Jump In The Deep End

My fanfic from www.wattpad.com :)))

"Amber, nothing will be different between us." Louis said as we stood in line for his audition.

I smiled back hesitantly. "You're sure?" I asked him. "You won't forget about me when you're famous?"

"I could never forget about you. I promise." He said, flashing a grin at me.

Amber Michaels is just a normal girl. Her best friend, however, is NOT just a normal guy. He's Louis Tomlinson, from the infamous boyband, One Direction.

They have been best friends for years, and have gone through so much together. Through Louis' auditions for the X-Factor, to his recent break-up with longtime girlfriend, Eleanor, they talked every day. But, they had one problem:

The other four members of the band knew nothing about her. This makes it difficult for them to talk every day. Somehow, they manage.

One day, however, the boys discover their secret, and insist that Amber goes on vacation with them for the summer, and madness breaks loose.

6. Ocean Views and Pick-Up Lines

"Wow! Look at the view!" Liam exclaimed as we walked through the front door to the beach house in Jamaica. Niall was digging around in a duffle bag. He pulled out a granola bar and sat contentedly on the couch, where he happily munched away.

Liam, Zayn and Louis had run upstairs to figure out the room situation. Since the house had three bedrooms, there would be two people in each room.

I walked out to the large deck, which overlooked the beautiful, white sandy beach and turquoise ocean. Our house was pretty far away from, well, anywhere, so the fans (and paparazzi) wouldn't find us.

I heard the door behind me slide open, and a deep voice behind me said, "Pretty, isn't it?" I nodded as Harry stood beside me. "I've always wanted to go to Jamaica, and here I am." He chuckled.

"Yeah. I've been here before, but it's still breathtaking." I told him.

He looked at me. "You've been here before?"

"Yep." I told him. "Louis' family and mine came here once when I was ten."

He pursed his lips and looked back to the water. We were silent for a minute. Then, "Can I ask you something?"

"Sure." I said to him.

He glanced at me hesitantly. "Do you like Louis?"

I looked away, remembering what had happened a few days before. "No." At least, I don't think so... I added mentally.

Harry looked a little relieved. Why would he be relieved? I thought back to what Louis had told me a few days before.

He looks at you like you're the greatest thing ever. Was that true?

"Well," Harry said, hesitating again. "Do you like anyone right now?"

I smiled at him. "Not at the moment, no."

He smiled cheekily. "Maybe I can change that?" He raised an eyebrow suggestively.

He was flirting. He was definitely flirting. I smiled internally. It wouldn't be so bad to flirt back a little, would it?

I pretended to think about it. "Well..." I said slowly. "I don't know..." I smirked, and he narrowed his eyes.

"What's it gonna take to get you to make up your mind?" He asked and grinned again.

He smiled. "Do you like cheesy chat-up lines?" He asked me.

I laughed. "Only if they're really cheesy." I told him.

"Okay. But first, I have to tell you the actual reason I came out here."

I raised an eyebrow. "Which is?"

He looked at me with a serious face. "You see, I was so stunned by your beauty that I ran into the sliding glass door." He told me seriously. "So, I'm gonna need your number for insurance purposes."

I smiled, as he said, "But, do you believe in love at first sight, or should I keep walking by?"

I laughed. "They have to be original." I told him, still giggling.

"If you were words on a page, you'd be fine print." He told me. I was enjoying this.

"Alright. Wait!" He said.

"What?" I asked.

"Do you hear that?" He asked me. I raised an eyebrow. "The ocean wants you to join me for dinner tonight." He grinned, and I smiled back and rolled my eyes.

"Does it, now?" I asked, smirking.

He nodded. "It does. At seven." He added.

"Okay." I told him.

Harry's eyes widened in surprise, and a grin spread across his face. "Really?"

I smiled. "If it's what the ocean wants." I told him, and he laughed.

"The ocean most definitely wants it." He smiled.

"Okay, then." I told him. "But not as a date." He pouted. "Unless we have a really good time. Then we can call it a date." I added.

His eyes lit up. "Sounds perfect."

"You what?!" Louis asked me.

"I'm going to dinner with Harry tonight." I told him.

"Why?" He asked.

I shrugged. "Dunno. Could be fun." I said, grinning.

He looked furious. "He'll only use you for sex, you know."

"And you know I would never sleep with him, or any of the boys." I told him. "Why do you care so much? It isn't even a date."

