Jump In The Deep End

My fanfic from www.wattpad.com :)))

"Amber, nothing will be different between us." Louis said as we stood in line for his audition.

I smiled back hesitantly. "You're sure?" I asked him. "You won't forget about me when you're famous?"

"I could never forget about you. I promise." He said, flashing a grin at me.

Amber Michaels is just a normal girl. Her best friend, however, is NOT just a normal guy. He's Louis Tomlinson, from the infamous boyband, One Direction.

They have been best friends for years, and have gone through so much together. Through Louis' auditions for the X-Factor, to his recent break-up with longtime girlfriend, Eleanor, they talked every day. But, they had one problem:

The other four members of the band knew nothing about her. This makes it difficult for them to talk every day. Somehow, they manage.

One day, however, the boys discover their secret, and insist that Amber goes on vacation with them for the summer, and madness breaks loose.

3. Horror Movies and Mixed Feelings

"This has got to be the worst scary movie I've ever seen." Louis said, as we laughed at one of the characters' facial expressions. We always did this when we watched scary movies. We overanalyzed everything, and found everything absolutely hilarious.

"I thought this was supposed to be terrifying!" I said.

"Well, they failed at that." He said.

We were lying on the bed I had made out of blankets, and my head was on his stomach.

He had his phone in his pocket, and it rang then, blaring, "Heart Skips A Beat" by Olly Murs. Louis grinned and pulled it out of his pocket. I hit pause on the movie, and he answered his phone.

"Hi!" He listened for a moment, and said, "I know. I'm fine, though." His eyes got wide. "You're where?! I thought you weren't flying in until seven there!" He sighed. "Yes, Liam. I know that."

I heard the voice on the other line say, "WHERE ARE YOU?"

"Harry had the key to my flat, so I called a friend. I'm at her house now." His eyes darkened. "No," He said bitterly. "It isn't Eleanor. D'you think I'm an idiot?" He listened. "I'm fine!" He snapped. "No! You don't need to come! I'll be home in a few days."

I heard a few words on the other line. "...need...more...irresponsible...take...if...back...track....phone.."

"No!" Louis said, his eyes wide. "You can't!" He listened. "You don't trust me? Wow, Liam. Seriously. I'm not five, I'm twenty one, goddamnit! I can make my own decisions!"

He sighed. "Hi, Harry." Harry said something, and Louis replied. "No. I'm not coming home for a few days." He listened for a minute. "Harry, I'm fine. I'll call you. Okay, Hazzabear?" He grinned. "Love you, too!"

He sighed, and said, "Apperantly, Liam doesn't trust me, and they got home early. They want me to go back to mine and Harry's flat, but I told them I can't. Then Harry got on, and showed me once again why he's my favorite of the guys." He grinned. "They're all stupid."

I laughed.

"But, Liam threatened to track my phone and come find me if I wasn't back by morning." He said. "Sooooo, yeah."

I stared at him. "Liam is so overprotective of you." I said with a laugh.

He smiled. "Yeah, we don't call him Daddy Direction for nothing." He sat up, causing me to go rolling off of his stomach.

"Lou!" I yelled.

He laughed as he got up, and ran away.

"Come back here!" I yelled at him as I chased him down the hallway.

He had disappeared, so I checked the first door, which was a closet. Two hands reached out of the dark and pulled me in.

"Louis!" I giggled as he tickled my stomach.

"Surrender!" He commanded.

"No, I.." I gasped out. "Okay! I-" I tried to breathe. "I surrender!"

He spun me around to face him. I could just barely make out his features in the extremely dim light.

I squirmed a little as he stood staring at me, blocking my only exit. "What?" I asked him.

He opened his mouth to say something, then shut it. "Amber, I..."

"You what?" I asked quietly.

He exhaled, then shook his head. "Nevermind." He grinned pulling me out of the tiny closet.

*Louis POV*

Amber poked me in the ribs as she walked back to the living room.

I followed, not completely aware of what I was doing.

We lie back down, and play the movie.

I glanced at her. She had gotten a little taller since I had seen her last, and her eyes, like always, seemed brighter. She was, as she always is, beautiful. But there was something different about her. Like, really different. But I couldn't seem to find exactly what it was.

I turned my eyes back to the movie, but my thoughts were still on her.

What the hell was running through my mind in the closet a few minutes before? I hadn't known what to say to her. I never felt that way with her. At least, I hadn't before now.

What was happening? Was I beginning to fancy her? No, that couldn't have been it. Could it? I snuck another look at her. Could it possibly be that I fancied my best friend? I hoped not. It could make things awkward, and that was the last thing I wanted.

