Child forever

Sometimes you wish you wouldn't grow up. Wish you would be able to do as your four year old cousin. But there's a distance between childhood and growing up - in mind. It's this distance I've tried to picture by this poem.

1. Child forever

It was, as a child I, waved goodbye

Remembering your smile in the distance

I was only a child – didn't quite understand

That the distance you walked

Was forming between us

As a child I said goodbye

And as the childhood disapeared

So did I

I tried walking after you

Tried growing up

I was only a child - couldn't focus

Couldn't focus on tears from a distant boy, becoming a man, I once waved goodbye to

I wouldn't see the tears of the childhoods end

Couldn't see the fears – I was only a child at mind

And the more I grew up – the less I understood

My soul disappearing – just like you

I felt like I could see you as a faint figure in the distance

Just a figure of a man growing out of childhood

I was slowly vanishing

Dissapearing

I was slowly finishing

Finishing life

Reaching the point where the distance became too much

The distance between a child forever and a grown man

We were walking different ways – no one would budge

And I saw your the fog blend with your tan

You were gone

It was, as a child I, waved goodbye

Remembering your smile in the distance

I was only a child – didn't quite understand

That the distance you walked

Was forming between us
