Can Hate Stop Fate?

Stella, a girl who works two jobs while living life in Chicago is taken for a big surprise when Harry Styles suddenly becomes interested in her. She constantly tries to turn him away but he won't give up. The question remains, can hate stop fate?

23. Chapter 23

(Harry’s POV)

I watched as Stella walked over to me, looking for signs of any more abuse from James. She seemed fine, except for the fact that I could see she had been crying.

“I’ll drive the boys home Harry. Call me if you have any trouble with the paps or anything,” Paul said to me before heading towards the back door where the van was parked outside.

“Do you want me to get a taxi or do you want me to walk you home?” I asked her.

“I live 2 miles from here, it would be a long walk so we can just-“

I cut her off before she suggested the taxi. I would rather spend the next 45 minutes walking home with her rather than a 3 minute drive.

“Let’s walk! I have no plans tonight and it’ll be good to catch up anyways.”

I could see the corners of her lips curve up into a slight smile before she replied, “I was hoping you would say that.”

(Stella’s POV)

I know I had a boyfriend but I couldn’t help smiling when Harry said he would walk me home. We headed out the front door, and I started leading the way in the direction of my apartment. I glanced around thankful that no paparazzi had found out where the boys were eating tonight.

“So,” Harry started saying, “do you want to talk about what happened?”

“Not really, I’m not quite ready to talk about it. How about you tell me how everything is going with the band? Anything exciting going on?”

“Well we’re in Chicago for the next couple of weeks…” I saw Harry glance at me briefly to see how I took that news. I couldn’t help but smile that he would be here for more than a couple of days.

Harry smiled back before continuing, “and it’s actually a pretty relaxing schedule for us. We have some events coming up in December like I mentioned earlier, but other than that it’s almost like a mini-break for us! The lads are all excited to be spending some time in the city.”

“That’s great! Are you guys performing any shows?”

“Yeah! We’ve actually got a pretty big show coming up in 2 weeks so we’re massively excited for that. I could, uh, get you a couple tickets for you and your roommate if you guys wanted to attend?”

“Oh my gosh, really?! That would be great! I know Leah would totally love that and…” my voice trailed off when I realized I had just started to fangirl a little bit. I could feel myself blushing.

“Uh,” I couldn’t think of anything else to say after my little freakout. Harry just laughed and put his arm around me.

“I’ve missed you, Stella.”

“I’ve sorta, kinda, maaaaaybe…missed you too.” This time I didn’t even try to hide the grin on my face. Harry made me happy and there was no use pretending otherwise. Part of me hoped that we could continue to hang out as friends and another part of me wanted to give a relationship with Harry another chance. I needed to figure out what was going on with James first though before I made any decisions about Harry. I sighed to myself knowing I had some tough choices ahead of me.

The walk went quickly as Harry and I continued to catch up on what each other had been doing the past 8 months. The walk ended too soon as we stopped in front of the stairs that led to my apartment building.

“Does he, um, live with you?” Harry asked me nervously.

“No, he doesn’t.” I could see the relief in Harry’s shoulders as he relaxed.

“Thanks for walking me home,” I said as I started going up the steps. I walked up to the main door and opened it up before turning around and saying, ” and I better still get those concert tickets because I’ve been dying to meet One Direction for months…they have British accents after all!”

I heard Harry’s laugh as I closed the door behind me.

(Harry’s POV)

I watched as Stella closed the door behind her and turned back around to face the street. I started walking back in the direction we came as I pulled out my phone to call Paul.

“Louis? Why do you have Paul’s phone?”

“Oh you know, just a little prank I’ve decided to pull on him,” Louis said.

“I’m sure he’ll appreciate that”

“Doesn’t he always though?” We both laughed at that comment thinking back to the last prank we pulled on Paul and how he ended up not talking to us for a full day after it.

I started to tell Louis that I had better call for a taxi since Paul wasn’t going to be picking me up but I was interrupted by a guy stepping in front of me.

“You didn’t think I would just go home without checking on Stella, did ya?”

“Louis, get Paul,” I said as I looked up to see James staring back at me.