After Eleanor had cheated and we had broken up, I swore to myself that I was done dating for a while. I couldn't go back on that, simply because I'm a very stubborn person about these types of things.

I felt a pressure on my shoulder, and looked to see Amber sleeping, with her head resting on my shoulder. I turned the movie off using the remote and snuggled closer, like I always did.

I breathed in her scent. I had missed her loads. I hadn't seen her in almost two years, and it was nice to see that things were (almost) the same as before.

I knew something was different, but couldn't put my finger on exactly what it was. Amber was nothing more than a friend, anyway. She never had been anything more, and never would be. Would she?

I pushed the thought out of my head. Of course, not.

I woke up to a loud knocking on the door. Amber groaned and rolled off the floor to answer it. I turned back over and attempted to fall back asleep.

I heard the door open. "Hi, ar-"

"LOUIS!" I heard Harry's voice yell.

My eyes popped open wide. No... They did NOT...

I turned around, and saw Harry standing directly above me.

I looked, and Liam was also there.

I stood up.

"What the hell?" I asked them. "I didn't think you would ACTUALLY track my phone! I thought it was an empty threat!"

Liam glared at me. "You know I don't make empty threats, Lou."

"Boobear," Harry pouted. "Why didn't you come back to the flat, last...." He trailed off as he spotted Amber, standing wide-eyed by the door, probably freaking out that the paparazzi may have followed them.

"Well," Harry said, walking over to her. "I see why he didn't come back." He flipped his curls and I rolled my eyes. "Hello. I'm Harry."

"And I'm Liam," Liam said, finally remembering his manners. "Sorry for barging in here unannounced." He said, looking a little embarassed.

She smiled at him. "It's okay." She told him.

"What's your name?" Harry asked her, obviously flirting.

I walked over and whacked him on the back of the head. "Easy there, curly." I joked.

He glared at me playfully, then said, "So, this is the friend?"

"Yes." I looked at him, mentally warning him not to get any ideas.

Why was I being so protective of Amber? She's a big girl, who can handle herself. So why was I ready to throw Harry out a window for flirting with her? It must have been because she was like my little sister. That had to have been it.

"Do you have a name?" Harry looked at her jokingly.

She smiled politely at him. "I'm Amber." She told him, although I could tell she didn't want to tell him.

"Okay, and now that you know where I am," I told Liam and Harry. "You can leave."

Harry ducked under my arm and pouted. "Loubear, do you not want us to know Amber?"

I sighed. "It isn't that. It's just... Complicated."

Amber spoke up. "You two can stay for a bit, if you'd like."

"Yeah!" Harry said, and flung himself onto the couch. I chuckled.

Liam looked over at her. "We don't mean to impose. Really, if you want us to leave, we will."

She smiled at him. "Nah, you can stay."

She walked over to me.

"You sure it's okay?" I whispered to her.

She grinned at me. "Yeah."

I grinned back at her.

"So, Boo, how long have you two known each other?" Harry said casually to me.

I looked over at Amber, not sure how much to tell.

She exhaled, then nodded.

"We've known each other for eleven years." I smiled sheepishly. "She's my best friend. I talk to her everyday, and haven't seen her since March, 2011." I told them.

I glanced over at Amber and she grinned. I grinned back.

I looked over at Harry and Liam, who had similar expressions of shock on their faces.

"And you didn't tell us this, because.....?" Harry asked.

Amber stepped in. "Because, as you both know, being friends with a celebrity causes the paps to follow you around, and I don't want that. So," She said. "We kind of keep our distance."

"But how come we never knew?" Liam asked.

"Because she didn't want me to tell anyone about her, so I didn't." I said simply.

There was an awkward silence. Harry broke it, saying, "Jesus, Louis. And I thought I knew everything about you." He grinned at me.

"You knew everything that didn't have to do with her." I grinned back.

"Wait," Liam said. "So, when you and... Well, when you became single," I chuckled at his choice of words. "Is she who you were on the phone with that night?"

I look over at Amber. "Yeah. She's literally been there for everything." I smiled at her and she smiled back.

'Pause' by Pitbull started playing on Harry's phone, and he had a mini one-man dance party before answering.

" 'Lo." He said.

A few minutes later, he finished the call and hung up.

"It was Zayn." He informed us. "He wanted to know when we would be back."

I looked at Amber. "Do you want to come meet Zayn and Niall?" I asked her. "If you don't, that's fine, too. I just-"

She cut me off. "Yeah. I'll go." She smiled. "On one condition."

"And that would be?"

She grinned. "Can I borrow your wig?"
