My fanfic from www.wattpad.com :)))

"Amber, nothing will be different between us." Louis said as we stood in line for his audition.

I smiled back hesitantly. "You're sure?" I asked him. "You won't forget about me when you're famous?"

"I could never forget about you. I promise." He said, flashing a grin at me.

Amber Michaels is just a normal girl. Her best friend, however, is NOT just a normal guy. He's Louis Tomlinson, from the infamous boyband, One Direction.

They have been best friends for years, and have gone through so much together. Through Louis' auditions for the X-Factor, to his recent break-up with longtime girlfriend, Eleanor, they talked every day. But, they had one problem:

The other four members of the band knew nothing about her. This makes it difficult for them to talk every day. Somehow, they manage.

One day, however, the boys discover their secret, and insist that Amber goes on vacation with them for the summer, and madness breaks loose.

5. Suitcases and Awkward Conversations

*Amber POV*

We were leaving in three days. I texted Jessi, to let her know I would be gone, and she replied with a quick, 'K'. I sighed.

Louis and I had gone to my flat to help me pack.

I went through all my drawers, and my closet, figuring out what to take.

"You have more hair products than Zayn!" Louis exclaimed, popping his head back in my room. He had been helping me pack up my bathroom stuff.

I laughed. "I'm a girl!" I defended myself.

He raised an eyebrow. "Sure about that?" He asked jokingly.

I walked over and smacked him lightly on the forehead. "Positive."

I had basically just thrown the contents of my room into three suitcases and a bag of bathroom stuff.

"You ready?" He asked. We weren't leaving for our first location for three days, but the boys had insistedI stayed with them at their flat until then, so we could get to know each other. Obviously, that wouldn't be a problem for Louis and I, but I was a little anxious to get to know the others, seeing as though we'd be spending the summer together.

I was really excited that they had invited me, but also a little nervous. I had no doubt that paparazzi would find us eventually, and they would want to know who I was if I was with the lads.

I nodded. "Yep." I grinned at him as he picked up two of the suitcases and the bag.

I laughed. "You know I can get the bag." I said, a little surprised he wasn't taking just one of the three suitcases.

"Duh." He replied. "But what kind of person would I be if I made you carry a heavy suitcase and a bag?" He grinned cheekily.

I rolled my eyes, lifting the suitcase. "Let's go." I said, starting for the door.

I stopped before getting there. "Ladies first." I told him, smiling politely.

He scowled as he walked through the door. We got in the lift, and he turned to me, still scowling. "I'm not a lady." He grumbled.

I lifted an eyebrow, mimicking what he'd said earlier. "Sure about that?"

He grinned at me. "Positive." He said, lightly whacking me on the forehead, as I had done before.

"Amber!" Niall exclaimed as Louis and I walked into their flat. He wrapped me in a bear hug, and I lauged.

"Niall!" I said back with the same enthusiasm.

He took the suitcase from me, Louis having grabbed two again, and started for a door.

I looked at Louis, and he made a face. "Well, uh... You see, we don't have any extra rooms, so, uh... Well, I figured you didn't want the couch, so, yeah.." He trailed off. He smiled sheepishly. "You're staying with me."

I laughed at his awkwardness. "Better you than-"

"HARRY!" Louis screamed, spotting his curly-haired friend.

"Yeah." I grinned. "That was kinda the end of my sentance." I said, laughing.

He laughed, too.

Harry scowled at me, and stomped off to the kitchen.

I raised an eyebrow. "What's his problem?" Louis asked.

Liam walked into the room. "He doesn't want to share his 'Loubear'." He explained, grinning apologetically at me.

I smiled. Louis' eyes grew wide, and he ran into the kitchen. A moment later, he and Harry returned, holding hands. "I could never forget my Hazzabear!" Louis exclaimed.

Harry grinned, showing off his cute dimples. What? Did I seriously just think that? Lou poked one, and Harry said seriously to me, "I will be sharing a room with my bear and you." He immediately started laughing.

"He's joking." Lou assured me.

I grinned at him. "I figured that out, but thanks, captain obvious."

He grinned back. "No prob, Bob!" He laughed.

"You still say that?" I asked him. I would have thought he'd stopped at some point between March 2011 and now.

"Of course!" He told me.

*Louis POV*

About an hour and a half later, all the boys and Amber and I sat in the living room.

"MmmmmmmmmLOU" Harry said. "Truth, or.... DARE?" We had been playing for almost an hour, and they hadn't failed to amuse me, yet.

"Truth." I said bravely.

Harry grinned wickedly. "Have you ever been in love?"

The face that should have popped into my head was Eleanor. I had thought I loved her. More than anything. But, honestly, I didn't. I never had. So, I was a bit surprised when Amber's face showed up in my thoughts.

But that didn't mean I loved her, I assured myself. Although, I didn't know what it DID mean...

"No," I answered slowly. "I don't think I have."

When everyone turned their attention to something else, I snuck a quick glance at Amber. Her cheeks were slightly flushed, like they always were when she was tired. But she wore a bright grin on her face, and her eyes were positively twinkling.

She was looking at Harry, who had stopped the game to tell a story. He was talking enthusiastically, his hands waving around like they did when he was really into something. I wasn't paying attention to what he said, though. I was watching the way he kept looking over at Amber and grinning like a maniac.

