Truly, Madly Deeply

'I hate you Harry Styles...'

2 years after finishing school and being tormented by Harry Styles, Ellie Laker finally gets accepted into a presigious performing arts academy in London. This was everything she had ever wanted, but she knows that it is probably too good to last...

24. Lies

Ellie's P.O.V

I stared out at the gardens that lay below our building, watching the sun setting in the sky. I had avoided everybody I knew this whole afternoon and what I had heard was slowly eating me from the inside out. I closed my eyes and sighed. I heard the click of the door as it opened.

'Hey!' Mikaela came shuffling through the door, her brown hair swinging wildly as she struggled to close the door, while keeping a hold of her bag.

I lifted my leg off the window seat and turned to face her. 'Hey.' I rearranged my features into what I hoped was a genuine smile.

'So, I was going to get here a lot earlier, but I bumped into Hallie and she made me clean her room, so that's why I was late. I'm sorry. Why'd you want to talk?'

I could feel the words on my tongue, waiting for me to let them go, but I swallowed them down, I couldn't tell her. I didn't even know if what I heard was real. They could just be meeting up to have coffee, or discuss something to do with school.

'Uh, just wanted to see you I guess? I haven't talked to you in a while so..'

She smiled, but it faltered slightly. 'Are you sure El? I mean your message seemed a little desperate, scared, I don't know.'

'Uh, yeah, haha, um it was nothing. So uh, how classes been?'

She shrugged. 'They're ok I guess. I'm really excited about the play though. You and Harry are so great together, I always had a thought that you two were going to get back together.'

Mikaela continued to talk, but I found myself getting drawn away.

'Ell? Ellie?' What's wrong?'

'You just zoned out. Something's up, isn't it?'

'I..Ok.. um well this morning..'

'Hey Mikaela?' Harry appeared at the entrance to the room, his white shirt hanging perfectly over his torso.

I opened my mouth, and then shut it again.

'Um, hi Harry, I'm just going..' She started to pack up her things and put her shoes back on.

'Wait, what? You only just got here?' I questioned.

'Yeah, but..' She nodded her head over to Harry and smiled. 'I'll leave you two alone.' And with that she was gone.

I faced Harry.

'Hey beautiful.'

My heart lurched with his words. How could he say that? Did he have a heart at all? He walked over to me and wrapped his long arms around my waist. He dipped his head down, surveying my eyes, before leaning in, but I pulled away.

He looked at me with hurt eyes. 'Did I do something wrong?'

'Where did you get to today?' I asked him, my head bent.

'What? Well... I've been to my classes, I think I went to the little coffee trailer--'

'No. Where did you go after our acting class?'

'Uh..' He seemed to falter. 'What do you mean? I was right behind you, walking I mean.'

I looked up at him. 'You know I trust you right? And I would never cheat on you, I told you that this morning. And I never would do anything to hurt you.'

He just nodded. 'Yeah I know. I would never hurt you either.'

My eyebrows furrowed together, and I wanted so badly to believe him, but the words I heard just seemed to amplify at that moment.

'Meet me in two days, at 12pm in my room. Ellie will be away at a checkup for her leg, I'll be alone.'

'Ok then. I'm just going to go out then. I'll see you soon I guess.'

I grabbed my phone and limped out of the room. I stared at my phone and looked at it. I shook my head and dialled a number. Pressing the phone to my ear, I heard the familiar ringing tone.

'Hello, London Medical Centre, how may I help you?'

I took a deep breath. 'Um, hi. It's Ellie Laker, it's about my appointment on my leg tomorrow. 12 I think?'

There was a silence on the other end. 'Oh, right yes, Ellie. What about your appointment?'

'I um, was just wondering if I could postpone my checkup?'

'If you have a valid reason.'

'I just..uh, need to check on a few things.'

'Um, sure, ok. Well how about next weekend, is that ok?'

I nodded to nobody in particular. 'Yeah sure. See you then.' And then I hung up.

I needed to know the truth.
