Stella, a girl who works two jobs while living life in Chicago is taken for a big surprise when Harry Styles suddenly becomes interested in her. She constantly tries to turn him away but he won't give up. The question remains, can hate stop fate?

18. Chapter 18

(Stella’s POV)

My mind was racing after my phone call with Jeff. He had fired me because he felt that the fight Harry had caused would create negative press for his bar. Jeff said that if I hadn’t been “hooking up with that star” then the fight would have never happened. I sat down in the closest seat not knowing what to do or say. A good portion of my income came from this job because I got decent tips bartending. I had no idea how I was going to pay my rent this month without it.

I felt Harry put his hands on my shoulders before he asked, “Everything will be okay, you can get another job! I mean, who wouldn’t want to hire you?”

I don’t think Harry realized how difficult it was to get a job at a respectable bar in Chicago. I mumbled back “Yeah, maybe” in agreement to him because I didn’t want to stress him out by this. Plus there was no way I was going to tell him about my financial situation because I didn’t want him to offer to pay for anything. I was too proud to accept money as a donation.

Until I found another job, I needed to pick up some more hours working at Starbucks. I pulled out my phone and sent George a quick text asking if I could pick up some more hours for some extra money. George was a great guy and he knew I worked two jobs to pay for everything so I was hoping he would understand. He texted back saying that I could pick up the noon shift and I responded that I would be there.

“Harry, I’m gonna go pick up this extra shift today so I better go,” I said as I turned around to face him. I was trying my best to keep the tears in and not show him how badly I wanted to break down.

“Are you sure? I can lend you so-,” I cut him Harry off before he could finish the sentence. I knew what he was going to say and I wasn’t going to take his charity.

“No, I’m fine! George just asked me to pick up this shift since somebody called in sick!” I lied to him.

Harry nodded okay and then held my hand as we walked to the door.

“Call me after your shift, okay?” he asked me.

“Of course.” I gave him a kiss on the cheek, said bye to Louis and then headed down the hall to the elevator.

(Harry’s POV)

The door closed behind Stella and I turned around to face Louis.

“Well that was…dramatic,” Louis said to me.

“Yeah, but I feel pretty guilty. If I hadn’t punched that guy dancing with her none of this would have happened,” I said as I flopped down on the bed beside Louis.

“She’ll probably stop dating you because of this.”

“What! Do you think so?” I immediately sat up trying to think of how to get Stella not to end what we had.

“Calm down mate! I was just kidding!”

I took the pillow on the bed and threw it at him. Louis just laughed and then started talking about an idea he had for a prank on Niall.

(Stella’s POV)

I showed up to my shift and George was in the back room when I was dropping off my stuff.

“Hey Stella, is everything okay? You usually don’t have time to pick up extra shifts.”

“Yeah, unfortunately I had to quit my other job so I was hoping to pick up some extra hours around here.” I felt bad lying to him but I didn’t want him to ask why I got fired and then explain about the fight.

“Well, I can give you some more hours for the next couple of weeks but after that, you’re out of luck. I’m sorry Stella,” George said. I knew he was genuinely sorry for me but he had to be fair to the other employees and evenly divide the shifts. I understood that but I was still disappointed.

“Of course, no problem. Thank you though.” I put on my apron and then walked out to the front so I could start on orders.

I spent the next couple of hours trying to decide what to do and realized I needed to just dedicate a day to walking to different bars to try to find a job. What if I didn’t find a job though? My parents would lend me money for a little while but I knew that they wouldn’t be able to for long. I got a sinking feeling in my stomach as I thought about how I would need to give bars a lot of availability if they wanted to hire me and I didn’t know how Harry was going to fit into that busy schedule.

I pulled out my cellphone during a lag in customers and quickly texted Harry.

We need to talk. Can I come over around 8?