I didn't like it.

*Harry POV*

I finished telling my story, and looked at Louis. He had been pretty silent for most of the game.

"You alright, Lou?" I asked him.

"I'm fine." He said, not meeting my eyes. That was strange. Louis almost always looked at me when he talked to me, unless something was bothering him.

I couldn't help but feel guilty. Maybe he had noticed the way I'd been looking at Amber. We all knew he fancied her, but I couldn't help it. She was positively beautiful. The way her blonde hair framed her face perfectly. How her eyes lit up when she talked about something she liked. How huge her gorgeous smile was.

Oh, God. Was I beginning to fancy her, as well? I couldn't be. That would be bad. Horribly bad. Louis hadn't admitted to being in love with her yet, but it was painfully obvious (to everyone but he and Amber) that he was, no doubt about it.

"Well," I said, breaking the awkward silence. "I'm knackered. I'm gonna go to sleep."

"Me, too." Amber said, obviously uncomfortable. "That sounds like a good idea."

Louis stood up quickly. He still wouldn't look at me. Uh, oh.

He reached out a hand to Amber. She grabbed it, and he pulled her up.

He walked silently to his room, pulling her along with him.

"Night, guys." She called, looking back at us.

"Night!" Niall told her.

"G'night." Zayn said quietly.

"Goodnight." Liam called to them.

"Night, Boo." I called to Louis, hoping he would look at me.

He looked back, and grinned. "Night, Haz."

I smiled as he shut the door behind them, and dragged myself to my room.

*Amber POV*

I was really confused at the way Harry and Louis were acting toward each other. They were usually so close.

When Louis shut the door behind us and flung himself onto the bed, I sat beside him.

"What's up with you and Harry?" I asked him.

He looked away. "I don't know what you mean." He lied.

I pursed my lips and narrowed my eyes. "Liar. You suck at lying." I told him.

He cracked a smile. "Do we really have to have this conversation again?" He asked.

"If you don't tell me what's wrong, then yes." I told him, bringing the topic back to his detached behavior. "We will continually have this very same conversation, over and over again. It will endlessly repeat itself, and-"

"Okay." He chuckled, cutting me off. He sighed. "I just..." He trailed off.

I lay down beside him. "You know you can talk to me, right?"

He looked at me. "I just don't like the way Harry looks at you."

At the mention of the curly haired flirt, my cheeks reddened. So I wasn't the only one who had noticed him staring. He was really good looking, though, and I definitely could see myself ending up fancying him.

"Erm, how does he look at me?" I asked awkwardly.

"Like you are the greatest thing he's ever seen. Which," He said, grinning. "You are pretty great, it's just...."

"Aww, is my Loubear jealous?" I teased jokingly.

*Louis POV*

I stared at her. Was I jealous? Why would I be jealous? I just didn't like the way they looked at each other... Right?

"I mean," She continued, smirking at me. "It can't be every day your Hazza thinks someone else is great." She teased.

Oh. So that was what she meant. I sighed, trying to play it off.

"Well, I do love my Hazza." I grinned cheekily.

She rolled her eyes. "Goodnight, Lou." She said to me.

I smiled. "Night, Ber."

*Amber POV*

I still had no idea what Louis was so worked up over, but decided it wasn't worth losing precious sleep over.

I rolled over and closed my eyes.

The next morning, I woke to the sun streaming through the window, effectively blinding me. I glanced at the clock and stifled a groan. It was 7:42. I would never get back to sleep. I rolled over so that my face was buried in the pillow.

I heard a chuckle beside me. "Yeah, I really need to get some curtains." Louis said.

I glared at him. "You think?"

He glared back until I cracked a smile, then grinned brightly. He sat up, and I laughed.

"What?" He asked, shooting me a confused look.

I giggled again. "You still get bad bedhead, I see."

He grinned, and ran a hand through his disheveled mop of hair, which didn't help at all. "Yep." He sighed.

I realized he wasn't wearing a shirt.

"Lou!" I exclaimed. "I thought I had told you before, keep your shirt on when I sleep at your house!"

He grinned at me. "That was before."

"Before what?" I asked him, exasperated.

He smiled evilly. "Before I became sexy."

I hit him in the head with a pillow, rolling my eyes.

"It's on, now!" He yelled, grabbing the nearest pillow and knocking me in the head with it.

"Ow!" I laughed, jumping off the bed with the pillow. I ran around the room, wildly swinging the pillow behind me. I probably looked ridiculous.

I looked back, and the moment I did, I was tackled. Louis had me pinned to the floor by my wrists, grinning like a maniac. He swung the pillow at my face, and then threw it.

He held me on the floor, and my heart was pounding. I told myself that it was just because of the running, but I wasn't sure. His grin faded, and I stared into his deep blue eyes. He was really beautiful...

I shook the thought off. Louis was... Well, Louis. He was my best friend. I didn't feel anything for him. But, then, why was my heart hammering in my chest? His face flushed, and his eyes widened. We sat there for almost a minute, staring at each other, not saying anything.

He looked like he wanted to say something, then shook his head. He rolled off of me, and I rolled my wrists around, beyond confused.

What the hell had just happened?
