooke, what's in your hand?" Sarah asks, gesturing to the paper in my hand. "A letter from Oxford." I say, sitting down. I hand it to Sarah and she and Cheradyn read it. Cheradyn raises her eyebrow. "I've did it last year. I did it because it gave my professors' a better forethought about putting me on the Dean's list. I want to be the top of the list, so I will have a better resume." I say, shrugging. "But then you can't go to America." "I know." I say. "Well, you're gonna need to talk to him about it." He sigh. He's going to be upset. "You should call him." "I will." Just as I reach for my phone in my purse, it rings. I look at caller I.D. It's him. "Well, speak of the devil. Hello?" I say, picking the phone up. "Hey, baby. What's up?" He says. "I got a letter from Oxford." I say nervously.  "Okay, what's it about?" "Um, they've asked me to show around some new students, during when I'm supposed to come with you." "Oh. Tell me about it." I pretty much recite what I told Sarah and Cheradyn. "Oh, that's great!" "But there is one thing I haven't told you." "What's that?" "It's during when I'm supposed to be in America." "Oh, that's not so great." "But it's optional, so I can still come." I say. "No, you're not coming. I am not coming between you and your education." "But-" "No buts. You are going to stay and get to the top of that list." "Are you sure?" "Positive." "Good." I sigh a breath of relief. We talk and I eventually put it on speaker and the boys, Sarah, and Cheradyn join in. After 20 minutes, the boys have to go because they have to get ready for a concert. "So it's all good?" Cheradyn asks. "Yep." I say.