"I-" He cut off, thinking. "I don't know. You're my best friend." He said, slightly calmer now. "I just don't want you to get hurt."

I smiled at him. "I'm a big girl, Lou." I told him, and he smiled back.

"I know." He patted my head. "I'm sorry I freaked out."

We were standing in our room. After some deliberation (or arguing, in Harry's case), it had been decided that I would room with Louis. Harry and Zayn would share a room, and so would Niall and Liam. Ours had the best view, because Louis is an awesome negotiator.

"It's a good thing I brought my library card." Harry said in my ear at exactly seven o'clock. "Because I am totally checking you out."

I smiled. "That was terrible." I told him, and he grinned at me. He was wearing khaki shorts, a white v-neck tee shirt, and a grey beanie. I was wearing blue jean shorts (that were short, but not too short), and a purple crop top over my black and white bikini, because he had told me to bring a swimsuit.

"As terrible as it was, it's also very true." He told me with a serious face, and I blushed.

"Thanks, Styles." I told him, recovering quickly.

He grinned. "No problem." He held out his hand. "Will you hold this for me while I go for a walk?" He smiled cheekily, and I grinned, taking his hand.

We walked down the small street, chatting the whole way, and into a little town. Harry put his aviators on, and stopped when we got to a little restaraunt. We went in and sat at a small table in one of the back corners. We ordered our food.

"Are you out of chat up lines, yet?" I asked him.

"Oh, definitely not. I could go all night." He winked.

"Damn," I said, laughing. "I was really hoping you wouldn't say something like that."

I felt his foot tap mine. Thinking it was a coincidence, I ignored it. When I felt his leg against mine under the small table, I looked at him. He was looking very interested with a menu.

I decided to have some fun. I looked down at my menu, and shook off one of my flip flops. I ran my foot slowly up and down his lower leg, and I felt his eyes on me. I wanted to laugh at his reaction, but I knew that would ruin it. I took my other flip flop off and wrapped feet around his right ankle. I dropped it almost immediately, and put my shoes back on, trying not to laugh.

After a few moments, I looked up, and Harry was staring at me. He blushed (yes, he ACTUALLY blushed), and looked away quickly. I stifled a giggle, and he looked at me again.

He held my gaze for a few seconds, and the waiter showed up with our food.

We finished our dinner, and we talked the whole time. Harry was actually a pretty cool guy, once you get past all the pick up lines.

We left the restaraunt, and Harry took my hand again. We walked down to the beach, and by then it was dark.

"Did it hurt?" Harry asked suddenly.

"What?" I asked, confused.

"Did it hurt when you fell out of heaven?" He asked.

I rolled my eyes. "That's the worst one yet." I told him, smiling.

He laughed. "Admit it. You like my dorky chat up lines!"

"Well, they are pretty entertaining." I told him, and he grinned.

"Seriously, though." He said in a serious tone. "Does anyone ever tell you how beautiful you are?" He looked at me, one side of his mouth turned up into a half smile. "And no. That was not a pick up."

I looked down, blushing furiously. Thank god he couldn't see it in the dark.

"Whoa. You'd better direct that beauty somewhere else, or you'll set the ground on fire." He told me, and I looked at him, a smirk stretching across my face.

"That's better." He said, also smirking.

I looked up, spotting the beach house. Harry saw it, too, and stopped walking. I stopped, too. He stepped closer to me. "Now, are you going to kiss me, or do I have to lie to my diary?" He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. My heart beat sped up, and I looked at him.

I'm not going to deny that I really wanted to kiss him. Really, really wanted to. But I stopped, thinking about what Louis had said.

He's only going to use you for sex.

Harry didn't seem like that kind of guy, but I guess Lou knows him better than I do.

"Sorry, I don't kiss on the first date." I told him, smiling lightly.

He grinned at me. "So it is a date, then?"

"Well, I had a good time, so, yeah. It's a date."

He leaned even closer. "Are you sure you don't want to kiss me?"

I smirked and ran toward the house. A few seconds later, I felt him tackle me. I landed on my back, and he landed on top of me.

"You can't just end a date like that!" Harry said, laughing. I could tell a girl had never run away from him before, and that he didn't know what to make of it.

"Can't I?" I asked, still smirking.

He looked into my eyes. "No." He told me.

At that moment, I wasn't thinking about what Louis had said. I was thinking about what I wanted, and what I wanted was to kiss him. So I did.

He seemed a little shocked at first, but quickly kissed me back. We lay like that, kissing, for a few moments, and I put my arms around his neck. He ran his tongue along my bottom lip, and I, being the tease I am, ignored it.

He groaned, and started nibbling at my bottom lip. Eventually, I gave in and parted my lips a bit. He slid his tongue into my mouth, and slowly explored every inch of my mouth. I sighed into him, and he kissed back slightly harder. I pulled his beanie off and tangled my hands in his hair, and pulled him even closer to me.

He was a really good kisser. He straddled my hips and placed his hands on either side of my head, his lips never leaving mine. He deepened the kiss even more, and we kissed more intensely. We rolled over so that we were lying on our sides, still kissing. He pulled back, and we were both gasping for breath.

"Wow." He said, breathing heavily.

"Yeah." I said as I looked into his deep, beautiful green eyes.

We lie there for a minute, not saying anything.

"We should probably get back soon." I said, not wanting to. "The others will start to wonder where we are."

He groaned. "Do you know how many awkward and embarassing questions they're going to ask?"

I smiled. "You forget, Louis is my best friend. I know all about the questions."

He smiled. "I guess you do." He stood up, and offered me a hand. I took it, and he pulled me up. We walked back to the house after fixing our hair and brushing the sand off of ourselves.

*Louis POV*

Amber and Harry walked through the door at around eleven.

"Did you have a good time?" Liam asked them. The lads and I were in the living room, watching some movie that I hadn't been paying attention to.

I looked closer at both of them, and, as they were both my best friends, I could tell something was different. I looked at her small hand in his big one, and I was not happy. My eyes travelled up to their faces, and they were both slightly flushed. I noticed that Amber's lips were a bit swollen, and Harry's were, too.

Had they been kissing? Why would it bother me if they had? I mean, I wanted them to be happy, but... I wanted to be happy, too, and this was making me the opposite. I shouldn't feel upset about this, so why did I want to rip Harry's head off?

"Yeah." Harry said simply, and he smiled slightly. "It was nice."

Amber walked into the kitchen, and Harry followed, almost subconsciously.

"Calm down, Lou." Zayn told me.

"I am calm." I lied.

Niall frowned. "No, you aren't."

I sighed. "Really, I'm fine."

"Then why do you look like you want to kill someone?" Liam asked.

"I don't know." I answered, even though I had an idea.

The boys all shared a look, and then looked at me. "You fancy her, right?" Zayn asked.

"No!" I protested. (A/N: :D)

"You know, you suck at lying, Louis." Liam told me.

"I know I do." I gave up, sighing again.

"If you fancy her, you should tell her how you feel." Zayn said.

"Well, you should have just told her before she got all cozy with Harry, but-" Niall was cut off.

"Niall!" Liam scolded.

"Can we just not talk about this?" I asked them, hoping they would agree.

"No." They all said.

I closed my eyes and leaned my head back onto the back of the chair.

"How long have you felt like this about her?" Zayn asked me.

"Probably since I was, like, 13." I told them. "Maybe before that."

Their jaws dropped. "You just like her? And you have for seven years?" Niall asked, shocked.

I sighed. "I don't know exactly how I feel, Nialler."

Zayn studied me for a moment. "Do you love her?" He asked.

My eyes widened. "No," I started. "I just... um..." I sighed again. "I don't know."

He nodded, and pressed play on the movie.

*Harry POV*

"You know," I told Amber. "I think something's wrong with my cell phone."

"Really?" She asked.

"Yep." I said. "It still doesn't have your number in it."

She laughed her amazing laugh, and gave me her number.

I knew I fancied her, but I felt guilty. Louis had dibs. But, he had had over eleven years to make a move, and he hadn't. So why shouldn't I?

"I think," She started. "That you have way too much free time."

I looked down. "Sadly, yes." I looked up at her, grinning. "Wanna change that?"

She laughed. "That's what I'm talking about! You obviously spend all your time on the internet looking up bad chat up lines."

I pretended to look hurt. "That stings. It really does."

She smacked me lightly on the arm, grinning.

"Ouch!" I pointed a finger at her. "You've been a naughty girl. Go to my room!" I said, pointing up the stairs.

She rolled her eyes. "Nice try, Styles."

"Was worth a shot." I grinned cheekily.
